Bit of Filler... husband furious!

677 replies

Bonnie7 · 02/08/2022 22:37

Aibu?

Went for my 6 monthly Botox treat today and decided to have a tiny bit of filler in my lips.
They are currently swollen and look bigger than they will in a few days - but by no means a trout pout!
Well my husband and eldest child have gone absolutely mad at me. They can barely look at me!
They are furious!
I can't believe my appearance causes them so much anguish when they barely look at me in normal circs!
Said I look like I'm off TOWIE trying to be 20 and ridiculous...
Husband is really really cross. I feel like I'm 15 again!
I by the way, love it!
Just turned 50 and have 4 kids...

I just felt like looking after me and trying something new.
Aibu - it's up to me? My face, my choice?!?

It's not even slightly a fact. It's an opinion.

@SuperPets

how so?

a make up artist could make anyone’s face look better

IrisVersicolor · 03/08/2022 10:16

I’d be furious too if my DP turned up with fish lips I find them so offputting.

DillonPanthersTexas · 03/08/2022 10:17

it is a fact though 😊

Anecdotal I know but I am quite sporty and 'outdoorsy' as are many of my friends, we often spend our weekends up in the hills hiking and climbing. Most of the women in the group wear little to no makeup when half way up a mountain in Wales or trekking across Dartmoor, they simply can't be arsed when in the great outdoors. Personally I find the no makeup 'fresh', healthy, fit, outdoor look coupled with a great smile very attractive. That is not to mean when they put make up on they are 'ugly', they just look different, I find 'less is more', personal preferences and all that but I do find it a bit sad when some women confess to not even being able to pop down the shop on Sunday morning without having to put some make up on first.

LunchPoems · 03/08/2022 10:21

Im a makeup every day woman, have been for decades. I’ve found the no makeup brigade very judgey over those years, snd this just seems an extension of that. Just leave people to do what they want.

@DillonPanthersTexas

im not sure your pals look great when out and about up mountains but objectively they would look better with makeup on because that it what makeup is designed to do. Can be to subtly enhance etc and just make them look like the best most freshest version of themselves. I think On mumsnet some people think of makeup and think of really heavy full beat makeup etc with wing eyeliner (a look I love actually)

i rarely go out without makeup. I’m not “confessing” to that and don’t feel it’s sad, it’s just a fact about me. I am more confident with makeup on because I know I look far better with it on so why not?

I’ve noticed this too- some women really do think they are more superior, more virtuous, more ‘deep’ than those who wear makeup.

Like they are concerned with far more higher things than what their face looks like whereas I am obviously
a vapid air head only interested in Rimmel.

Oh and I obviously can’t be a good mum either because what am I doing with my childreeeeen when I have my hair or nails done - that should be faaaaamily time!!

RewildingAmbridge · 02/08/2022 22:40

How would you feel if your husband changed his face with an unnecessary procedure that can go very wrong? It seems like self harm to me, but maybe my view is biased, because I live in Essex where there are many people whose own mothers wouldn't recognise them anymore, it's like a form of body dysmorphia

I agree with this. I also can't understand why people willingly have one of the worlds most deadly poisons into their face.

MsRosley · 03/08/2022 10:31

Lip fillers are always obvious, even when the swelling has gone down.

justasking111 · 03/08/2022 10:34

Being part of a team that organised a sponsored event up Snowdon. Some of the participants wore makeup when they arrived back down there was much hilarity as they compared each others Panda eyes etc.

I'm fairly certain the vitriol flows in both directions.

No. Because "better" is subjective. You might see a face, see it then made up and think it better. Someone else might think it worse.

I wear make up, I like make up. I like my face in makeup. I think a lot of people look better in make up. But I also see many many women with makeup, particularly the fashionable airbrushed look with big eyelashes and lips, and I don't think they look "better". I think they all look the same and a bit weird, and overly done. I think a lot of them look better before they put it all on.

