To ask for your thoughts on having more covid vaccinatinns

I have had covid twice now and had 2 moderna vax in the first round. I was super ill after my 2nd vaccination and didn’t have a booster as a result. I had covid in March 2020 and was really rough & then again in June 22 and was rough but only for a few days.

I don’t really want any more jabs to be honest- I feel like having had it twice plus being double vaxxed is enough but not sure and I wondered what the general view out there now was?

Definitely will have the vaccine . I got covid in July and was really sick even after having three vaccines. I dread to think what if had I not been vaccinated.

I am pushing 70 and was lucky enough to be among the first to have the polio vaccine back in the 50s and am very pro vaccines. They have changed the world. When you get to 65 you have a jab against pneumonia plus the flu jab every year. Covid, like flu, mutates and needs an updated vaccine, so I can see that the flu and Covid vaccines will be combined and given in one shot on the future. I have no qualms about having an annual jab and will do so as long as needed.

PerfectlyPreservedQuagaarWarrior · 24/08/2022 17:42

I don't mind having another one.

Bickles · 24/08/2022 17:43

Bring it on! But want the one adapted for Omicron.

TattiePants · 24/08/2022 17:44

This thread has just reminded me that DS is now eligible for his 3rd vaccination so that’s booked for this weekend.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 24/08/2022 17:44

I’ll have whatever is offered - again. Had Covid just after last Christmas, very mildly, which was very likely down to 3 jabs by then.

Mountainatmygates · 24/08/2022 16:49

@BIWI did you read my post about the side effects I experienced?

Have you been left with long-term illness after the side effects, or have they all gone now? Were you hospitalised?

If the answer to both is no, I don’t know why you’d hesitate to have a booster. You are just reaching the age where getting covid poses greater risks to you - there’s a reason why over 50s are being offered a jab this autumn.

But you won’t be, because you’re 49. So the whole question is moot and you’re getting agitated over nothing.

Vincethepince · 24/08/2022 17:46

I haven't had any jabs. Had covid once, lost my sense of smell and that was it. Theres increasing evidence to show the jabs cause a range of health problems-not worth the risk for the sake of a mild cold. My parents only had 1 vaccine, it made them so I'll they decided against any more

Mountainatmygates · 24/08/2022 17:47

@SimonAndGarthsUncle 🙄

Those of us who had really serious side effects from the vaccines are allowed to question having yet another one.

My brother works in vaccine development. When the first vaccines came out, obviously he was very pro us all having them. But as time goes on and most people have been vaccinated at least twice and the different variants are evolving, his view now is that it’s probably not a great thing for us to be having novel booster vaccines every six months or so. Just because there haven’t been any longitudinal studies and there’s not enough data to know for sure there won’t be any unforeseen effects later down the line.

He is the biggest advocate for vaccines usually, so when he said he wasn’t having any more boosters I was surprised. But I haven’t had any more since either.

Same. I’m just over 50 and I was in bed for nearly two weeks with it. I’m very much looking forward to my booster before the winter.

MajorCarolDanvers · 24/08/2022 17:50

Vaccinations don't stop you getting Covid - but they do reduce your likelihood of severe illness or death. So I will keep getting jabs as long as the keep offering.

I think folk who don't get vaccinated are daft or ignorant.

Hbh17 · 24/08/2022 17:51

Vaccinations have turned Covid into a mild & minor illness, so I'll have as many boosters as I'm offered.

Mountainatmygates · 24/08/2022 17:52

@BobMortimersPocketMeat well I now get ocular migraines which I never had before. I don’t know. And that’s the problem too- no one allows you to question if the health issues you have are linked to the vaccines as you are then labelled an anti vaxx loon which in my case isn’t true!

DeedIDo · 24/08/2022 17:52

I had Covid in March 2020, under the weather for a week. I was CEV at the time and on massive doses of steroids but was fully recovered in ten days. Had two Pfizer vaxx early in 2021. Definitely reacted to the first. DH had Astra Zeneca and was quite poorly after both. Bad enough to be in bed.

GP screwed up my third primary dose last autumn, so I missed that and consequently the fourth. I had COVID again in March 2022 anyway and that time was only inconvenienced for one day and negative after four.

I have two friends who have had major health issues this year, one had a blood clot leading to a heart attack and the other has developed A Fib. Both have been told by their cardiologists that is likely that the vaxx is to blame and they shouldn't have any more.

I am no longer CEV and content to take my chance.

CoffeeWithCheese · 24/08/2022 17:55

I'm not having any more - I'm still having lots of neurological issues from the initial two AZ jabs - really deep joint pain, burning hands and feet, itching so bad I'll scratch to the point of blistering plus I get muscle weakness where it's like my legs have buggered off paying attention to my brain at points too. It's made my life pretty grim at times and I'm not prepared to risk making it any worse by having more jabs since there's obviously a disagreement between my body and it.

Had Covid a couple of times and was OK - and occ health are fine with my reasoning. Someone's got to get the side effects - this time around it was me, and I just want my wish not to have any more jabs respected and to be able to do so without insults being thrown.

I know this isn't directed at me but as my circumstances are similar I'll answer anyway!

No long term effects for me (now, I think anyway its only been in the last 2 weeks I've felt more normalish) but the effects on my mental health of being referred for numerous tests, 2 being under the 2ww that didn't happen for months due to waiting lists, is just not worth it.

catch 22 as I had covid very bad, thought I was going to die for a few days, didn't feel better for weeks and now have relatively mild long covid. But I know I couldn't go through another 6m of thinking I've got something serious and it affecting me mentally and that feels like a certainty whereas getting covid again doesn't given the number of cases I've been around recently

This - I've not even gone to the GP with what I've been experiencing (I did report it via yellow cards) because a) I can't get a fucking appointment and b) it's like this unspeakable sin if you dare mention having had any problems with the vaccine and you just get yelled down and insulted.

Mojoj · 24/08/2022 17:58

Nope.

pointythings · 24/08/2022 17:59

I'll have the booster, especially as it's likely to be the bivalent one that has a new component which works better against Omicron BA 4 and 5.

I've just had covid for the first time (triple vaxxed) and despite being older and overweight it was very mild. Vaccines work.

Aren't you? Your language towards other people who have a different opinion to you suggests otherwise.

Topseyt123 · 24/08/2022 18:04

I am triple vaccinated and had Covid back in April. Mildly, but got a secondary chest infection which lingered for about three weeks and needed both antibiotics and antifungal tablets to clear it.

I've just been offered my fourth booster (with the flu vaccine too) and have booked it for mid October, when most of the available slots were.

Aishah231 · 24/08/2022 18:06

Nope - I won't get a vaccine OP. I haven't had any 'vaccines' for COVID and am the only person in my office not to have had it. Seems like a waste of money and resources to me unless you are very vulnerable - even then I wouldn't have one of the MRNA 'vaccines'.

I assumed that would be the reaction I got but quite the opposite tbh! Gynae consultant actually asked if I'd had 'the' vaccine in the recent months and GP suggested that some of the mental issues/worry could be exacerbated by the vaccine. Both asked me to make sure I yellow carded. Its worth a try you might get an understanding gp!
