Anyone else sick to death of the heat?

I know there have been numerous threads on this already but OMG, I cannot taking this sodding heat any more. I actually feel sick today because it's so oppressive and I can't get anything done around the house, which is like a furnace. Normally it's like this for a few days in the summer before cooling again, but it's been about six weeks of intense heat now in the south-east.

It's looking like tomorrow is the last of it thankfully - I sodding well hope so.

Anyone else completely fed-up?

While not a lover of this heat drying the washing outside within hours has been a blessing.
I've made the most of washing anything that's suitable to go in the machine....anything fabric that's not pinned down has had a darn good freshen up before the autumn and long dark nights set in....

Well, I’ve not been doing any washing at all because I am really worried about us in the dry SE running out of water! I have been collecting handwashing, shower and washing up water to put on the garden as so many trees and shrubs are struggling.

i’m also leaving water out for birds, foxes and badger.

I can handle the heat but the lack of rain, the expected failure of this year’s crops and next year’s spring crops (they can’t plant if too dry) feels quite scary. It’s all kinds of wrong. We rely on this. And harvest failures are a global issue, it’s not just us.

and this is just the start of the locked in temp rises, how are we going to cope when these heatwaves hit 45 or 50 degrees?

tobee · 14/08/2022 23:08

And the Ukraine situation is not going to help crop wise.

springisaroundthecorner · 14/08/2022 23:10

I always look forward to September. Hot weather just ruins everything. You can't do anything without feeling overheated and sweaty

gnilliwdog · 14/08/2022 23:13

@Phrenologistsfinger I think the planet is just reacting to our behaviour and attempting to rebalance itself. Unless there is catastrophe humans will just carry on with industry, flights, cars, chopping down the trees -which we need- etc. I don't expect our politicians to do anything, but maybe ordinary people will wake up when they get truly uncomfortable. I feel worried too.

Omg I cannot WAIT for it to be over!! I used to suffer from chronic urticaria and guess what with all the excess sweating and heat I've broken out again and have facial swelling too, feel inflamed and sore and the heavy heat is enough to make me cry.

I'm not looking forward to the energy bills and do hate the prolonged darkness. But it's too much. Why can't the weather ever just be balanced?!

Cholinergic and chronic urticaria here so empathy. I've been put on Xolair which has resolved everything for the first time in 25 years

The very informative poster OhYouBadBadKitten has started a post about storm warnings for those who asked earlier:-

I normally avoid the beach in summer. Partly re traffic and partly as my garden has plenty of shade.

But have been a couple of times this summer, just to take advantage of the breeze. There are a few well-known beaches near to me - luckily this one isn’t as popular so had it almost to myself (weekday, school holidays).

Am definitely more of a summer person - but completely understand why people are finding this hard. Normally, I’d be answering back due to the fact that we get so many wet and miserable months, let me enjoy a short summer! But the fact it’s gone on so long is definitely worrying - and obviously unpleasant for many.

My house is a bugger to heat in winter - but downstairs stays cool during this heat. Am sure I’ll be on here moaning once the cold kicks in.

Anyone else sick to death of the heat?
ToGanymedeAndTitan · 15/08/2022 02:04

I like a bit of heat, but it's actually unbearable these past couple of weeks, been feeling physically sick with it 😓
YANBU!

That sea and beach looks so lovely.

yanbu. I wish it were Autumn all year long!

sickofthisshite000 · 15/08/2022 06:13

Another hot day forecast here in the SE, FFS. At least it’s the last unbearably hot day though - it’s back down to 25C tomorrow. It looks like it’s going to be low to mid 20s for the following week too - perfect. I’m so relieved this ridiculous heat is coming to an end!

@LuckySantangelo35 sorry but you are coming across as v annoying and smug on this thread. It is literally a moan for people who hate this hot weather. We’re all different and we all have different intolerances. Most people do not love this level and duration of heat

@Lipsandlashes

i and all the other heat lovers have to endure tons of posts all autumn and winter about pumpkin spice latte, autumn leaves, hot choc, jumpers, cozy nights in, candles, ‘snuggles with my little family’ etc etc when I hate winter and the cold and I suffer in it

so you know it works both ways 🤷‍♀️

Timeturnerplease · 15/08/2022 07:14

I thought it was going to cool down in Sussex this morning….still baking and humid.

Eldest going to nursery and youngest going to MIL’s so I can do some work (teacher). Wondering if the neighbours will object to me sitting half naked with my laptop in the shaded garden.

Abracadabra12345 · 14/08/2022 22:00

Don’t worry, you’ll get your wish. Climate change must seem a wonderful thing

@Abracadabra12345

i dunno

it’s weird isn’t as it was unseasonably cold, windy etc in May and lots of June this year so not sure you’re right (or it was up north anyway)

BunsyGirl · 15/08/2022 07:33

Only a 50 per cent chance of rain here today. We desperately need some rain. The garden is protesting. Never seen the trees lose so many leaves in August..I’m out there every day clearing them so the kids can play on the lawn.

Devongurl · 15/08/2022 07:39

It's raining here this morning!

onlythreenow · 15/08/2022 07:46

Envious of anyone experiencing rain. It’s still disgustingly hot here in London.

Some of us are in winter atm, and have had far too much rain, with more expected. I for one cannot wait for summer and some heat and dry days.

OddsandSods · 15/08/2022 07:55

I think most people who ‘love it’ can’t live in London or the South East. It’s not so much the heat here but the humidity. It’s hideous and exhausting. We already lack the fresh air and low pollution that people in the north / SW of the country benefit from. I remember being in 45c heat in another country, with low humidity and felt fine, business as usual. Our infrastructure isn’t set up for this.

AnyFucker · 15/08/2022 08:03

Rained a bit more in the night after last evenings thunder and downpours. A few more rumbles too.

This morning it’s already 21deg but feels fresher. More rain and thunder forecast for this afternoon although it is sunny right now.

Sorry, I live in London 🤓

rainbowdaz · 15/08/2022 08:39

But how can you love it? Honestly it's sweltering. I'm at no risk for sunburn but it's so uncomfortable, can just feel those UV Rays beating down with zero clouds. Much 25-29 degree weather than this!😪

JustDanceAddict · 15/08/2022 08:43

Yup! Yesterday was awful. No breeze and slept badly last night.
so glad it’s going to get cooler this week.
it’s not like you can relax by a pool or easily go into air con in the uk. In fact dh and I did go to a shopping centre on Sat - it was heaving with others escaping the heat!!

ImJustMadAboutSaffron · 15/08/2022 08:43

What makes me sick are the idiots who spout "It's not hot enough for meeeee!!!!" which I have heard on the hottest day of the year. Two Neanderthal types in a shop one talking about it was brilliant he burned his hands on the steering wheel driving up the A64. They're nuts and I told them so - just macho posturing. But why???

prettyteapotsplease · 15/08/2022 08:51

The difficulty is that when the weather breaks as surely it must soon, we may get the other extreme of rain lashing down so violently that it just bounces off the scorched earth instead of being gently absorbed by it. Also the drains won't cope with the sudden onslaught and there'll be isolated flooding.

ATM though I'd feel like going out in any rain just for the sensation of cooling down.

XingMing · 15/08/2022 08:55

Raining here now, but a gentle wetting shower -- which is exactly what my garden needs!