Subjective opinion. Not fact.

LunchPoems · 03/08/2022 10:43

Yes, @LuckySantangelo35 my erstwhile SIL, amongst others, would say “ oh, I wish I had the time to do that!” In a truly sanctimonious tone, meaning “you selfish, vain slattern!” 🤣

@Snaketime

filler isn’t a poison. It’s hylalronic acid which is naturally occurring in the body

@MsRosley

theyre not though.

I’ve just had mine done. Told no one not even my partner. Just had 0.5 ml. He didn’t notice. and trust me, he’d tell me if he did

so you’re wrong

Tell your husband to fuck off

I came to say this 😂

Depending how many ml you got, they'll barely notice it after 1 week anyway.

Get more next time to spite them 😂

LuckySantangelo35 · 03/08/2022 09:48

Oh and OP your husband needs to sod off and your kid pipe down and learn some respect for his mother

honestly I wouldn’t have dared to say anything critical or derogatory about my mothers appearance when I was 12. The child is really out of line

Tbf my mum would never come home looking like a rubber dingy. She just wouldn't resort to such age-defying nonsense. She has too much respect for herself.

And a husband is allowed to give his opinion and so are the children.

This is so true. I had 0.5 ml a week ago and honestly I can barely see it now! Feel like I want a bit more

bloodyplanes · 03/08/2022 10:49

I don't like the look of lip fillers and think its extremely rare to see them done well and look natural. However it's absolutely no one else's business but yours what you choose to do to your face! Tell them to keep their noses out.

Twillow · 03/08/2022 10:49

Your body etc. Maybe it will look more natural when it settles down.
But honestly, I'd take it as a sign they like you as you are and now think you look silly.
There is a young girl at work who has this regularly, everyone says they love it but all talk about how awful it looks behind her back.

When I was younger, I wouldn’t have gone out without make up. Now I regularly do. I remember thinking my natural unmade up face was really ugly. Which is such a shame. I see it with my girls who truly look 100% better bare faced and without the fake tan, but they don’t believe it.

I think that on some people , a little bit of natural make up is flattering. Some don’t need it at all and no one looks good with the contoured, fake lashed, lip filleted look. I see many beautiful girls looking like drag queens around here. All the men I’ve spoken to, including my teenage son, don’t like it. My partner prefers me even without my subtle make up. My exes didn’t seem to care one way or the other.

So whilst i may have gone through a young phase of wearing too much make up, at least it was just make up. This fashion of fillers and Botox etc on perfectly beautiful faces is worrying. And I don’t see anyone young needing it. I obviously can only tell if it’s obvious but it looks horrible.

Spohn · 03/08/2022 10:52

The lip injection is not the point, your husband is trying to ‘punish’ you by not eating his dinner (😂 what a fucking loser) making vile remarks about you and getting your kids to join in. Absolutely unacceptable environment to inflict on kids. Is he this repugnant in other areas? Seems weird that he’d act like such a piece of shit this one time only.

@Hrpuffnstuff1

is your mum very holier than thou? Clearly made of better stuff than the likes of me who has no respect for myself according to you 🤣

and yeah I guess the husband and 12 year old son have the right to their opinion and op has the right to tell them to pipe down and that she will do exactly what she wants to her face and body so yeah 🤷‍♀️
they can give their opinion doesn’t mean it’s of any relevance or importance to anyone. Too many males just can’t get their head around that I know.

I stand by the fact that at 12 I had too much respect for my mum to say anything critical to her about my appearance, both my mum and my dad would have put me in place had I dared and rightly so

i know right!

who gives a fuck whether he eats his dinner?!

he can starve.

ChampagneLassie · 03/08/2022 10:59

I had quite large facial surgery a few years ago to improve my look, lots of small changes for an overall more balanced pleasing effect but subtle. My friends all thought I was insane and it would be a slippery slope. It was better than I hoped but so subtle even my parents don't know (mad eh) as I age it looks even better
