What’s the most batshit belief you’ve ever known someone to hold

just met up with a long time friend (lovely, but utterly away with the fairies) who honestly believes the earth is flat as well as a whole host of other similarly crazy things. It got me thinking what’s the most batshit thing you’ve ever known anyone to think?

Thanks for the correction @DonateBloodNCheckSmokeAlarms . I am changing my vote to the belief that the earth is 6,000 years old.

(FWIW my mother also believed this, got a Labrador to lick her arm where it had caught on some barbed wire and ended up having to have an unusual type of antibiotic because she got an infection rarely seen in humans).

Used to work with someone that believed in fairies.

lots of people seem to hold the view that everything that will ever be discovered has been already see claims about anything remotely supernatural. They assert their beliefs with such certainty too

But that's a really unpleasant misrepresentation. If people were posting slurs about "trans people" as a class, I'd object to that as would most of us. That's not what's happening. They're pointing out that certain beliefs - which are definitely not help by all trans people as a class - are baseless. it's a totally different thing.

And I, for one, am not anti-trans and do not think trans people en masse are batshit.

I think people who argue mammals can change sex are batshit.

And my trans friends (the trans man spouse of my lesbian friend, a colleague, and a former neighbour I sometimes drink with) do not believe it either.

And think it batshit that people are losing their jobs and being arrested for saying so.

But Doubtless GeorgeCat1, in another century, if we dared say that the most batshit belief we heard was that women who could float /swim were witches and should be burnt at the stake was not funny / lighthearted enough for you.

The thread is about people who believe stuff that's batshjt. One than one person has stated people who believe that humans can change sex are batshit. Hardly an 'irrelevant place' given that's the topic of the thread.

You can't prove God doesn't exist the same way they can't prove God does exist.
Get an education - not just what's in your curriculum.

I had a colleague (a real, live adult) who believed she was a fairy. She was part of a group who went on fairy retreats together and everything.

Others:

• That eating poppyseed bread while pregnant will mean your baby will be born with an opium addiction (ex-SIL).
• That humans can change sex because parrot fish do it (Twitter)
• That completing visualisation exercises will heal a broken leg (life coach)

That some people are “born in the wrong body”, like some kind of sorting hat has gone wrong & put the wrong soul in the wrong meat sack.

As a follow on from this, such people think some men have a special inner feeling that makes them women, and therefore totally harmless.

Even more batshit, that some children who the sorting hat has got wrong need drugs & surgery to correct the sorting hat’s error. Even though the sorting hat has only recently started to get this wrong in large numbers, anyone who questions the correctness of sterilising & mutilating children is a bigot.

Why don’t you just post the word ‘trans’? We all know what you mean, and it’ll save you typing it all out again.

I am not anti trans. I do believe this though as stated by a lovely PP -
