Forgive me mumsnet, for I have sinned...

Lighthearted!

My sin: I went to a Wetherspoons whilst on holiday in England. Not once, but twiceBlush The food was great and I have 3 children with very restricted tastes in food. I'm the same so the menu suited us all. I feel bad about going there knowing the mumsnet consensus on the guy who runs Wetherspoons but it met our needs. I am a Catholic and feel like I need to say a few Hail Marys as a result.

What are your mumsnet sins?

@WalkingOnTheCracks Surely not every solstice? 😮

marmb87 · 17/08/2022 21:20

I have 2 toilet brushes
I am a secret vaper
I drive a BMW
I don’t change my bedsheets every 2 weeks
I am learning French on Duolingo (je suis un chat 🐈)

Needwine999 · 17/08/2022 21:44

I drink wine every day, a big MN sin

Needwine999 · 17/08/2022 21:47

and we dont eat dinner at the dining table together

IcakethereforeIam · 17/08/2022 22:02

Il y a un canard dans le lavabo

Oh and I can never be fucked with putting my washing on the line so it all goes in the tumble drier. Shrunk or not

I don't like the smell of line dried clothes. And I totally agree about the shrinkage. It is much better than wasting hours hanging out knickers

AlternativelyWired · 17/08/2022 22:44

I'm back from holiday now and have not committed a sun as awful as Wetherspoons since. I have however hung out my mum's washing tonight (she can't do it herself) because it is y going to rain until tomorrow afternoon and it will be dry by then and I will be there to bring it in. She wasn't keen on it being darker on and worried what the neighbours might think but was slightly reassured that spiders don't have willies so can't rub them on her smalls.

@AlternativelyWired - You are deliberately misleading people. Of course spiders have willies 😂😂😂!

WanderingFruitWonderer · 18/08/2022 11:42

I didn't realise Duolingo counts as a sin on here?! Why? I've been learning Italian on Duolingo for just over two years 🤭

AlternativelyWired · 18/08/2022 11:46

That's another sin for me then as I'm learning Ukrainian on Duolingo.

What's wrong with duolingo?

jputthekettleon · 18/08/2022 12:20

I am a recent convert to microwave rice, even though it’s really expensive and doesn’t taste as good but it’s so much easier for me and the kids to cook it for 2 mins and it’s ready.

whatthefunkisgoingon · 17/08/2022 20:32

One last thing, towels and sheets only get washed when they smell or get inconspicuous stains on them

Love it 😂

BellePeppa · 18/08/2022 12:41

My dog can sleep anywhere she wants.
When younger my kids could eat dessert even if they’d barely touched their dinner.
Elbows are allowed on tables (or rather, not disallowed)
I ’steal’ my kids chocolate
I check my son’s last activity on WhatsApp when he’s at Uni to reassure myself he’s safe.

vodkaredbullgirl · 18/08/2022 13:32

I live in social housing and can't afford to own my own house.
Kids ate junk when they were younger.
I have a bath and wash my hair and don't have a shower afterwards.
Dogs can go anywhere in the house, sleep on any bed they like.
Worked part time and got help with living costs.

prettyteapotsplease · 18/08/2022 13:44

I often wear the same dress two days running.

I don't wash my hair every day.

I love a Wetherspoons and I own a toilet brush.

I never listen to Radio Four.

Eek l have been doing this for years....only about 35p a pouch in Lidl so am all over that!

Ski4130 · 18/08/2022 13:59

I leave washing out overnight. I'm a risk taker. Spider willies be damned.

I use microwave rice. It's still cheaper than me effing up proper rice.

What's wrong with duolingo?

I'm flummoxed by this one too. It was mentioned up thread. I'm wondering if it's because it uses American English rather than British English? Which doesn't actually bother me! Other than that, I've got no idea whatsoever?!

StarlightLady · 18/08/2022 14:34

@jputthekettleon - When you look at energy costs, I'm not so sure microwave rice is more expensive. Especially if you were previously using basmati and other longer to cook rices.

I don't get this one either, it's not a sin at all. It's recommended so much on the language threads.

Smoke in the house, in front of my kids.

I don’t think that qualifies as a MN sin. You are knowingly accepting that your children are likely to get asthma, loose their hearing or other…

and in case you didn’t know the full extent smoking has on developing lungs, ears and immune systems you should inform yourself to make a conscious choice.

It's okay they are adults and no problems at all, neither have taken up smoking.

jputthekettleon · 18/08/2022 15:36

@StarlightLady that is true actually I hadn’t thought of it that way

You are not the first to try and sell me the microwave rice but I don’t get it.
At current energy rates (gas) it costs me 4p to cook a white rice. I choose organic at £2.30 per kilo. 200g is 46p plus 2p gas ( I always cook double) is 48p. Where is the cheaper microwaved rice please?

I can choose not to buy organic from the refill shop but still think I make the better deal.
