Lighthearted!

My sin: I went to a Wetherspoons whilst on holiday in England. Not once, but twiceBlush The food was great and I have 3 children with very restricted tastes in food. I'm the same so the menu suited us all. I feel bad about going there knowing the mumsnet consensus on the guy who runs Wetherspoons but it met our needs. I am a Catholic and feel like I need to say a few Hail Marys as a result.

What are your mumsnet sins?

I remember you from the Covid boards too @XenoBitch - I think you defended me at least once! We were a small band of despised untouchables - comrades! Gosh they were dark days on there back then weren't they? So glad those days are over. I'm so glad to hear you also had a mild case 😊

@PoxyAndIKnowIt I'm sorry you're feeling unwell. You take care and get well soon. I'm not an anti-vaxxer at all, and think it was right for many (personal choice) It's such a weird and unpredictable virus, in terms of who it affects, and how.
How lovely to have a non-judgemental thread. I guess we're all sinners here, one way or another!

Indeed @WanderingFruitWonderer . I got myself vaxed , but didn’t care what anyone else did. Their choice. It’s also true that my motivations were entirely selfish. I recall some awful, ludicrous posturing and name calling back then from the pro-vaxers (more so them than the sceptics and anti-vaxers). Some awful, wild threads.

My DD’s Boyfriend’s best friend - an apparently healthy 26-year-old man - got the vaccine (in Germany) and died two days later… gave me pause for thought, I can tell you.

Itloggedmeoutagain · 16/08/2022 21:10

I leave my shoes on inside
I have a toilet brush
I don't own a dishwasher
If the washing is out when it goes dark it stays out

This is a long thread

I never put the lid down on the loo when I flush it
I dont hate men
I think people should correct people's spelling and grammar on forums
I eat too many processed foods
We dont always recycle properly because its a too much faff
I never use abbreviations to say mum, dad, son etc apart from OH for 'other half'.

We dont always recycle properly because its a too much faff

Aka

We don't always recycle properly because it's a too much faff WinkWink

pilkywilkymoansalot · 16/08/2022 21:28

Never put the lid down on the loo - the price of a soft close seat is ridiculous. My old man is on his 3rd. Only very sick patient recently was not vaccinated take heed. Use the word dado rail every day - ‘keep the bed 6 inch off the dado rail’ - they haven’t a clue what I’m on about. Drink wine and eat snacks in bed most days.

bellac11 · 16/08/2022 21:52

I also dont complain about my partner leaving the seat up and he doesnt complain about me leaving it down

I dont use the food waste bin, it all just goes in the normal bin. The broken food waste bin and caddy is broken somewhere in the garden

Amybelle88 · 16/08/2022 22:28

@XenoBitch I'm vaccinated but I'm pro choice and if someone doesn't want to get the vaccine it doesn't bother me in the slightest; it's not my business and far too many people think it's theirs 🤦🏻‍♀️

I'm assuming you've had a mild case bevause the virus as a whole has diluted down massively now. It's just mild on the whole for vaccinated and unvaccinated (obv bar a few exceptions), pretty much just because that's how these viruses work, they become less deadly as time goes on. I'm no expert by the way😂 just going off what my cancer nurse tells me (he lead the covid wards in the peak).

Sorry you've dealt with people giving you shit for not being vaccinated. If you're happy with your choice and they're happy with theirs I don't see the problem 🤦🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️

Hope it passes soon for you ❤️

PuzzledObserver · 17/08/2022 11:31

I'm vaccinated but I'm pro choice and if someone doesn't want to get the vaccine it doesn't bother me in the slightest; it's not my business and far too many people think it's theirs

I am also pro choice. Nevertheless, I believe that those of the unvaccinated for whom vaccination would have done more harm than good are a minority, most people’s reasons, while undoubtedly emotionally important to them, were not rational. With a disease as transmissible as COVID, high levels of vaccination are vital. So while I don’t directly blame every unvaccinated individual for case rates, I do think it would be better for all of us if they all got vaccinated. Same with measles, polio etc.

I just read Vaxxers by Sarah Gilbert and Catherine Green who helped develop the Oxford AstraZeneca vaccine. Very enlightening, I recommend it.

Coincidentally, I currently have Covid, my second time. My first time was just as vaccines were starting to roll out but before I’d had mine. I went on to have the full three doses and will have the Autumn booster when offered. I wasn’t seriously ill last time, but it took a long time to get over. I’m probably a similar level of ill this time, but showing improvement quicker.

