Whats it called where you are and where are you? Do you have monkeys blood or is it strawberry sauce? Just seen on tv its a regional thing, mind is blown.

Ambulance? Never heard that either before tonight , I am from the Home Counties though.

LittleBearPad · 18/08/2022 23:36

What on earth?

Mangogogogo · 18/08/2022 23:36

Are you from the north? We call it that but I’ve only ever heard it round here

MammaWeasel · 18/08/2022 23:37

Eh?

ChiefWiggumsBoy · 18/08/2022 23:37

I don't know what you're talking about but it reminds me of when my 5 year olds told their teacher we had 'chilled monkey brains' for tea one evening - it was stuffed peppers but the lid reminded me of Indiana Jones Grin.

LaurieFairyCake · 18/08/2022 23:38

Never heard of it

I mean if you're 'hard' then surely it's 'ice running through your veins' 🤷‍♀️

NCHammer2022 · 18/08/2022 23:38

Monkey blood where I live (NE) but my dad says it was called dragons blood where he’s from.

ZeroFuchsGiven · 18/08/2022 23:38

Tauranga · 18/08/2022 23:38

Yes, im from the north east. I know lots of different things are regional like cheesy chips 😂 but would never of thought monkeys blood was.

I'd be in Minchella's- either on Ocean Road or at The Nook.

Possibly that's very regionalised! My Dad and I still talk about Monkey's Blood and he left the country 30 years ago!

nocoolnamesleft · 18/08/2022 23:39

Red squirty sauce on the top of ice cream? Not seen it in years, but we used to call it monkey blood.

QuestionableMouse · 18/08/2022 23:39

Monkey's blood is the red sauce you get on ice creams from the ice cream man. 🤣

Very much a NE thing I think!

Baldrickhasaplan · 18/08/2022 23:44

Monkey’s blood is red sauce and Dragon’s blood is green sauce, both for ice cream. North East.

SachiLars · 18/08/2022 23:44

It’s what my husband calls it and he’s from the North East.

maras3 · 18/08/2022 23:44

It's Monkey blood in my very large West Midlands city.
If anyone recognises the name D Di Mascio, you'll know which city. 😁

Daleksatemyshed · 18/08/2022 23:46

Not at all! I'm from the SE and we always called it Monkey's blood. No 99 is complete without it

Libre2 · 18/08/2022 23:47

I am from the South West of England, have lived in Ireland, Canada, France, East Africa and the South East of England and am finally back in the SW of England and have NEVER heard of this!! Strawberry sauce is just that - strawberry sauce. Monkey blood is something you get the vet in for.

CMSdividend · 18/08/2022 23:51

My grandad used to called our actual, rhesus negative, blood that so I had no idea it was to do with ice cream toppings 😂

CoffeeLover90 · 18/08/2022 23:52

NE England! Monkeys blood. One ice cream man gave me a funny look when I asked for it though. Love the weird things and sayings we have. We had a blockbuster on wheels too. Bloke selling and renting copy VHS from boot of his van. My mates in just the next town over hadn't heard of that but a few areas had them.

reenon · 18/08/2022 23:54

It's called strawberry sauce in the South East! 😀

CoffeeLover90 · 18/08/2022 23:54

Car not van. Time to go to kip (there's another)

Lwg87 · 18/08/2022 23:54

Wales. Never heard of it. We call it sauce.

QueenofLouisiana · 18/08/2022 23:57

As an aside- those of us who grew up in NE England: did you have a "pop man"? I'm mid-40s and we had one who cam once a week. I mentioned it the other day and DH (Londoner) looked at me like I was mad.
