Yes this may be costly to set up such as enhanced dbs checks etc.

I feel that this would both give a purpose and a contribution. And lead to jobs possibly/ develop cv / show work ethic.

In addition , it may stop the resentment and the benefit bashing if the claimants are seen to be contributing to society.

This is not necessarily a tory notion.
Karl Marxs idea about each to ones own ability... encompasses this idea of people working together for the whole of society accordi ng to ability. A quick google implies this is actually a socilaist idea of all doing what they can . This is what i am suggesting.

And before anyone says they would be pushed into things.. maybe there could be a choice of ways to contribute ,like on a data base.

Also, I am a cleaner myself. I literally clean poo off loos. I do not feel less worthy than others . I do the job because I can no longer work in my profession , as I get older, ( burnt out nhs) and see nothing but value in my ( ? Seen as some, lowly work). It gives me structure, a decent wage, and I contribute. All good. No shame in doing a good job , whatever that job if it is in my ability.

How can this idea, properly managed be other than reasonable. ?

Exactly. The agenda-pushing is so obvious.

The allegation (which runs so completely counter to even what the disabled-bashing and benefits-bashing Tory government puts out) that a whopping 99% of disability claimants are faking is just so obviously untrue it's laughable.

If that were true it would mean that practically no actual disabled or seriously/terminally ill person is on benefits, in which case, what are all the actual disabled and seriously/terminally ill people surviving on? Yes lots of disabled people work but clearly not all!

Does Bednobsbroomsticks think disabled people live on fresh air? Or that we live in a wonderland where employment discrimination doesn't exist?

Do u know what I do think? I think it's disgraceful that disabled people I know in Residential homes who can't eat drink talk walk have to apply for pip, when others are out clubbing and saying they can't go out cause of anxiety and depression. It's utter bullshit. But keep plugging away for the fraudsters. Well done

The pay is crap but people are still lazy. I'd work for crap pay because sitting at home is enough to make you go mad anyway

So, @bedknobsandbroomsticks what work do you? Is the pay crap?

Go do my job for 30 years come back and we will talk then.

Stick your head in the sand and pretend I'm calling disabled people liars. I'm saying able bodied people lie to get benefits people WITH disabilities should be getting. If you can't understand that then don't bother replying

You’ve no idea what I do.

I know you’re talking bollocks. We all do.

Even the Tories don’t act as ludicrously as you do with statements.

It's impossible to get PIP without evidence. If you're able bodied/no MH issues, you won't have a consultant, or be on medication, or be able to supply proof of diagnosis, and so on. Without these, your application will not be successful.

It's not as simple as saying 'I don't feel well' and bingo, oodles of cash. As anyone who genuinely works in the field knows.

If someone feels up to going out and having a good time regardless of their anxiety/depression, then fair play to them. It is miserable to live with those conditions, so if they have a good MH day where they feel they can get out, then good for them.

Yes the pay is crap. But I work to help.people. those who need it, not the fraudsters. And I work from home which is enough to make anyone depressed so I also work out in the community at weekends. I'm coming across angry because I see so much injustice. Generations of families who don't want to work. My dad is 80. Works full time because my mum can't work due to her disability. She gets nothing

Yet 22 year olds get thousands bavk pay because they say they can't be bothered to do their hair or go on the Internet. (Unbelievable yes?) She got thousands!

But according to you hardly any legitimate disabled people apply for PIP??

I can easily imagine someone who's spent 30 years being subject to DWP/ATOS brainwashing (where assessors are actively encouraged to view all disabled people as cheats, where they're told that if someone answers the question "what's your favourite TV show?" with any answer at all it is proof they're faking being disabled since anyone capable of staring at a TV is equally capable of staring at a computer in an office job) might end up genuinely believing that all the people they see are cheats and liars.

Just because you think all the people you assess are liars and cheats doesn't mean they factually are liars and cheats.

Spend a few decades as an actual disabled person and disability advocate, like me, and come back and we'll talk then.

WisherWood you say it is the fact that people have to show they have applied for jobs etc. ..that is true , but are you are aware that some people dont want to work and when they have applied for jobs to get the benefit folk off theirback they intentionally mess up the interview as they dont want to work.
? It happens ,it really does .

'the benefit folk'

Ah, how sweet. Are they like the fairies at the bottom of the garden who sift PIP applications? They exist, they really do.

Also, it's disgusting comments like yours which make me too worried to claim PIP again. My condition fluctuates: I'm in pain daily, to some degree, but occasionally I will feel able to go for a walk or a gig or whatever.

Judgemental people like you would probably think I'm taking to get £26 a week (which is all I'd be entitled to, if anything, but it would make the world of difference to me).

I wasn't awarded PIP despite having rheumatoid arthritis and being unable to walk to the bathroom without help some days. To suggest people get it with absolutely no supporting evidence is just ludicrous.

JemimaPuddlegoose · 02/08/2022 23:24

For someone who claims almost no actual disabled people apply for benefits you sure do know a hell of a lot of... actual disabled people who apply for benefits.

Are you really not seeing the disconnect here? Any disabled person you know personally (friends or relatives) is good and honest and any disabled person you don't know personally is a liar.

The DWP have brainwashed you to hate and distrust the people you assess because that is how the DWP operate - they literally train their assessors to assume people are lying and to look for anything they can twist into fitness for work. You could have end stage terminal cancer but saying you like Eastenders is considered proof that you can work and are just being lazy, because sure if someone can watch telly they can flop in front of a computer screen just as easy, cancer or no.

GuyMontag · 02/08/2022 23:24

It's always the same script outline isn't it? Just substitute relevant words.

"I don't have anything against GENUINE [disabled people/asylum seekers/single parents/any other cohort of people with reduced social capital ] ... It's the FAKE LYING SCROUNGING [name your cohort again, for maximum indirect association with untrustworthy character traits] ... who CHEAT US ALL BY [ refer to broad unverifiable behaviour] that I'm angry about, as a fine upstanding concerned citizen."

Shift the focus every now and again being careful to keep it well away from any of the class/power structures that actually entrench inequality and hey presto, nobody cares that the royal family is full of nonces taking terrorist money, or that the prime minister is a lazy philandering liar because they're too busy looking narrow eyed at the woman next door on a mobility scooter.

No one is calling disabled people liars. Simply saying that people do lie stating they are disabled to increase their benefits.

This has been a trend since UC. Because its so low people have fallen to pip to increase their income. Can you always blame them ? No. But can they work often? Yes. Are they always disabled? No

You don't get pip just by saying you are disabled or ill. You have to bloody prove it with evidence from consultants, scan results, test results etc. Gone are the days when people could claim dla just by saying they had a bad back.

It's true. And I have filled in many a pip form for people with RA who have got it and quite rightly too.

People here want to jump on a bandwagon that doesn't exist. It's okay to be annoyed at fraud. It's okay to want people with a disability ( like my mother) to get the help. What's wrong is how the system is played and how people who should be getting it aren't.

People are flaming you because you're saying things which we all know, either by personal or professional experience, to be untrue. Things which are inflammatory and stigmatising to disabled people.

You cannot claim PIP without a whole raft of supporting evidence. That's just a fact. You can argue otherwise as much as you like - it's still the truth.

Of course I know that I'm not an idiot. But if you are claiming enhanced pip because you can't function or even go outside your front door and yet you are out everyday I don't see that as a genuine claim do you?
