Neighbour hates our hot tub

Sleepregressionqueen · 01/08/2022 10:08

We only bought our hot tub yesterday and set it up, kids been in it this morning from 8:45. Neighbour was round within 30 minutes she thinks it’s an absolute joke it’s too noisy she can barely hear herself think apparently. She is so much younger than us but miserable as hell!

she is quite nosey and is always on the street when any drama is going on with any of the neighbours so I kind of expected it.

of course I wouldn’t put the bubbles on at night (as much as I’d like to) so have told the kids only in the day.

we will probably only use it a few times a week.

Aibu what do I do?

It's your garden, you can do what you want within reason - and I'd say another tub at socially acceptable times is reasonable. HOWEVER, I curse every time the people at the bottom of our garden turn the hot tub on. It's noisy, and they talk loudly to overcome the noise, meaning I get to hear everything they chat about. I wouldn't complain to them. I don't like it.

girlmom21 · 01/08/2022 10:50

Says who though? I would have said 9 was the earliest

Does that 15 minutes make a difference if you're up anyway?

Most people are up and making noise by 7:30 on a weekday. She'd normally have her kids at school by 08:45.

Sleepregressionqueen · 01/08/2022 10:51

@ScreamingInfidelities maybe a bit shitty but it’s the truth. I could understand if she just got home from a night shift. But she’s at home all day.

ChronicOverthinkr · 01/08/2022 10:53

She shouldn’t have chosen a house with neighbours if she wanted a quiet life 🤷🏻‍♀️ I mean, I’d hope you’d be considerate as to the times you’re using it, but it already sounds like you are from your acknowledgment of when you’d have the bubbles on etc. so other than that, you’re entitled to use your garden as you wish!

LovinglifeAF · 01/08/2022 10:54

Ignore her.

VivaMazVegas · 01/08/2022 10:55

Your poor neighbour.

Festoonlights · 01/08/2022 10:55

I woyuld keep thing ms friendly and reach an agreement about use. No early mornings or late nights (without prior warning) limit use to an hour or so at any one time. Of course they are excited - it’s just arrived - but is reassure her it’s likely to end up like the exercise bike covered in dust and used as storage!! Don’t fall out, be understanding. Peace and quiet at home is a valuable commodity.

Davyjones · 01/08/2022 10:56

I think it’s very selfish to get something so noisy that irritates neighbours

Sleepregressionqueen · 01/08/2022 10:56

@DixonD i don’t think im selfish at all, if I was selfish we would be in it all day bubbles going music blasting and same again on the night. It’s the 6 weeks holiday all the kids are up including hers and my kids were in it for an hour. Please how does that make me selfish

I am really grouchy with noise but both of my neighbours (terrace house, small gardens, both of their tubs are up against my fence) and it’s the least irritating noise that the neighbours make so I don’t think you ABU personally!

I'm afraid I'm with your neighbour on this one. Unless you live in the middle of nowhere hot tubs are a bad idea. They're noisy and very antisocial.
I would love a hot tub, but I live in a semi detached house, so that's a no.

What are you on about. They arnt noisy atall. We have a hot tub and even with the jets on it's hardly noisy ! What is noisy is other neighbours kids screaming and playing loud music not the hum of a hot tub. Also don't understand how a semi or a detached is any different as you still have people on the other side of the fence unless you live in a field on your own

Pancakeorcrepe · 01/08/2022 10:58

Hot tubs are extremely anti-social and selfish. Find other ways of entertaining yourself and your kids. They should not be allowed in houses with close neighbours.

jammiewhammie65 · 01/08/2022 11:00

What's the difference between the kids playing In a paddling pool or a hot tub ? The actual hot tub isn't noisy. I would ignore her tbh she sounds miserable and needs to get a life. Some people just hate others enjoying themselves !!

So inconsiderate and selfish. Awful. If I was your neighbour I would move house. You have made their lives a misery within one day. Unbearable.

So dramatic!

You need to get a life

GreenEyedFox · 01/08/2022 11:01

Unless you’ve placed it in her garden she can piss off

VivaMazVegas · 01/08/2022 11:02

Also they are massively tacky.

Shinyandnew1 · 01/08/2022 11:02

Our old next door neighbours had one-it was very noisy. Because they are noisy themselves, the people in them talk louder over the noise which they probably don’t realise they are doing. We could hear every word of every conversation they were having!

Lolliepoppie · 01/08/2022 11:02

8:45am is pretty early to have DC squealing and playing in a pool.

Take no notice. These people are as miserable as your neighbour. Let your kids enjoy themselves you are doing nothing wrong !

Mooshroo · 01/08/2022 11:04

Are you my neighbour? 🤣

YANBU, you and your family can do as you wish in your own garden. Hot tubs are annoying to listen to though 😅

Have fun!

Notimeforaname · 01/08/2022 11:04

You're not breaking any laws or doing anything wrong. Enjoy yourselves!

HellonHeels · 01/08/2022 11:05

#teamneighbour

But, if she has children why don't you invite them over for a play in the hot tub? Might make a big difference to how ahe feels about it.

brookstar · 01/08/2022 11:05

I am a bit depressed by all the “it’s your garden do what you want as long as it’s daytime” responses. Whatever happened to being considerate? Personally I think part of living in a crowded environment is that we all need to keep our noise down a bit so others can enjoy their space too.

I completely agree. And that goes for building things in your garden which is going to obstruct views, light or reduce privacy.
If you have neighbours you should consider them too. It's the price you pay for living alongside other people.
Our neighbours have just renovated their garden. Not only is is completely out of character to the rest of the houses it have been built in a way that means we've lost all privacy. It's so selfish and inconsiderate.

Bellesboy1218 · 01/08/2022 11:05

Enjoy your hot tub. So many moany neighbours. Just have to live life and considerate within reason x
