Sat outside a lovely cafe by the canal in the sun, lovely except for the wafting of some ladies cigarette smoke across the table. i probably am a bit unreasonable but I just hate smoke when eating. Seems a shame that to enjoy outdoor dining I need to suffer smokers second hand smoke. So...

YABU - Suck that second hand smoke up
YANBU - There should be no smoking where food is being enjoyed outdoors

I think it's probably best if all the vile stinky people stay indoors or in their own properties at least..

Theres those of you who wear so much aftershave, perfume or heavily scented clothing, makes my eyes water and gives me a headache, ugh, vile people.

Then theres the stinky smokers, bleurgh.

Nasty nasty vapers with their horrible sickly sweet pongs, going around smelling like cake the bastards..

What about the half naked red faced sweaty blokes ponging everywhere up any time theres a hint of a nice day.

Then all those bulging nappy-waddling kids smearing their disgusting sticky paws everywhere and stinking of piss and shit.

Then theres DOGS.. ugh, honking up the place with their disgusting doggy odours..

Cats are RIGHT out, they shit everywhere and piss up stuff...

Car drivers spread their vile fumes everywhere and those driving electric cars are not exempt as much as they'd like to think they are, as electricity still needs producing and we're only at around 50% clean electricity, but in any case making and disposing of batteries for them is not clean either.

Btw smokers generate around 11.5 billion quids worth of tax in the UK alone, I can't find out the figures for how much the overly perfumed or the BO sweatybetties generate.

All humans are VILE and should stay in.

HelloAllll · 08/08/2022 20:40

I would be happy if smoking (and vaping) was banned everywhere apart from a persons own home - its antisocial and repulsive for everyone else

I think we have found a smoker here 😂

Except it isn’t. I don’t smoke but I love the smell. 🤷‍♀️

Horatioshelmet · 08/08/2022 20:45

I find feral kids more annoying than smokers in a public space. More annoying.

AndreaC74 · 08/08/2022 20:53

Smoking, like BBQ's outdoors, should be banned because of the fire risk they cause.
Once they get used to not smoking around all us more sensible and healthier folk, they'll forget they ever used to be allowed too.... Much like the indoor ban...

Only a matter of time.

vodkaredbullgirl · 08/08/2022 20:57

goes outside for a smoke

I’m not a smoker, but I’m in no position to tell, others how they should live.
that’s it!
what makes you think you are so far superior that you can tell others how they live?

No one's telling others how they should live. If they want to smoke themselves to death, that's their business. If they want to fobs while forcing other people to inhale their second hand smoke, and have it blown across their food, then it's our business.

Some smokers are rude, inconsiderate and determined to stubbornly ignore the fact that they are pissing everyone else off with their stinking, intrusive addiction.

houseonthehill · 08/08/2022 21:11

It's nice on these long warm evenings... chatter, fragrant tobacco smoke on the breeze...

houseonthehill · 08/08/2022 21:17

...you fairweather fuckers are welcome to join us. But no whinging.

Q2C4 · 08/08/2022 21:21

YANBU - any sort of smoke in recreational areas inc fire pits, bonfires etc should also be banned.

CapMarvel · 08/08/2022 21:25

Blossomtoes · 08/08/2022 19:03

Presumably you’d be happy with your income tax going up to replace the lost revenue?

The costs of smoking to the ecomony - the direct cost to the NHS, indirect costs of smokers being less productive etc - far outweigh the tax income.

Just so you know.

Redbone · 08/08/2022 21:26

YANBU I just hate those selfish arses who insist on smoking in outdoor dining areas. In my experience they often have young children with them too.

You're not going to the "right" places are you?

You might prefer to be with those who take a line or two or a drink or four in front of their kids. No smell nothing to see here. LOL.

Cherrysherbet · 08/08/2022 21:49

YANBU.

It’s disgusting 🤢

RagingWoke · 08/08/2022 21:52

Genuine question for the posters offended by smokers. What did you do before it was banned indoors? Did you ever go to a pub or restaurant with smoking areas?

Branleuse · 08/08/2022 22:22

I dont like the smell of smoke, but theres loads of things i dont like the smell of. People still have to have freedom. Its outdoors fgs

lamest argument ever 🙄

But it is only this time of the year that you see people on mn kicking off about this and the other 10 or 11 months it is forgotten about. So while you may call it lame, it doesn't make it less true.

TeapotTitties · 08/08/2022 23:29

Yeah that's true to be fair.

Also, all those saying smokers should only be allowed to smoke in their own homes, seem to have missed all the threads from people saying the stench of fag smoke from next door, is permeating the air in their homes.

Although playing devil's advocate for a moment, I don't think I've ever seen a thread complaining about cooking smells from next door doing the same thing.

round of applause Nope.

MrsTerryPratchett · 09/08/2022 01:50

I don't smoke, I don't care.

Vaping can be consigned to hell though.
