... to think you wouldn't touch Ryan Giggs with a bargepole?

"Giggs found love again with lingerie model, Zara Charles, 33, who has 'supported' him through the charges."

I don't want to get into the legalities of the ongoing case, but what normal woman would knowingly get involved with the likes of him?

Hopefully she's seen an opportunity to make loads of money from the divorce and has herself well protected.

Who, Stacey? She's moved on years ago and didn't make money, just got on with life.

OMG, this thread is vile. Somehow all of Giggs hideousness is down to the women who "let" it happen.

He's controlling and coercive. That's why it happens!

CanaryShoulderedThorn · 11/08/2022 08:49

I feel so sorry for his daughter. No young woman should have to witness her father behave so appallingly.

I am gobsmacked if this is true.

I don't know about mum but dad has publically said he's ashamed of Ryan and said he "can't even bring myself to use his name"

Parents are long separated though.

Utter nonsense. Giggs was born in Wales, to Welsh parents (both, btw, so 'loyalty to his mother' is especially baffling) and he wasn't eligible to play for England - certainly at the time he first began to play internationally, and even then once the rules changed, precisely because he'd already played for Wales. Super-fucking-weird, at any rate, to infer that he's a good bloke based on that ^ even if it were true.

That's not true. He lived in England from 6yo, he was qualified to play for England, in fact he did play for England as a youngster. I've no idea why he made the switch, but he was definitely qualified.

My original post was not about that. I asked why Zara Charles, 15 years younger than him, who cannot be unaware of how he cheated on his wife with Imogen Thomas, shagged his sister in law for years, found himself in court because of his behaviour towards Kate Greville, would knowingly get involved with him. So many red flags. If it was Barry who works in the chippy who had done these things, no woman would give him the time of day.

The only person to blame for his behaviour is Ryan Giggs himself. My post asked why, when that is blatantly obvious from the press (and that is only the instances we know about) someone would "support" him.

I was asking about Zara Charles, not criticising Kate or Stacey. Imogen and Natasha, I have no time for, they knew he was married so should have avoided him.

@PerfectRun You’re right - he played for England schoolboys with a lad from my brother’s class.

You don't think it's possible/likely that she's being controlled and coerced also?

No, not when we can all bash a woman.

Yes, he captained the side a number of times, including a 4-0 defeat of Wales 😆

'That's not true. He lived in England from 6yo, he was qualified to play for England, in fact he did play for England as a youngster. I've no idea why he made the switch, but he was definitely qualified.'

Nope.

'Born in Cardiff to Welsh parents, Giggs represented Wales at international level. As a youngster, Giggs captained England Schoolboys, but contrary to popular belief, he was never eligible for the senior England team (eligibility at the schoolboy level depends solely upon the location of the school, in Giggs' case Moorside High School in Salford). In October 2009, new rules were introduced for the Home Nations' associations that would have enabled Giggs to represent England had he not already represented Wales in an official competition.'

Of course it's possible, within a relationship that you are already a part of. But knowing what he was like, and choosing to embark on even a date with a character with that back story is questionable. You can only be controlled and coerced once you have taken that step to get involved with someone. And this is not meeting some random in a bar or on a dating site who you don't know from Adam. It's a public figure with a very questionable past that is common knowledge before he even buys you a drink.

This is not 'bashing' anyone. It's a simple question. I'd ask the same if it were hypothetical. Of course, it is possible that Zara had no idea who he was (rather like when Meghan met Harry, she had no clue who he was) and was impressed with the charming side of him. But then, if I was chatted up in a bar or introduced to someone and asked out, and I didn't know him, I'd Google him.

@PerfectRun How about looking at it from the angle of encouraging women to strengthen their boundaries, rather than "bashing"?

He sounds like a lovely man 🤮

ImJustMadAboutSaffron · 11/08/2022 11:53

Ryan Giggs's former girlfriend has told the court that the former footballer "conditioned" her into sending "instant" messages to each other, and that suspicions arose when either failed to respond "within seconds".

Kate Greville said that Mr Giggs had "conditioned me into behaving like that because he was like that". "I would then go; 'Because you expect me to reply within seconds, so why do you not reply within seconds?'. That's when I would get upset, so I would do it back to him," she told the court.

It’s not “super fucking weird” of me. Everyone has known he’s a bad person for a long time now. The super injunction was ages a go. We’re talking about a time when he was a professional footballer in his 20s before most people had the internet. Pre- gossip on social media. Pre- Wikipedia. Pre any of it. I heard it by various people how he was some kind of “honourable” man for playing for Wales. I’m sure it was bollocks but that’s what was discussed.
It was even referenced on Gavin and Stacey so I’m clearly not making this up. (Smithy talking his baby - “you’ll play for England when you’re older. Not like Ryan Giggs. You’ll kick yourself”. Something like that).

He wasn't even honourable for Wales. Always refused to play friendlies, too busy and important to play what are essentially training matches with the team.

Yeah, how about it OP? How did the 'boundaries' narrative underpin your posts above where you drew complete equivalnce between the abuser and the abused?

Your backtracking isn't great.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 11/08/2022 15:16

Totally agree that Giggs alone is responsible for his behaviour. He’s a 48 year old adult, who else would be to blame?

Fair enough to say “I wouldn’t touch him with a barge pole”, which is a well know manner of speaking. Some have come on here victim blaming but wouldn’t say that of the OP.

Re the England/ Wales thing, my understanding was he could play for a England schoolboys as he went to school in England. So rules are different. Giggs himself had said he was not eligible to play for England, so wasn’t a matter of choice according to him.

Sceptre86 · 11/08/2022 15:44

He's a millionaire and a well known and liked sportsman, that's why. Some women will have sex with any male because he's rich and famous regardless of his past behaviour.

I agree with I'mJustMadAboutSaffron when she writes "..... But knowing what he was like and choosing to embark on even a date with a character with that back story is questionable......."

Kate Greville was married and knew Ryan Giggs was married. Sad

I was more referring to Zara Charles, who had less reason to get mixed up with him as this Kate Greville incident was out there by the time she met him. But yes, I see your point.

Ryan Giggs is a scummy scuzzball. But I don't know why I should feel sympathy for Kate Greville. She was 28 when she met him so not a child. She was a pr executive so she knew l about Ryan Giggs' sordid background. She'd only been married 2 years when she started cheating on her alleged controlling husband. She knew Giggs was married, had cheated before and that his wife and children had been humiliated multiple times. And yet she decided to pursue a relationship with him which she knew would hurt all three of them.

If Giggs assaulted her, then the court will make a judgement and hand out punishment. That's totally on him and Kate Greville is not responsible for that. But I'm still unsure why we give cheating adult women a pass on adultery in a way we would never do to men.
