To ask for the tangible benefits to you from Brexit, whichever way you voted

I genuinely want to know, what’s improved? Specific to you/your family?

is Brexit as it is what you thought it would be, or if you voted Remain, has it been more positive than you expected?

anyone calling it ‘goady thread’ is possibly saying Brexit isn’t going that well?

Fuck all. My retirement to Spain has been whipped from under my feet. Those who voted Brexit should hang their heads in shame.

Why the hell should you have unequivocal access to Spain .. just because it's on the European continent.. That's their country.

If you're a high net worth individual you can retire anywhere in the world.

blackpearwhitelilies · 22/08/2022 23:16

None for me. It’s worse than I feared.

SerendipityJane · 22/08/2022 23:18

Raking it in as a truck driver (relatively speaking)

Until they scrap HGV licences and anyone can have a go. Believe you me, if you have benefitted from Brexit it's a mistake or an oversight. However first things first. The job of persuading the subjects of Northern Ireland that they are suffering and so need to be dragged down to the same misery as England is afoot. And it's a big task.

How many poverty sricken eastern europeans getting a better life at your expense did you know personally? @outlanderfan88

How uncanny that you cross posted this with my comment about Romanian drivers.

Why not ?

TokidokiBarbie · 22/08/2022 23:20

True dat. I reckon surgeons and commercial pilots will be next.

Fupoffyagrasshole · 22/08/2022 23:20

Duty free travelling to Ireland is about the only thing I can think of 😂😂😂😂🤣

Baggyeye · 22/08/2022 23:21

@MnPrem looking forward to paying for the 7 euro visa waiver fee from 2023 to enter the EU too - such a Brexit reward!

780,000 in November 2020, according to DWP data

Same. I’d have been delighted to have been proved wrong. Unfortunately it’s far worse than my most pessimistic imaginings.

And me. Would have loved to have been wrong.

The only other upside is UKIP are basically over and Farage is much less regularly on the telly.

Baggyeye · 22/08/2022 23:23

Knew PERSONALLY?

bringbackveronicamars · 22/08/2022 23:24

Not a single benefit to date...

TokidokiBarbie · 22/08/2022 23:25

It's not a 'mistake' or 'oversight' either. It's a genuine example of a situation where companies are no longer able to exploit cheap European labour at the expense of British drivers. I'm not sold on Brexit in other areas but this has been poetic watching all the hauliers squirm as they realise they can no longer pay people supermarket wages to drive a 40+ ton vehicle and accept all the risk and responsibility that comes with it.

Baggyeye · 22/08/2022 23:23

EU membership of the UK is a lot more than my own personal dealings..

If you must know...
There's some single mums from Romania, Lithuania and Poland at my daughters school.. They're in council housing and are subsidised by the state..

Lovely women, I know them all and i don't begrudge them anything.

yesitssea · 22/08/2022 23:28

My Brexit voting mum has realised how devious politicians really are. It's made her more considered if anything she reads in manifesto pledges or on the sides of busses.

sundayvibeswig22 · 22/08/2022 23:28

The chance of me seeing a united Ireland in my lifetime is now a real possibility.

You don't begrudge them anything, really? That sentiment doesn't really fit with your earlier statement does it?

*Our country is no longer a free for all for any poverty stricken eastern european who wants a "better life" at our expense.^

PeriodBro · 22/08/2022 23:34

No benefits at all, only added difficulties wrt work, money, staff, etc.

They're already here and settled..
The floodgates had to close though, hence why i voted leave.

Not the sharpest tool, are you?

bozzabollix · 22/08/2022 23:37

My indoctrinated father in law claims two benefits. One is that we can now purchase more powerful vacuum cleaners, sadly he didn’t consider that products tend to court a wider audience than just one country, so I don’t think I can buy something that could hoover up a sofa yet, but I’m assured by him it’s coming.

The other is slightly less tangible, he’s thrilled that we are no longer ‘run by faceless EU bureaucrats’. I did say that I actually know an EU bureaucrat and she really does have a face. The Express and the Mail know best though.

Seriously though, you’re going to be struggling to find anything, it’s so tedious to be so absolutely bang on with everything I thought prior to this shit show (I can’t take this off italics by the way, it’s an accident).

Kendodd · 22/08/2022 23:40

Just as a balance to all these Brexit benefits we're having, I think somebody should start a thread where people can list any negatives they've experienced (if there have been any) due to Brexit.

Whereas more recent and measured report showed that after initial post covid bounce we slumped. Almost like systemic factors were at play - like the impact of longterm decisions.

QueenOfHiraeth · 22/08/2022 23:42

BeechFairy · 22/08/2022 22:00

Voted remain.
I don't see any tangible benefits from Brexit but I am so over it. If it rains (or not!) its blamed on Brexit.
I can't imagine there is ever going to be a return to EU so we need to get on and make it work rather than forever being divided over a vote that happened 6 years ago.

Couldn't agree more!
The vicious, nasty comments towards Leave voters on this thread are disgusting. We all need to get past this
It's no wonder the country is in the shit when people would sooner hurl insults than accept that many of the problems we face are being faced by other countries too (so likely due to Covid, Ukraine, etc) and our best chance of getting through them is to work together for the good of us all

Isn't immigration actually up since Brexit?

LifeSucksBigTime · 22/08/2022 23:44

I really like how going to the supermarket is now like a big lucky dip, and you can only get about 25% of the things you hoped to buy. Really adds a certain edge of excitement to what was once a humdrum experience. And how you feel like you’ve beaten the system if you manage to get the last one on the shelf of something you wanted. It’s brilliant 🤩. Ooh and also how even though you can only get 25% of the things you wanted, it’s costing about the same as it did back when you’d be buying everything you wanted. That’s my favourite bit.

Really can’t see what the problem is 🤷‍♀️.
