Not really my AIBU, but whilst it was quite amusing for 10 minutes the mexican stand off outside my house is starting to do my head in

Live in a small village, with small lanes, our lane is pretty narrow but the only straight one that the farmers can use to access the fields at the bottom.

The two farmers who own the land are two brothers who fell out when their parents died years ago, and have not spoken since.

Brother A coming up the lane with his combine. Brother B coming down the lane with his tractor and trailer, neither will reverse to allow the other to pass, this has now been 20 minutes and all I can hear is horns beeping, and the farmers shouting insults at each other via a third party (one of our neighbours) cars are having to reverse back onto the village green and access via another lane.

Update, just taken the dog out and usually walk with the lady and her dog who is joined onto to Brother A (was actually the original farmhouse but they chopped it in two, costing them thousands and had half each, and Brother B sold his half to get away.)

Apparently the combine was returned to the farm, (am guessing tractor and trailer got returned to the other) Brother actually arrived home about 11pm absolutely livid, screaming and shouting that he had to go back to the police station to retrieve his keys today and they should have impounded other brothers tractor and trailer as he was in the right, she said it went on for a couple of hours with him plotting all sorts of revenge, as other brother was told to arrive an hour earlier to get his keys. Final outcry was he is not providing the hay bales for seating for the village show on Saturday as he will be too busy trying catch up on harvesting!!

My neighbour has had her phone sorted, apparently the blokes boss really felt for her as it was not her fault, and arranged an emergency appointment for her today, can just imagine engineer explaining to boss why he could not complete that job but I did see him taking pictures.

Am pretty sure this fued is only going to get worse but on the plus side the pub did a roaring trade on food last night as everyone was too busy watching the drama to cook.

Are you a close village? This seems like a waste of lives.couldn’t you as a family or village come together and help them sort things,or at least facilitate a talk.to have their brother so close, and or to share a farm or life with in the way they could is something most people could only wish for.and if one gets sick or dies they will really regret this fueding.

They have been fueding for years the older residents tried it years ago and never happened and tbf the village is sick of them both especially after yesterday and would rather spend my time on my family rather than them idiots

Get your kids farm set out and play along with them

quicklybeendrivenmad · 04/08/2022 19:27

They are girls and to old for it, but did get excited when one post suggested I take their toys away cos they thought they might get a combine tractor and trailer might order toy ones and make it an exhibition at the village show this weekend thanks for the idea x

I would start filming their feud and make a YouTube channel about it

tkwal · 04/08/2022 19:56

Unless these are ultra modern machines, most tractors etc can be started by any other tractor/combine generic key. (Which is why so many get stolen) so one of the brothers "losing" his key wouldn't be important

Morgysmum · 04/08/2022 20:00

Sorry, but this isn't going to change anytime soon.
I am a farmers daughter, they are different breed and completely stubborn buggers.
Brothers who don't get one, neither one will want to back down to his brother, that is a sign of weakness. Its a pain with narrow lanes and no passing points.
You will just have to cope with it sorry.

CountryMouse22 · 04/08/2022 20:10

Not read whole thread (yet) but someone should be out filming this. It might shame them into action!

mycatisannoying · 04/08/2022 20:14

Silly pair of buggers.

CactusBlossom · 04/08/2022 20:24

Surely something for a local news channel! I bet you could sell tickets to watch this!

CountryMouse22 · 04/08/2022 20:37

TheHorrorOfIt · 03/08/2022 20:00

Yes same here! They all drive a bit too fast (and shed hay everywhere) but it is understood they are often racing against time in good weather…

I love the sound of combines working at night. You can hear them chugging in the distance. So comforting, for me if not for the farmer!

Jetstream · 04/08/2022 20:43

Huh I live in a village and we don’t have this. Too much competition especially between siblings.

quicklybeendrivenmad · 04/08/2022 20:48

@Muezza I would film but too outing just about the whole village are OAP's taken me years to get accepted just for living here and do not get me started on the fued with the rival village where other one lives) who have now taken our villages name and moved boundaries btf I do love my house and living here even as an incomer after all these years, just gone mad this week and cannot see it getting any better going to leave at least one car at pub or village green for forseeable

I can totally relate to this unfortunately. Dealing with two "factions" associated with the same farm where all has irretrievably broken down (not these two; mine aren't related) - the passive-aggressive nonsense and petty spite that goes on is unbelievable. Exactly as @Morgysmum says, it's hard to believe unless you've encountered it.

It really is like two toddlers squabbling at playgroup. Without the justification that they're toddlers and don't know any better (and will hopefully improve with age and reason).

"My" situation is so bizarre and poisonous that it could almost be amusing if there weren't innocent people (and livestock) caught in the middle of it all.

But thank you for sharing @quicklybeendrivenmad; all very interesting to see what goes on elsewhere and how it all played out. I feel for the poor Policemen (and you and your neighbours). 🙄

I'd be inclined to keep my windows closed for the next day or two - I'd put money on one of them having their crops "catch fire in the heatwave" before too long...

Best wishes to you.

Sounds like the road outside our school at drop off and pick up! 😂 Every morning there is a stand off, person A won't (most likely can't) reverse their car up the double parked lane, person B refuses to pull in to space in front or reverse into space behind. Before long the whole lane is blocked and pedestrians are trying to make someone move. I've usually walked down, dropped off, had a chat and walked back and they are still sat there. Every bloomin day!!

So I feel your pain - its stupid and pathetic. People that won't give way are childish twats with nothing better to do than try and pull rank and waste everyone's time.

Harvesting spats can take over during the school summer holidays from the school gate spats, I really missed those during lockdown!

quicklybeendrivenmad · 03/08/2022 16:46

@ProfessorSlocombe there is some but most so old they could not even make it into the cab the rest of us would not have a clue and turns out the combine can cost about £200k plus extras and same for the tractor and trailer who knew it cost so much

The big combines we get on farms here are closer to a million of our dollars or £750/850K then 200K. I was wondering how a lane could possibly fit a big combine down. This one's a relative baby compared to the big ones.

VestaTilley · 04/08/2022 22:25

Sounds like an episode of the Archers 😂 sorry, OP!

Village show you say...? Can't you enter a cake for the cake show and top it with a combine and a tractor?

Offer them a brew and a biscuit like a child. Remind them to blow on it so they don't burn their tongues 😂
