To not include DD on hotel room booking?

Looking to book a two night trip to York for Christmas and both air b and b apartments as well as hotels (without including breakfast) are charging around £75 and up extra if I include DD on the booking (she is 2).

The size of the room doesn't change. What is with the additional cost? Its not cheaper whether its 1 or 2 adults, but only if you add a child onto the booking.

I am half tempted to just book for two adults for the air b and b property I am looking at - its self service collection for the keys so they wouldn't know anyway?

Theoretically what happens if you book a room and then have a baby - do you call and get charged more?

(I realise for insurance/fire purposes they need to know occupants per room).

You'd be thrown out of my property for breaching the terms and conditions and for invalidating my insurance. Airbnb requires a level of trust between host and guest which you had breached.

You'd also get some pretty blunt feedback which would make many other hosts decline your booking.

PeekAtYou · 15/08/2022 15:16

I've seen people post Ring doorbell footage of people trying to cheat "the system" on SM. admittedly it's people inviting 11 people to a property for 4 people but you could be caught by the doorbell.

Butteryflakycrust83 · 15/08/2022 15:17

I called one of the hotels and they have said I can pay for the large double room (as priced for two adults) as long as I don't need an a cot (which I dont).

@Popcorncovered you leave your kids’ poo up the wall and on surfaces when you go places?

No ...I don't think anyone has mentioned poo on walls. I was commenting on:

BerryBerryBerryBerry · Today 14:26

Insurance, a bin full of nappies? Shitty surfaces? Noise to other neighbours? Scribbling on walls? This is why my parents don't take kids

ArcticSkewer · 15/08/2022 15:19

I wouldn't for Air BnB as they may be personally invested eg owners of just one property and vet carefully

Premier Inn - noone knows, noone cares, do what you want. They probably won't charge more anyway, plus they do kids eat free. Much better bet.

Hungryharriet · 15/08/2022 15:20

Just do a Premier Inn family room. Problem sorted.

This. Just remembering all the hotel rooms i used to stay at when an ex partner was travelling for work and no one batted an eyelid.

This thread solidified why I hate air b and b as a concept anyway. Some of these comments, phew!

Sorry- off piste. Are you going to York for Christmas or around Christmas? I am looking for something lovely to do and like the sound of York.

(Another vote for premier Inn. I love it and kids eat free for breakfast)

sleepwouldbenice · 15/08/2022 15:26

You've been given the message several times to pay up or go elsewhere or contact them and ask

But you are still acting so entitled

Think they will be happy not to have you

When the Christmas markets open, end of November! Its fantastic - I had so much fun when we went early summer and DD loved it. As a lot of it is pedestrianised its lovely to just wonder around.

Couldn't agree more.

I hope they kick you out when they find out ....

orbitalcrisis · 15/08/2022 15:34

Try Holiday Inn, they don't charge extra for children.

Chilesstanton · 15/08/2022 15:36

If you acknowledge that they need the correct number of occupants for insurance purposes, then why are you considering providing incorrect info?

You'd be shocked at the mess some people leave behind..... poo up the wall isn't a stretch!

But like...obviously make sure you tell your accommodation if you have a tiny child who may poop up the walls :)

Have a look at the Staycity Barbican - we got a reasonable price and stayed with our 2 year old in the room!

starfishmummy · 15/08/2022 15:44

Butteryflakycrust83 · 15/08/2022 14:42

My point is - the room should be a flat fee with a maximum number of occupants depending on the beds surely?

A room with two double beds? The price is the price for up to 4 occupants.

Not - two adults £100, but two adults 1 child - £175.

In those circumstances an extra bed would be used for which they are charging. If you don't like it then find somewhere else.

Rosehugger · 15/08/2022 15:45

I can understand charging more if people are going to use more bed linen etc but if you are bringing your own travel cot and bedding it seems a bit off.

Where have you got an extra bed from?

God the hostility here, I feel like Mary trying to find a room for the night.....

It’s not up to you to decide what is a reasonable price or conditions of rental. The owner decides that… and then it’s up to you to accept or decline, not to defraud the system.

You have to accept that having a child adds to costs. You must expect to start paying some entrance fees and to be charged for accommodation etc. It’s just how it is.

You can justify it to yourself by saying it’s a rip-off or there aren’t any extra costs to the seller. That’s irrelevant to be honest. They offer you the deal they offer you…and you accept or decline.

And there absolutely is the insurance issue. Of course it’s totally unlikely anything will happen, but if it did and you’ve smuggled your child in, insurance will be invalid.

In the end, decide if you want to be fraudulent….but accept it for what it really is.

I think this is your answer OP - what if there were a fire and they no one knew DD was there?

And OP chooses to ignore this.

chelle0 · 15/08/2022 15:48

I just tried to book a hotel for the 3 of us. 2 adults and a nearly 2 year old. £205. For 2 is was £104. They were charging for a 1 double and 1 single. For a 1 year old. That's ridiculous.
