... to think you wouldn't touch Ryan Giggs with a bargepole?

ImJustMadAboutSaffron · 08/08/2022 23:02

"Giggs found love again with lingerie model, Zara Charles, 33, who has 'supported' him through the charges."

I don't want to get into the legalities of the ongoing case, but what normal woman would knowingly get involved with the likes of him?

Ryan Giggs is a scummy scuzzball. But I don't know why I should feel sympathy for Kate Greville. She was 28 when she met him so not a child. She was a pr executive so she knew l about Ryan Giggs' sordid background. She'd only been married 2 years when she started cheating on her alleged controlling husband. She knew Giggs was married, had cheated before and that his wife and children had been humiliated multiple times. And yet she decided to pursue a relationship with him which she knew would hurt all three of them.

If Giggs assaulted her, then the court will make a judgement and hand out punishment. That's totally on him and Kate Greville is not responsible for that. But I'm still unsure why we give cheating adult women a pass on adultery in a way we would never do to men.

Allegedly it's "bashing women".

Its not just him is it though? He was having affairs with a number of women who presumably knew he was married. What is their reasoning for conducting the flings/affairs?

That's exactly what I was asking. I might have worded my OP clumsily, suggesting that women who get involved with guys like this aren't 'normal' - but at the very least their thinking isn't normal.

@ImJustMadAboutSaffron
I knew you were referring to ZC.
That's why I left a big gap in my post.

urgen · 11/08/2022 16:44

I know that someone will jump in and say they are women with low self esteem or self worth but that cannot cover all of them. If I was kind I would say that they thought they could change him and he would be different with them but I dont think that is it at all (I really think they saw an opportunity and grabbed it). It then didnt work out so all of this happens.

I am not excusing him at all btw. But there were two people involved in all of these affairs and bed hopping or whatever you would like to call it. His brother's wife - now what was her thinking behind all of this for years on end....

LuluBlakey1 · 11/08/2022 16:45

I have thought for years now that he is scummy and vile. I can't even bear to look at him. From everything I have ever read about him, I find him repulsive in every way.

MarshaMelrose · 11/08/2022 16:45

Allegedly it's "bashing women".

I read people saying that but I don't get it. Women surely have some responsibility for their actions. If a husband of someone on MN does the dirty, I don't see MNers queuing up to say, leave him alone. He might have had an abusive girlfriend once so cut him a break.

If a woman gets involved with a guy who seems nice, no shady past that they know of, not married etc and then discovers all sorts of stuff, I have huge sympathy. If they discover it and don't leave, I have less sympathy but I do understand how that can happen. But when a woman, not a young woman either, deliberately decides to have an affair with someone who has a scuzzy, untrustworthy, nasty background and who is married, then my sympathy is low. And then for her to cheat on her own husband and know that he's cheating on his wife when he's already completely humiliated her and promised thinggs will change, then at that point, I'm struggling to understand why I should have any sympathy at all.
All that is completely separate form any violence, though. Total sympathy if that happened to her.

LuluBlakey1 · 11/08/2022 16:46

The women are all pathetic creatures who gain their status from the attention they attract from men like him.

Exactly. No accounting for some Mumsnetters' logic.

He looks riddled.

LydiaBennetsUglyBonnet · 11/08/2022 18:58

I agree it’s hard to sympathise with Kate Grenville. She seems to be a proud homewrecker with no consideration of how all the children involved are affected. His DD found out about their affair through a valentines card FFS.

A lot of the stories are also a bit dodgy. When asked for evidence of abuse and pictures of Brunei sea she said her phone fell into the sea (where have we heard that before) and another was stolen. She claimed he blackmailed her with a sex tape but actually it was a tape of her singing a Wham song.

Don’t get me wrong, RG is a certified scumbag. A real nasty fucker. BUT that has been highly publicised for quite some time. No sympathy for any idiot who falls at his feet. I doubt they’d look at him twice if he weren’t loaded.

LydiaBennetsUglyBonnet · 11/08/2022 19:01

I also do not like this infantilising “Women are always controlled if they’re in a relationship with a scumbag”. We need to recognise women are not all innocent naive creatures - some are well aware of the choices they make. We do ourselves no favours to pretend we are perpetual victims

whatsthestory123 · 11/08/2022 19:44

im sure the current GF was having it away with him when he was with kate
he seems to make the mistress GF in time

It is astonishing and very depressing that women would queue up to be with him after his track record. He's the lowest of the low - not just a serial cheater but something very dark. Money and celebrity clearly gives him so much opportunity to repeat himself. He has a personality defect that hides behind apparently being a womaniser with a deep hatred for women that comes out in controlling abuse and violence. It's very dangerous and psychopathic. No empathy.

I hope he gets sent down and learns he can't act with impunity and destroy womens lives.

I think we should be very careful what we say during a live case. We know he's a serial cheater. Nothing else is proven.

Clarabe1 · 11/08/2022 20:52

its a puzzler isn’t it? I mean what woman could possibly guess that embarking on an affair with a man who shagged his brothers wife for 10 years would be an indication of his character? Sorry but any woman who gets involved with him is an idiot and I have no sympathy for them at all.

Not me OP! I think some of the women he had flings and affairs with need to question why they did it?

If it was Barry who works in the chippy with the same background of cheating and abuse, no woman would give him the time of day.

Horrible excuse for a man

** fallen of not called off 🤦🏻‍♀️

RustySwitchblade · 15/08/2022 14:36

I don’t think your post is victim blaming at all!

Women need to take some accountability for thinking it’s ok to be involved with someone with his past and history. we are not children.

It in no way excuses his behaviour towards the women, but it does show up the mentality that some women think they can change these creeps.

im a feminist. The way we deal with DV cases is misogynistic. but I don’t think that means women aren’t capable of being blinded by the prospect of fame and wealth.

Penguinsaregreat · 15/08/2022 17:38

The fact remains he has been charged with assaulting 2 adults.
If he has done that then he needs punishing regardless of anything else whatsoever.

LadyEloise1 · 31/08/2022 15:38

The jury has been discharged after failing to reach a verdict.

HairyToity · 31/08/2022 15:58

Does that mean Kate Greville has to prosecute Ryan Giggs all over again, and bring him back into court, so that a new jury can hear all the details again. Sounds costly.
