Bit of Filler... husband furious!

Bonnie7 · 02/08/2022 22:37

Aibu?

Went for my 6 monthly Botox treat today and decided to have a tiny bit of filler in my lips.
They are currently swollen and look bigger than they will in a few days - but by no means a trout pout!
Well my husband and eldest child have gone absolutely mad at me. They can barely look at me!
They are furious!
I can't believe my appearance causes them so much anguish when they barely look at me in normal circs!
Said I look like I'm off TOWIE trying to be 20 and ridiculous...
Husband is really really cross. I feel like I'm 15 again!
I by the way, love it!
Just turned 50 and have 4 kids...

I just felt like looking after me and trying something new.
Aibu - it's up to me? My face, my choice?!?

I have read the beauty myth by Naomi Wolf and i agree with her in some ways but it's not a myth is it? Every culture has it's own definition of beauty...some tribes lengthen their necks with metal hoops, others get facial tattoos and piercings, the western ideal is to focus on youth... fecundity is attractive in general and fillers give that illusion.

BOOTS52PollyPrissyPants · 03/08/2022 22:02

Floofboop Your lips look gorgeous and very natural.

gamerchick · 03/08/2022 22:10

I read it as fillet. Was curious see why someone would be furious about fish. Bit disappointed now.

OP it doesn't matter what he thinks. As long as you like it.

Tbh I'd be pretty freaked out if my partner suddenly turned up having had something like that done without mentioning it!

Oh shut up.

Sad really because it’s done for men

Biggest load of bullshit I have ever heard in my life😂

The biggest load of bollocks ever is that “I’m doing it for me”.

Blatantly lips are done because (the victim) thinks it’s sexy. Just like a lot of stuff we do. I have no qualms admitting it - I don’t wear mini skirts “for me”. I wear them because I have great legs and I enjoy feeling attractive. It’s fun.

Stop lying.

@milkyaqua

OP obviously means she feels 15 because she's being treated like a told off child by her husband, not because she wants to look 15...

I don't care what she means. She said she felt like she was 15, and then claimed she had never said she felt like she was 15, and I was pointing out she clearly said in her opening post she felt like she was 15!

While I’m sure some people do get it to make themselves better for men, I genuinely did get my filler for myself. The biggest reason being my smile, I HATED smiling or laughing and would never ever allow a picture of me smiling to see the light of day. I also like how fillers made me look older, I know some people get them to stay looking young but I was in my mid 20s looking 15 so having fuller lips made me look closer to my actual age. 😂
I wasn’t full of self hatred, I always liked how I looked otherwise and thought I was actually quite attractive, I just wanted to feel more confident and not hate smiling!!

Im sure some people don’t like how my lips look and say they were better before just because of the fact I’ve had filler but I like them and they give me a bit of confidence that I lacked before so does it matter what others think?

Your filled lips are radically different, and it looks like a completely different person.

That style of super-plump lips is cloned on so many women who have fillers, and I think it's really sad that lots of women are just looking like an army of identikit copies. I'm so sorry, but if I'm being honest I just don't like the artificial "pumped up" look..

But - and it's a huge but. My opinion doesn't matter. Just because I detest lip fillers doesn't mean that everyone has to agree. Clearly there are lots of women who like lip fillers of all sizes - there's plenty here on this thread.

If you like how your lip filler looks then that's brilliant. That's all that matters. I'm delighted that your fillers gave you more self-confidence.

And just in case this doesn't translate well in writing, I'm being completely genuine. If anyone gets cosmetic treatment of ANY kind and is happy with the result, then that's all that matters. There's no need for the two different perspectives to bash each other - I don't like fillers but if you like the look of fillers and want to get it done, then that's your prerogative. It's none of my business what you do to your face whether it's make-up, fillers, surgery or whatever.

TeapotTitties · 04/08/2022 00:52

There's not a single pair of filled lips on this thread that don't look like swollen, filled lips.

That's not to say they all look awful, but not a single pair look natural so I don't understand how some people have managed to convince themselves that they do.

It's like fake tan, it looks exactly as it says on the tin - fake but again, that doesn't mean it looks awful but you'd have to be blind to think it looks like a natural tan from the sun.

milkyaqua · 04/08/2022 01:06

It's going to be interesting when all the Your Face, Your Choice mothers on this thread encounter their offspring with large spiderweb tattoos on their faces, black tattooed sclera, stretched ears, or horns implanted in their foreheads...

Abraxan · 04/08/2022 02:17

Really? How do they look sore ? They look like normal natural lips.

