Neighbour hates our hot tub

We only bought our hot tub yesterday and set it up, kids been in it this morning from 8:45. Neighbour was round within 30 minutes she thinks it’s an absolute joke it’s too noisy she can barely hear herself think apparently. She is so much younger than us but miserable as hell!

she is quite nosey and is always on the street when any drama is going on with any of the neighbours so I kind of expected it.

of course I wouldn’t put the bubbles on at night (as much as I’d like to) so have told the kids only in the day.

we will probably only use it a few times a week.

Aibu what do I do?

Ahh I probably shouldn’t have posted on here then lol!

Hot tub isn’t on her side it’s on the other end and we have a high fence.

I just knew she was going to get wound up by it! Can’t even breathe without her saying something.

If you knew that getting a hot tub would wind up your neighbour, then why on earth did you go and buy one and let your kids play in it at 8:45am. For this YABU. I am a true believer that if you live in a community you are going to hear your neighbours but hot tubs are loud and the noise is intrusive. How would you like it of she bought herself a drum kit, set it up in the back garden and had a play?

itsthesoundofthepolice · 01/08/2022 10:43

Hot tubs are noisy themselves and there's a lot of noise that goes with them. My neighbour has one and it's the bane of my life. It's noisy, they all shout over the noise and their dogs hate it so bark constantly, so sitting out in the garden if their using it is a pain. I wouldn't say anything about it though just quietly seethe

You're entitled to have it in your garden and your neighbour sounds like a pain in the arse but you should be considerate about the noise that goes along with it

If OP bought it for her kids, then it's for her kids, surely?!
Kids aren't meant to stay in hot tubs for more than 5 minutes as they can't regulate their body temperature the same as adults. Add in all the diseases you get from them they're actually not very safe for children at all. So they most certainly are not a kids toy.

😂
Ok then. My children were in the hot tub for hrs, they didn't like the bubbles so it was set on the lowest gentle setting. No issues with regulating or germs.
Although it wasn't a blow-up toy hot tub.
As for the op, wait till after 9-30 and then let them play. Children are noisy there's nothing you can do about it.

Sleepregressionqueen · 01/08/2022 10:43

@HesterShaw1 were not that bad 😆 we’ve only had it on for an hour. Going out now so we will let her have her peace back!

It was far too early in the morning!

08:45 on a weekday is not too early for children to be playing in their garden

pinkyredrose · 01/08/2022 10:44

YABU. Why not move somewhere with no neighbours if you want to cause disruption.

I have a sprinkler for my plants. Should my DGC not be allowed to play in the sprinkler?

As if that's the same thing!

(where's the facepalm emoji when you need it?)

bubblescoop · 01/08/2022 10:10

The hot tub isn’t for your kids and they shouldn’t be playing in it.

Is it as far away from your neighbours as possible?

Says who ...
Jesus Christ.

Sleepregressionqueen · 01/08/2022 10:45

@Dontcareforthehaters so I shouldn’t buy my family something because I know my neighbour is going to get wound up? We had a bbq with our family in June she had her head our the window looking annoyed!

limitedperiodonly · 01/08/2022 10:45

Are you going to get rid of it? If yes, why are you asking? If no, er why are you asking?

Randomthoughts992 · 01/08/2022 10:45

in the day its tough crap to be honest

Pixiedust1234 · 01/08/2022 10:46

What exactly is the problem?

  1. Hot tub humming? Is it too close to the house? What does it sound like in her house? The sound could be amplified and a lot louder.
  2. Kids squealing and shouting?
  3. How long its on for? 3 hours per day with a set cut off time is different to 24 hours.

The best way to seek a resolution is to go to her house and see what its like for her (including when the kids are shouting).

8.45am is too early, yadbu

Paq · 01/08/2022 10:46

They are noisy and you need to be considerate in how you and your kids use it.

On the other hand if you live with close neighbours you can't expect surrounding silence.

Sleepregressionqueen · 01/08/2022 10:40

@Thatboymum she has kids the same age we are all up early.

Are all your neighbours up early?

lukelovesu · 01/08/2022 10:46

YANBU. It’s your garden. There are lots of annoying things that distract us in other gardens from bbqs to trampolines to lawn mowers etc.

dolphinsarentcommon · 01/08/2022 10:47

Whilst it is your garden I'm with your neighbour. Awful things.

girlmom21 · 01/08/2022 10:48

Are all your neighbours up early?

Do you go to bed at the same time as yours?

ScreamingInfidelities · 01/08/2022 10:48

she doesn’t work though so I don’t understand why she is so fussed, she hasn’t got anything to get up for

what a shitty thing to say @Sleepregressionqueen 😮

Viviennemary · 01/08/2022 10:48

So inconsiderate and selfish. Awful. If I was your neighbour I would move house. You have made their lives a misery within one day. Unbearable.

Fe345fleur · 01/08/2022 10:48

We live in terrace housing and accept there's going to be noise from swimming pools, kids playing, smoke from BBQs etc. Doesn't stop it being annoying but means I don't feel too bad about all the noise we make! Maybe just try and keep it in reasonable times.

minipie · 01/08/2022 10:49

Have to say I’d absolutely hate it if my neighbours got a hot tub. It’s not the sound of kids playing, that’s par for the course, it’s the constant hum of the motor.

It’s a bit like having an air conditioning unit or leaf blower going all day. You sort of tune it out but then when it turns off, it’s SUCH a relief and you realise it was causing quite a lot of stress.

I am a bit depressed by all the “it’s your garden do what you want as long as it’s daytime” responses. Whatever happened to being considerate? Personally I think part of living in a crowded environment is that we all need to keep our noise down a bit so others can enjoy their space too.

DixonD · 01/08/2022 10:49

You sound like a really selfish neighbour.

Using a hot tub is one thing, but at least make it a bit later in the day.

SatinHeart · 01/08/2022 10:49

8.45 on a Sunday morning with kids splashing around with it is a bit antisocial tbh.

But at a more reasonable time pf day, your neighbour is ultimately going to have to suck it up.
