Bit of Filler... husband furious!

Bonnie7 · 02/08/2022 22:37

Aibu?

Went for my 6 monthly Botox treat today and decided to have a tiny bit of filler in my lips.
They are currently swollen and look bigger than they will in a few days - but by no means a trout pout!
Well my husband and eldest child have gone absolutely mad at me. They can barely look at me!
They are furious!
I can't believe my appearance causes them so much anguish when they barely look at me in normal circs!
Said I look like I'm off TOWIE trying to be 20 and ridiculous...
Husband is really really cross. I feel like I'm 15 again!
I by the way, love it!
Just turned 50 and have 4 kids...

I just felt like looking after me and trying something new.
Aibu - it's up to me? My face, my choice?!?

My kids are 12 and under. It's only the eldest who is cross... probably because his dad is.
The others have zero idea anything or different.
I'm just trying to navigate wether to apologise to my husband or stand up for myself.
Interested to get peoples opinions wether I've done wrong doing something to myself without asking husbands opinion???

Of course you don't apologise to him, it's your body and you don't need his permission. Also, I would not stand for my 12 year old being "furious" with me for a choice I made about my own body/appearance

CloudCatz · 03/08/2022 16:24

Imagine him coming home one day with fillers jn his cheeks and looking all clown like. You wouldnt be happy than either.

Massive assumption. People like different things. Some men don't mind/like their partner's lip fillers, some women wouldn't care about male Botox or cheek fillers. Looking like a clown is a subjective thing tbh, what some people find a turn-off, others don't. I'm sure everyone posting is unattractive to at least one other poster on here, even if they are completely confident and natural in their appearance.

wellhelloitsme · 03/08/2022 16:25

@milkyaqua

OP obviously means she feels 15 because she's being treated like a told off child by her husband, not because she wants to look 15...

It’s an odd kind of confusion to conflate hair dye and mini skirts with Botox and fillers.

The reason I don’t have the latter is because I think they make women look worse not better.

I’ve worn mini skirts all my life and dyed my hair since I went grey though.

I'm not conflating the two at all. I'm making a comparison between the spite directed at both, by women who don't want to do those things towards those that do. It's odd that that confuses you as its a rather simple point I feel.

I’ve not heard spite directed at any.

Most women wear minis and dye their hair at some point.

I don’t have Botox or fillers because I think they distort the face. What’s spiteful about that?

Before and after. They don't look completely natural but so much better to me.

Sorry, they were 100m percent better before - in my opinion of course.

They just look generic and fake now, sorry

Maxmayfield · 03/08/2022 16:46

Painful and unnecessary infections to alter the shape of your natural face in accordance with transitory social standards of beauty for women are a treat?

Maxmayfield · 03/08/2022 16:46

*injections

AbsoluteShambles · 03/08/2022 16:49

They’re being ridiculous. It’s entirely up to you.

I’d have likely mentioned it if I planned it but wouldn’t run anything past anyone if I had the opportunity to do it at the time of making a decision. But I’d be sharing information not looking for input!

Also, it generally takes time to end up with overinflated anything - injectors usually only go in with a ml or less in a given area at any one time. So any reaction in terms of it looking extreme are likely disproportionate - it’ll be the swelling.

Enjoy your enhanced lips!

He didn't "give his opinion" he had a tantrum and involved the DC in his tantrum.

He doesn't have to like it, nothing wrong with saying he preferred her without the (temporary) change. She might then decide not to repeat it when it wears off.

However throwing a tantrum and involving the children and making it a huge issue the act of an arse.

Having a tantrum when he has indicated other body modifications he would like her to make (because he wants them) is the act of a hypocrite.

@C8H10N4O2
@Hrpuffnstuff1

he did have a tantrum

and he didn’t eat his dinner either!! Out of protest at OP’s lips…as if she gives a fuck, he’s hardly gonna waste away is he

MintyGreenDreams · 03/08/2022 18:08

There have been plenty of spiteful comments on the thread directed both to the OP and to women who have procedures in general. If you didn't make comments likening other women to rubber dinghies and trouts, use terms like mutton dressed as lamb, and belittle the OP by suggesting she wanted to look 20 and so forth, then I'm obviously not referring to you. You don't like the look of fillers, other people don't like the look of sags and wrinkles. As long as our tastes don't lead us to insult and offend each other, each to their own.

People are entitled to say they don’t like the look of something without being accused of spite nonetheless.

RampantIvy · 03/08/2022 19:26

and plenty of non spiteful comments saying that they dislike the artificial look, which, IMO, is not unreasonable.

Quite. Not even the artificiality that disturbs me it’s the distortion.

There have been loads of nasty spiteful comments more than positive for sure I told the op it was her body her choice and was harshly criticised by another poster saying I had obviously never been in a serious long term relationship. I still don’t understand how they came to that conclusion or the relevance

I am sorry because it will inevitably be a hurtful comment

But she put herself on a public forum inviting comment… and I can’t lie. They don’t look horrible, better than most filler jobs in fact, but still generic and fake and, in my subjective opinion, worse than before.

It’s a forum. With opinions. Sorry.

Siameasy · 03/08/2022 20:39

It’s a bit “one opinion for all” on this topic.

The elephant in the room is a lot of people laugh at these injected lips, particularly men. Sad really because it’s done for men although this will never be admitted. Those getting the lips think it’s sexy; “I did it for me” is the biggest load of bullshit ever.

While I’m sure some people do get it to make themselves better for men, I genuinely did get my filler for myself. The biggest reason being my smile, I HATED smiling or laughing and would never ever allow a picture of me smiling to see the light of day. I also like how fillers made me look older, I know some people get them to stay looking young but I was in my mid 20s looking 15 so having fuller lips made me look closer to my actual age. 😂
I wasn’t full of self hatred, I always liked how I looked otherwise and thought I was actually quite attractive, I just wanted to feel more confident and not hate smiling!!

Im sure some people don’t like how my lips look and say they were better before just because of the fact I’ve had filler but I like them and they give me a bit of confidence that I lacked before so does it matter what others think?

See this is what I can't understand. I know we all have different tastes but fat lips just look like someone has punched you.

Thank you! ♥️
I’ve had 3.5ml, I got them topped up 0.5ml just over a year after my last session and now probably won’t touch them again for another year. You may need a couple mls to get them how you want or you could be happy with only one session, depends what you’re going for, but then you shouldn’t need them topped up for a while and it’s up to you whether you need them topping up again as some people don’t feel they do.