On the final two pictures in that first image post the upper lips both are red above the lips - they aren't in the 'before' pictures. This makes the lips look sore. You can't tell in the side picture but definitely can in the other two.

It’s a bit “one opinion for all” on this topic.

The elephant in the room is a lot of people laugh at these injected lips, particularly men. Sad really because it’s done for men although this will never be admitted. Those getting the lips think it’s sexy; “I did it for me” is the biggest load of bullshit ever.

If the men you hang about with laugh at women's appearance, you might want to change the company you keep. Because it's a safe bet the ones laughing at filler are also the ones who laugh at fat women, old women and unattractive women. Not liking the look is one thing, but grown men laughing at another person's face, like ten year olds? You need some more grown up friends.

You do realise, not every woman wants to attract men? Some are in relationships already. Some are attracted to other women. Some are at a point where they don't care. Some get more interest than they know what to do with and find it a nuisance.
It might be hard for you to accept as it matters to you, but for a lot of women, male attention is a tiny, irrelevant part of everyday life, and changes made to enhance appearance are for the personal pleasure of liking what they see in the mirror.
I'm sure you do attract men in your mini skirt. Just as some women attract men with their filled lips ( women with lip fillers have partners too!) and legions of others attract men without either. But really, who cares? There's plenty of men to go round for those who want them. Its not a competition where you need to pull other women down.

I laugh at the rubber lip brigade as well. So I’m happy, thanks. Loads of people laugh at the look in real life. It looks stupid. You can stick with virtue signalling if you like. It’s just pretence; even rich celebs who have had it and can afford the best-still look obvious.

I don't think the original post was suggesting that these men were quite literally laughing in the face of said women. More a case of poking fun in private, which lets be honest, is something everyone does, men and women. There is a whole glossy gossip mag industry out there that seem to relish ripping into celebs for how they look and that only survives because there is a (mostly women) audience willing to buy said trash.

They’re doing it to be attractive in the wider sense - be that to their male OH or in general, even if they’re not at a point in their life where they want men approaching them. It’s done to be “sexy” and most people are straight therefore it’s for men. I don’t know why it’s such a problem to admit it.

I actually have an issue with these so-called enhancements because very young women are now getting them and any discussion about this and the immense pressure on young women to look like a rubber doll is shut down with HeR bOdY hEr cHoIcE

LuckySantangelo35 · 04/08/2022 08:31

All these are people bleating on about filler lips are not “natural”.

well….so what?!

some people like the natural look. Some don’t.

looking “natural” is not some panacea that everyone aspires to

malificent7 · 04/08/2022 08:42

The lip filler pics on the internet tend to be the worst examples.

I prefer the look of lip fillers to my lip lines personally. Just like i prefer the look of botox to 11s. I do quite like my crow's feet and i think that phrase should be banned and rebranded as smile lines! Its the negative language like that used to describe women's faces.. as well as " rubber lips" that is so damaging.

DillonPanthersTexas · 04/08/2022 08:45

Well fine, if you like that 'look' of puffed up lips then fill your boots. But that is slight departure from the narrative presented here where some folk are falling over themselves to convince you that said treatments are 'subtle' and 'barely noticeable', i.e. you are still retaining a natural look. Even the twee termology deployed such as 'tweakment', 'a treat' or 'freshen up' is designed to play down the fact that you have essentially had an invasive procedure. It would seem it is compliant to tell those who have had fillers that the work looks 'natural' even when it quite clearly does not.

Siameasy · 04/08/2022 08:48

When men en masse start getting this done (please no!) then I will believe it’s not done to be sexy.

Well yes. There are always going to be women out there who go along with male cruelty towards other women, as they think it makes them popular. Just as long as they're aware that they are also a likely a target themselves for aspects of their own appearance and personality when their backs turned. Cruel people aren't selective.

@DillonPanthersTexas

And? So?

some people who get fillers want a natural subtle look. Some people want a more obvious dramatic change.

some people are like me in the sense that they want something in between- I don’t want something hugely different but I do want to see a slight change because I’m doing it to improve my self. And I feel I’ve been able to achieve that middle ground.

I agree. I find it depressing that it is now becoming the norm to do this. I would like to lose a few lines and my jowls, but I have accepted that this is part of the ageing process, and feel privileged that I am fit and healthy at 63.

Everyone passes comment in private on other people of either sex who look silly -stop being ridiculous.

Anyway, aren’t we meant to laugh at clowns anymore?!
