To ask if this is usual for a wedding?

To seat guests at tables depending on the quality of wedding gifts (higher/more wanted the gift, the better the table) and divide into Gold, Silver and Bronze statuses? (Without telling the guests, obviously).

No, no it’s not. Is this your wedding? If so stop being ridiculous and seat people according to who they’re likely to get on with

Pottedpalm · 06/08/2022 21:21

yeah, great idea. Go for it!

biggreenhouse · 06/08/2022 21:22

why would you do that? what's the aim?

PuffinMcStuffin · 06/08/2022 21:22

Umm no, it's fucking weird, why?

Northernsouloldies · 06/08/2022 21:22

That is utterly shallow and contemptible to even think up such a scenario.

SleepingStandingUp · 06/08/2022 21:22

Who knows what gifts they're getting from people until after the event tho?

MammaWeasel · 06/08/2022 21:23

Surely you wouldn't know the value of the wedding gift until after the reception?

Whatsthestoryboringglory · 06/08/2022 21:23

The title of this implies it isn’t your wedding. I’m interested in the back story on this one.

chocolatepudandchocolatesauce · 06/08/2022 21:23

How would you know what gift was given before the wedding?

Ontomatopea · 06/08/2022 21:23

How does that work?

AllFreeOwls · 06/08/2022 21:23

I think that is pretty unusual. A guest is a guest regardless of the monetary value they bring.

Maybeebebe · 06/08/2022 21:23

Agreed

DameMargaretofChalfont · 06/08/2022 21:23

Surely you don't know what gifts have been sent until after the wedding!!

The schematics of your post are bloody bonkers and distasteful.

Welshgal85 · 06/08/2022 21:24

What?! Umm no! 😂 sounds pretty odd tbh. Usually people are sat with people they know.

Also, how would you know in advance what gifts people have bought?

badbaduncle · 06/08/2022 21:24

Starbest idea ever

Hellodarknessmyoldpal · 06/08/2022 21:24

How would they know what they got from each guest at the time of doing the table plans?

PhoneyM · 06/08/2022 21:24

Ooh like the wedding hunger games.

SleepingStandingUp · 06/08/2022 21:25

Also the faux nativity threads drive me potty. Do you actually think @AspireMe that most people receive their gifts in advance, open them, list them in order of value and then do place settings? Have you ever been to a wedding or saw one on telly? What is your instinct on how you'd do seating and if it's "people I love most, closest" why do you assume everyone else is demanding to know what presents they have so they can sort the seating plan?

blueskyeve · 06/08/2022 21:26

Of course it's not usual. Ridiculous. You know this is not the norm don't you?

Mardyface · 06/08/2022 21:27

What's the incentive if you're not telling the guests? You should be advertising them as the 'bronze package' (toast rack) or 'gold package' (hot tub). Otherwise you'll just get 30 duplicate salad spoons.

(Not usual, no).

Is this a bizarre wedding you've been to?

HerRoyalNotness · 06/08/2022 21:30

Are you in the US? I think it is common there to receive the gift before the wedding day.

Irridescantshimmmer · 06/08/2022 21:30

Thats corrupted.

saltinesandcoffeecups · 06/08/2022 21:33

I think this should totally be the way forward for weddings. I’d also consider a fast pass like Disney for the Bar and Buffet. If it’s going to be done, you need a way for the guests who bring checks to the wedding to get in on the action. A live updated tally board perhaps?

CurzonDax · 06/08/2022 21:37

I want to know what the differences between the bronze, silver, and gold statuses are.

But seriously, no - it's not usual, not nice, and I wouldn't recommend it.
