What’s the most batshit belief you’ve ever known someone to hold

just met up with a long time friend (lovely, but utterly away with the fairies) who honestly believes the earth is flat as well as a whole host of other similarly crazy things. It got me thinking what’s the most batshit thing you’ve ever known anyone to think?

In fact the first post in the whole thread in which the phrase "trans people" appeared was your post just there. And yes I did check.

If people say "X is batshit" and then someone attacks them for it without having any defence for X, of course they're going to discuss this attempt to shut them down, which is part of the issue. If someone says we're "just posting ‘trans people’ over and over again" and that's untrue, then of course we're going to point out it's untrue.

Then it's all "ooh you're obsessed and don't talk about anything else"

Agree the genderwoo beliefs are just mindblowing to me. My trans relative is always banging on about how it’s fine for TW to be in women’s sports, prisons, wards etc because “cis” women hurt each other, eg in rugby or fights, therefore the risk of greater injury / attack is unimportant. It’s like saying cats can attack each other, therefore there’s no difference if you set dogs on them. It just makes no sense but it’s always said with this smug self-righteousness and you can’t argue because transphobia.

i can’t understand how people can’t see that if they won’t debate a point and defend it, and go through the reasons they think that thing, then it’s not very convincing and they have no business demanding that others believe it too. It’s not just the belief itself, but the bizarre way it’s based on nothing but sophistry. Why do you believe something you clearly know is bollocks because you’re not prepared to debate it?

Says it all, really. You're just going to have to accept that many people find gender identity ideology equally as batshit as the Queen being a lizard or whatever.

you can post the same thing over and over if you like. Others are free to post that they find the fixation wearing and, at times, a bit disturbing

It's an interesting and important topic, and something I'd like to engage with in discussions and understand different points of view - but its just so OTT on MN and it really puts me off. Ranting does not magically convert people to your cause, it makes them back away. I have a similar issue with someone at work. Basically we are both 'green' but she goes on and on in a hectoring tone so much even I (preaching to converted) am bored. She was same with Brexit.

The first post was political, then there have been many political posts since. Why is just that can't change sex posts that are derailing?

That voting for Brexit was a good idea and even then even worse stubbornly refusing to now admit it was a dumb idea rather than admit they were wrong / conned / lied to.

To be fair, as far as I can see people have posted ‘that humans can change sex’ repeatedly.

And that view is held by many non trans ‘allies’ as well as trans people. All the people who have lectured me on TW are biological women are not trans.

So criticising the belief as batshit is hardly a repeated criticism of trans people, specifically.

Exactly. If anyone wants to talk about Labour or the Tories or Scottish Independence or climate change or covid that's fine by me. There are lots of batshit beliefs in the world and it's a matter of perspective.
