To put dirty knickers in my own laundry basket?

I've lived in houseshares for many years and always had my own laundry basket in my room. I've been living with DP for 4 years now, we have a great relationship, can talk about anything, and share everything BUT I prefer to put my used/worn underwear in my own little laundry basket I have for them. Sometimes I have period leaks or discharge and I dont want anyone seeing that/dealing with that. (Yes, it happens, I'm not embarrassed of my period but I'm quite a private person in general). I don't like using liners every day because it's bad for the environment.

Anyway, DP thinks this is weird and funny, and always jokes about my 'stash of underwear' I keep in their own basket! Is this really that weird? Does everyone else just put your worn underwear in the family/shared washing basket?

Im adding my voice to the people who think the OP is a perv looking for dirty knicker stories.

The general tone of the post plus a DH who comments regularly on washing arrangements... 🤔

Many older ladies, my nan for instance woukd wash out their underwear every day when worn. Hangover from the war maybe but she did it right up to her death at 93

Surely you'd deal with this each day..? I wouldn't leave anything I'd leaked on (quick rinse in cold water and chuck a wash on)

I'm definitely not going to the laundrette with one pair of knickers!

UWhatNow · 18/08/2022 15:11

I find it prudish and overly precious - especially when you’re hiding it from someone you have sex with. However my dd21 is also very private and does this and I wouldn’t trample on her sensitivities so YANBU.

"But if you go on to have daughters I think it's important to set them an example that their natural bodies are nothing to be ashamed of."

I think that it's important to teach them that they can have privacy if they want it.

heathspeedwell · 18/08/2022 15:15

I think it's a bit odd so feel so embarrassed about a normal part of being a woman. My DH does almost all our washing, I have no problem with him knowing I have periods.

It sounds like you are very happy with your partner. If you plan to start a family with him one day maybe consider not passing on your awkwardness to your children.

Get some period pants, they are game changers and great for the enviroment.

I got mine from primark but I believe they stopped selling them but you can still order them from websites online I think.

Summergirl5 · 18/08/2022 15:18

I do the same ,after my dh told my knickers looked dirty after a wash ..discharge stain…made me paranoid after that ,slightest hint of a stain and I throw them out now ..he was obviously disgusted by them ..never let him near them now

Bunnyfluffles · 18/08/2022 15:19

Oh gosh I hide my knickers! Really not necessary to share everything in my opinion!

Arnaquer · 18/08/2022 15:23

I really couldn't e bothered but you do you

Sharrowgirl · 18/08/2022 13:59

I like to poo on my own

Er…..I don’t think you’re alone in that…

Completely different

WildOnce · 18/08/2022 15:25

DH does all the washing so he sees my used knickers regularly! If I’ve had a leak I usually intervene with some vanish but that’s it. He’s seen me give birth twice so I’m not fussed and more than happy to leave all the washing to him.

LakieLady · 18/08/2022 15:27

I think it's weird, but each to their own, especially their own pants!

WilsonMilson · 18/08/2022 15:30

Do what you want I guess, but it is a bit weird.
I just put mine in the family basket in the main loo and assume no one is rummaging through to check out the state of my gussets!

And if they are, that’s on them. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Iamacatslave · 18/08/2022 15:34

I take it you have sex together?

Crafty09 · 18/08/2022 15:44

Nah, who cares. DH has his own laundry basket and does not like me washing his stuff because I don’t do it right. Or hang it up right. So you know what the answer to that is then!

Chillow · 18/08/2022 15:48

YANBU at all, DH and I have separate laundry. I don't like people touching my laundry.

I'm not anal about laundry (towels and bedding are not washed very week!) but I am very careful about separating whites/colours/silks. Tea towels never get washed with underwear.

You do you, and ignore the judgementals.

I don't machines clean a lot of stains, best to handwash in cold water. Bit unreasonable of him to point it out.

ChimbarasiKotapaxi · 18/08/2022 15:50

Not weird at all OP

Ketanne · 18/08/2022 15:53

Yes, let me discuss my underwear with you! Or is it specifically soiled underwear you're after?

🤦‍♀️

Irishfarmer · 18/08/2022 15:53

DH and I share a washing basket but if you aren't comfortable putting your kickers in the shared basket I don't think it's weird just maybe a little unusual.

amusedbush · 18/08/2022 15:58

I think it's a little bit odd but I get it.

However, DH and I have our own bedrooms (and, now that I think about it, our own laundry baskets), which I'm sure most people will find weirder than a knicker laundry basket so who am I to judge Grin

I only ever wear black pants and my fanny bleaches the crotch of them, which DH found hilarious at first. In fact, I didn't even know that was A Normal Thing until I was well into my 20s, I thought I was defective and I wish more people talked about it!

Whoactuallythinksthat · 18/08/2022 16:02

AKnitterofThings · 18/08/2022 13:44

Why not try some washable panty liners. I get mine from Honour Your Flow and use them for post menopausal leaks. That in itself wouldn’t help with the laundry issue but they come in lots of colours. I have mine pegged out on the line to dry, but I have no shame!

But then she’d have to have a secret laundry bin for the washable liners 🤣🤣

Greyhare · 18/08/2022 16:03

I find it weird that you have one just for knickers, husband and I have our own laundry baskets and do our own washing.
