To not really like it when men post on here?

Just that really. After reading not one but two bullshit threads started by men in the last few days I’m just a bit sick of them posting on here. I love mumsnet. I’ve read interesting threads, hilarious ones, heartbreaking and sometimes infuriating ones and I just feel like saying ‘oh piss off’ every time a bloke sticks their neb in. It’s MUMSnet ffs. I know I am being unreasonable really and am a massive hypocrite as I’m not (yet) a mum myself haha and don’t actually contribute anything of value to this site myself but still….they get on my tits.

OP posts:

@WhileMyGuitarGentlyWeeps Do you live on Wisteria Lane? Ugh, sounds very Stepford Wives!!

Ahsoka2001 · 18/08/2022 20:58

I'm a man and when I posted asking if I was BU to use Mumsnet I got a load of replies saying no worries/no one cares. What gives?

I’ve seen threads like that.

If a pleasant, respectful bloke asks directly if it’s “okay for him to post” (the normal question). I’ll say “yes” and be friendly. Because you’re allowed here and pleasant men aren’t really a problem.

But OP is a woman referencing recent arsehole men posting (I’ve seen them) and saying “I know I’m a bit unreasonable but I don’t like it” which did chime with me and probably chimed with others.

It is nice to be in a majority female space. A few decent men, posting honestly without arrogance, don’t spoil it. Increasing numbers of twatty men (as recently) do spoil it a bit. 🤷🏻‍♀️

You’re allowed here, nothing we can do.

If you adopt the right attitude, we might even like you. 😄

Makes sense. I'll try my best on the attitude front :)

What would be a better system for some posters on the threads ?

UWhatNow · 20/08/2022 12:41

I like that men are reading and responding to what women really think - in real life women hide behind social conditioning but on MN you see a more authentic side - vulnerable, harsh, funny etc. If male posters turn into dicks there are enough bright posters to hand there arse to them.

UWhatNow · 20/08/2022 12:42

Aaah horror - their not there…

user73783 · 20/08/2022 12:47

When I used netmums years ago there was a token single dad (supposedly) who stalked any threads that veered into women's rights to talk about how hard done by he was, "not all men" and all that BS, oh and how the pathetic women rallied around him, it was gross.

theniceunderstandingone · 20/08/2022 12:48

@honkeytonkwoman38
This! Poor guy not wanted by the mums or the dads in his area 🤣

comedycentral · 20/08/2022 12:55

I actually hate the ones where someone posts for advice and a poster responds with 'I asked my husband and he says...'

-Who cares about the opinion of your random husband? Confused

Tayegete · 20/08/2022 13:01

BadNomad · 15/08/2022 23:12

I get more annoyed by the "I asked my DH and he says your boyfriend is a knob" type posts. We didn't ask your husband, Sandra!

😂😂 completely agree with this! It’s like having a man agreeing with you validates that you have the correct opinion.

user73783 · 20/08/2022 13:24

@comedycentral oh god yes, especially if it's anything to do with finances/income/work. I cringe so hard when they go on those threads asking what others do for work and how it pays etc to say what their husband earns.

Paul85 · 21/08/2022 18:13

I enjoy reading a womans point of view and find some of the posts hilarious but im also shocked at some of the horrible comments ive read since joining. This is NOT a woman only forum so dont get the hostility towards men.I also read Closer magazine ....sue me!

ReneBumsWombats · 21/08/2022 18:29

Why are people so surprised that a female-centric forum centres women? It's not as if you have to look very far to find media that focuses on what men want. If Mumsnet shocks you, you must be VERY new to the Internet.

Northernsouloldies · 21/08/2022 18:39

I like the wide range of subject matter and like the female perspective particularly on social issues.

Ha ha that is a fair point.

I logged back onto a real petrol head's classic car forum with a majority percentage of older men as members. Subjects range from car maintenance to political debate.A small percentage of women are members and all are treated exactly the same with advice, help and are without fail welcomed even if they don't drive the car that the forum is all about.Recently on Mumsnet I was told my take on a subject would not be welcomed even though I had first hand experience with the subject of the thread.

Similar. I’m a member of other forums (cars, music) which are majority men but have women too. I’ve never seen them treated how men are sometimes treated on here

user73783 · 21/08/2022 19:12

@SurreyHillsinspring I suppose it depends on the context, cars are gender neutral, relationships and health (much of what mumsnet covers) will have a lot of gender bias involved. I'd expect to be treated as an equal if I was asking about a car problem, but would expect some challenge or hesitation if I tried to add my opinion on prostate cancer, male suicide or erections to a group of men.

That's good. When I was on a male-centric site, one of only a very few women, most of them were fine - some of them are real life friends now - but some of them were awful. Death and rape threats and attempted doxxing at the very worst. Plenty of misogynistic comments.

MN has some awful people but I've never encountered that here. It's also pretty clear that there are some men who post under feminine usernames.

The kind of reply i expected...i am not new to the internet but the ganging up on people on this forum and abuse is disgusting ...most of the people doing the abusing probably lead very sad lifes.Wee Shame.

jewishmum · 21/08/2022 19:23

It's Mumsnet and I am relatively new so I've also been a bit taken aback when someone posts claiming to be a man. It does feel like it spoils the site. Perhaps it should be a secure sign up with a piece of ID and a photo.

Spoils it for me when all these women that don’t have children either post… do they not know it’s MUMsnet.

Seems like you made the mistake of not finding out what Mumsnet is for and who is able to join.

They could well have a secure sign up with photo and ID but men would still be present so don't think your idea would change your enjoyment (or lack of).

Although it would perhaps limit the amount of posts that I think the OP is referring to.

If you don't like men on this site I'd respectfully suggest that the problem lies with you, as opposed to the website.
