To ask for your thoughts on having more covid vaccinatinns

I have had covid twice now and had 2 moderna vax in the first round. I was super ill after my 2nd vaccination and didn’t have a booster as a result. I had covid in March 2020 and was really rough & then again in June 22 and was rough but only for a few days.

I don’t really want any more jabs to be honest- I feel like having had it twice plus being double vaxxed is enough but not sure and I wondered what the general view out there now was?

I work for the nhs and will be getting my booster. I'm CEV and have had covid. Will also be getting my flu jab

Parky04 · 24/08/2022 16:51

I've had my booster, but won't be having anymore.

TeenDivided · 24/08/2022 16:51

It isn't unreasonable to question when you had bad side effects (ask for a different make next time?) But is imo unreasonable to question overall effectiveness or to try to put other people off having it.
People also need to remember that the plural of anecdote is not data.

Theeyeballsinthesky · 24/08/2022 16:54

I’ll be getting mine. Had 24 hours of feeling crap after the 2nd jab (Pfizer) but I’d rather that than covid!

Winederlust · 24/08/2022 16:54

Recently had covid and it wasn't fun, but neither is having any bug that's doing the rounds. I'd managed to avoid up 'til then, or at least was asymptomatic if I did have it.
If I was in a vulnerable category I'd have a booster when offered, but I'm not, so I probably won't.

Mountainatmygates · 24/08/2022 16:55

@TeenDivided like most people I felt it was my public health duty to have the vaccinations. I am pro - vaxx generally but my own health experiences have led me to question it a bit - I think it’s ok to do that when your health has been adversely impacted by something. I am not trying to put others off- I just wondered what the general view was at the moment.

I will probably not get another booster until maybe next year, unless a worse strain emerges.

I had covid twice before vaccines and it wasn’t a big deal for me but I did have fatigue and wouldn’t like to need a few days off work every year.

Had covid again a few months ago with next to no symptoms, and had blood antibody test last month (ons) and the levels were ‘high’ so I would say all these factors considered, I’m low risk for now.

Iadorerain · 24/08/2022 16:57

My DC is involved in vaccine research, I’m definitely getting the vaccine.

Bearsan · 24/08/2022 16:57

I'm reluctant but if you need one to travel abroad I will.
I know several people who are vulnerable who didn't have any vaccines for medical reasons. They all had COVID and all of them were a lot less Ill than people who had.
For that reason and the fact that I was really bad after the booster I'm not keen.

mountainsunsets · 24/08/2022 16:58

I'm quite happy to have regular boosters. I don't see why it's any different to having annual flu jabs? Your immunity won't last forever.

TheMousePipes · 24/08/2022 16:58

I’ve had my 5th today, dd has had her 3rd as I have recently come off an 11 year (!) course of immunosuppressants. As Covid can be a catalyst to take me back out of remission I’m not taking any chances.

Megifer · 24/08/2022 16:59

No, not for me. since my booster I've had a number of health issues/scares. the symptoms were very unpleasant and mimicked very serious issues and its been a frightening 5-6 months getting the all clear. One consultant did say my symptoms had been directly linked to the vaccine but even then it didn't put me off until other things started happening.

I wouldn't have hesitated if I'd just had the one scare but its a bit too much for me to go through that again mentally. And I had Covid very bad too!

Mountainatmygates · 24/08/2022 16:59

@mountainsunsets i’ve never had a flu jab as I have only had flu once in my life and I am 49

I have a friend who is vaccine injured.

5 people I know directly died of covid, before vaccines. But not a single person I know has died from covid since the vaccines were bought in. I also know a number with serious long covid, and they all caught covid prior to vaccination.

I've had 4 doses. I've not had covid. I'll keep being vaccinated as recommended and hope I stay covid free. I am terrified of long covid!

TattiePants · 24/08/2022 17:02

I’ve had 3 so far and to my knowledge, haven’t had Covid. I’ll take whatever’s on offer.

Mountainatmygates · 24/08/2022 17:03

@Megifer yea, I had some scary side effects post vaccine too. My periods went really strange- stopped for 3 months & the doc tried to say it was perimenopause but it wasn’t - i also had the heaviest period I ever had just after the vaxx too- it was all really scary.

I mean, fair enough.

There's nothing that says COVID vaccines will be mandatory, so if you don't want any more boosters, don't have any.

But lots of countries may make regular vaccines a requirement of entry, like they already do for other vaccines.

Yes I had stranger periods too. But then I also got that with covid.

azimuth299 · 24/08/2022 17:05

I won't have any more. The vaccines made me so poorly that at the worst point I couldn't walk and had to crawl through my house to get water. They also didn't stop me from getting Covid a few months later. Covid was rough but nothing like how bad the vaccines were. I'll definitely take the risk of getting Covid over the certainty of being ill with the vaccines.

entropynow · 24/08/2022 17:06

It's a virus. It mutates. If we need more vaccinations we need them.
Honestly can't see the problem unless you know you're allergic

Mountainatmygates · 24/08/2022 17:06

@mountainsunsets i guess ultimately I just feel a bit freaked out by the thought of more jabs. I also had to have tests on my vision etc at an eye hospital as it went really weird post vaccine - it’s been scary.

OP posts:
mondaytosunday · 24/08/2022 17:07

I'll take it for sure. I was poorly for a couple days after the first but other than a headache and sore arm nothing from the second snd booster.
There are people who do have bad side effects - not usually as severe as yours. But overall I believe the evidence is for vaccinations.
My sister is a doctor and says get it if you can (she's had it twice, I haven't at all as far as I know - was tested today for a cruise tomorrow).

My various symptoms (one similar to yours) have lasted 6 months and Im only now just starting to feel a bit more normal, well back to 'just' long covid symptoms anyway.

Been in very close contact with at least 8 covid pos cases recently when immunity prob waning and not got it again so ill take my chances rather than go through all that again

BrightYellowDaffodil · 24/08/2022 17:11

I don’t doubt that the vaccines are safe and effective. But, having been very ill after my second jab due to the side effects, I have taken the decision that I don’t want any more and won’t be having any further boosters.

Mindymomo · 24/08/2022 17:11

I don’t think at the moment people aged 49 are going to be offered another vaccine. Dh and I will definitely be having flu jabs and booster, don’t know about my 2 adult sons, but doubt they will be offered one just yet.
