To ask if this is usual for a wedding?

To seat guests at tables depending on the quality of wedding gifts (higher/more wanted the gift, the better the table) and divide into Gold, Silver and Bronze statuses? (Without telling the guests, obviously).

Yea sure. Cool story.

ithoughtitmihtbenicetochat · 06/08/2022 22:03

The logistics would baffle me.
The bigger the present the better the meal, the more free booze? What?

There was a don't tell the bride where one half had a paupers meal and the other were spoiled. But that was after losing a game.

This just sounds mental. I'd deliberately give something very odd as a gift just to see how I was scored.

diddl · 06/08/2022 22:06

What a load of bollocks!

StoneofDestiny · 06/08/2022 22:07

Just as some of us were thinking weddings couldn't get more insane than some already are.........

ChateauMargaux · 06/08/2022 22:11

Presents won't be given until the day itself and not usually opened until later.. so no one would have this information in time for seating arrangements.

FlipFlopShopInHawaii · 06/08/2022 22:16

I really want to know how this would work? Most presents surely are only given on the day.

Maybe guests will need references from past weddings?

Thirdsummerofourdiscontent · 06/08/2022 22:17

Holy fuck no, this is all kids of awful. Hopefully they let eve know in advance so they can opt out of going.

Dontcareforthehaters · 06/08/2022 22:21

What an utterly horrible suggestion I don't even understand the logic behind this oddball, shallow idea.

If I did this at my wedding this would mean that my elderly grandparents would be seated at the back.

Mumandcarer · 06/08/2022 22:21

I’ve never heard of this. The seating plan is done months in advance of the wedding. Even my newborn daughter in her pram had a place at my brothers wedding.

I’m not sure how they could plan in advance. It’s also a bit nasty not everyone can afford an expensive gift. Especially after they had to buy something to wear and travel costs.

CheshireCat1 · 06/08/2022 22:23

Sad, very very sad.

lizzielizard · 06/08/2022 22:24

It's a brilliant idea - that'll sort the wheat from the chaff. Hope they serve Bolly to the big hitters and Asti to the matching teatowel and oven glove brigade. People need to know their value and station.

bigbeautifulmonster · 06/08/2022 22:25

We do this at Christmas 😂

CharlotteSt · 06/08/2022 22:27

How would they know? We don't give gifts (cash these days) until the day?

shiningstar2 · 06/08/2022 22:28

🤣🤣🤣🤣 surely this is a joke 🤣🤣

Bimblybomeyelash · 06/08/2022 22:29

Wow what an amazing story. Incredible. Unbelievable.

saltwaterandsuncream · 06/08/2022 22:29

Cool story,bro.

Also - you wouldn't know what the girt was until after the wedding.

I did see an invitation where people had different menus depending on their gift but was unsure how they could have all this information by the day of the wedding?

It’s vulgar.

Great idea! Were the tables segregated? Or did those on the bread-and-water menu get a chance to sit next to someone on the caviar menu and nick bits off their plate?

finished31 · 06/08/2022 22:41

Oh my days!

Does that mean if you get a Gold spot your served caviar and Bronze spam?

Seriously it's rude and grabby

Tilly10too · 06/08/2022 22:43

This is the most insane idea I've ever heard. Your oldest friend who is strapped for cash but has handnmade a thoughtful and unique present gets seated by the loos, while the rich aunt you can't stand but gave you a set of golden fish knives gets a place of honor? This is pathetic, and cannot possibly be real thing.

Mumandcarer · 06/08/2022 22:46

^This^

godmum56 · 06/08/2022 22:47

don't mind me I am just here for the popcorn

Sunnytwobridges · 06/08/2022 22:48

WTAF?!?!

exnewwifeproblems · 06/08/2022 22:48

Omg that's horrendous.

And what do you do with people who turn up with presents on the day?

Kedece2410 · 06/08/2022 22:52

ChateauMargaux · 06/08/2022 22:11

I've never given a wedding present on the day & I've never seen many presents at a wedding. Theyre usually given well in advance

I dont understand the better tables idea though. What do you get at a gold table that you don't get at a bronze one