WanderingFruitWonderer · 17/08/2022 13:29

Oh dear, I shouldn't have brought up the dreaded V word. It was bound to be the thing that incited a slightly judgemental comment, not in the spirit of the thread.
Just for the record, I'm not, and never have been, an anti-vaxxer. I actually tried to get vaccinated, and had a severe panic attack at the vaccination centre, as I'd got myself in such a severe state about it. I'm a vegan and oppose animal testing; and also have medical anxiety. I was ultra careful re Covid, especially in the earlier days. I finally got it last month, as the new strains are so contagious etc. It was very mild for me. Only felt slightly unwell for 2 or 3 days, and no after effects. Partly that's due to the diluted Omicron. Partly high vitamin D levels and other supplements etc.
There are so many things we could judge other people for. We're all flawed, in spite of trying our best. Climate change worries me considerably more than Covid. I've taken steps - going vegan, car free, no flying etc. I could judge others for not doing those things, but I accept we all have different priorities etc.
The vaccine debate is somewhat 2021. It's unlikely anyone unvaccinated will get vaccinated for the first time now. Most people have milder illness now with Omicron, though of course some people are very unfortunate.
Anyway, I committed another Mumsnet sin - thinking I could admit my vaccination status on here without any judgement at all! Though to be fair, lovely comments too, and no severe judgement, so all good...

ParanoidGynodroid · 17/08/2022 13:37

Ah, any not-in-the-spirit judginess is entirely on the judgers, @WanderingFruitWonderer , just ignore them.

WanderingFruitWonderer · 17/08/2022 13:42

@ParanoidGynodroid thank you 😊

Comefromaway · 17/08/2022 13:45

I detest everything that the owner of Wetherspoons stands for

BUT

It is SAFE food for my neuro-diverse family with food issues.

BronnauMawrion · 17/08/2022 14:06

I don't buy naice ham.

whineochoc · 17/08/2022 17:13

Loving this thread, to be honest I do most of the things that have been stated but even though I’ve been a long time MNetter lurker, occasional commenter I have no idea how you are supposed to clean a toilet without a toilet brush. Someone, anyone enlighten me please 🙏🏼

Sponge with the green scourer layer, rubber gloves, cleaning fluid.

Antarcticant · 17/08/2022 17:38

I enjoy picking out my ingrown hairs! I also enjoy doing it to my husbands beard too after he's had a shave!

Note - this is NOT a sin in Sporner Corner. Come and join us!

UrbanMage · 17/08/2022 19:03
  1. I like grey. Its a neutral and goes with everything.
  2. I don't mind a 'spoons, harvester and beige food.
  3. I've given up work to be a SAHM and am reliant on my husband
  4. I like my tumble dryer. I cannot be arsed pegging out tiny socks.
  5. I don't wash my walls and my bedding gets done when it's done
  6. My child is loud
LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL · 17/08/2022 19:04

I'm currently in Spoons!

Go me!

PuzzledObserver · 17/08/2022 20:06

Forgive me, mumsnet, for I have sinned: I allowed myself to be sidetracked into a philosophical/ethical conversation rather than focussing on confession. Lesson learned.

Here are some of my other sins:-

— I am not a mother, I’m just here because I enjoy the discussion boards

  • I have a lot of grey in my house and I like it

  • I have a loo brush next to each toilet

  • I have never let my washing be darked on, but it’s such a great phrase I’m going to try it. Especially if it means I find out what spider willies are.

  • I find tattoos, multiple piercings, fillers, Botox and similar unappealing and I think removing your pubic hair is weird

WalkingOnTheCracks · 17/08/2022 20:07

No one in our house irons anything unless someone’s died.

Neither do we pair socks.

We do change bed linen regularly though. Solstices, without fail.

PuzzledObserver · 17/08/2022 20:12

@bellac11 Sponge with the green scourer layer, rubber gloves, cleaning fluid.

Further details required, please. Do you use a new sponge and pair of rubber gloves each time? I’d feel like I would want to….. which would be very wasteful and un-eco compared to a toilet brush held by the safe end and then immediately returned to its enclosure.

Maybe it depends how often you clean your loo. Because if one or more of the household have….. issues….. then it’s going to need a quick wipe around most days to leave things pleasant for the next person.

Cleaning fluid…… we use bleach.

bellac11 · 17/08/2022 20:19

I dont like bleach but it is used at times. Its normally toilet cleaner

We have terrible terrible hard water, so it needs a proper scourer product rather than the useless bristles of a toilet brush

Any 'detritus' above the water line is wiped away with toilet paper and flushed.

Theres usually no detritus below the water line, a couple of flushes and some loo cleaner after the 'incident' usually gets rid of that so theres nothing usually to wipe away below the water line.

So the sponge gets re used but its only cleaning the equivalent of a porcelain container of water.

whatthefunkisgoingon · 17/08/2022 20:26

I can’t wait to go to a spoons after reading this thread!

I regularly leave my DC (9 & 10) on their own. Even been to the pub with DH a few times

My DC have unlimited screen time in school holidays and I DGAF

I’ve sacked about 10 cleaners because they’re all shit. Yet I CBA to actually do the housework myself, so now my house is scummy

Have toilet brushes (albeit rarely used)

whatthefunkisgoingon · 17/08/2022 20:28

Oh and I can never be fucked with putting my washing on the line so it all goes in the tumble drier. Shrunk or not

whatthefunkisgoingon · 17/08/2022 20:32

One last thing, towels and sheets only get washed when they smell or get inconspicuous stains on them
