Gutted the Germans didn't win... they are women too, by the way, for all of you "delighted for the ladies"!!! I won't be able to listen to BBC R4 for weeks now because of the crowing... But fair play England lassies altogether!

ajandjjmum · 31/07/2022 20:56

Brilliant. My 88 year old Aunt used to play in goal in the 40's for one of the first women's teams - she loved seeing it!

derxa · 31/07/2022 20:56

I've just finished blubbing. Well done England's women. Another Scot here

FloraPostIt · 31/07/2022 20:59

Never given a toss about football before. Been hooked on this tournament. Can't believe it. I have every intention of supporting women's football from now on, and so excited for what this means for young girls. And there are some lucrative sports bra sponsorship deals on the way, which I'm hoping means better sports bras for all of us. A side issue but an important one I feel.

mrshoho · 31/07/2022 20:59

Phenomenal!! So so bloody brilliant! Well done 👏. A joy to watch this team.

EmmaH2022 · 31/07/2022 20:59

isn't it great?

I hope we have a victory parade or something.

Wineat5isfine · 31/07/2022 20:59

Absolutely bloody amazing!! Such a different game to the mens. No diving, no one trying to gain anything from cheating. Pure skill…and such passion.

At a time when womens sport is in such jeopardy, the most amazing result ⚽️👊🏻

Daleksatemyshed · 31/07/2022 21:00

Well done the Lionesses. We never watch football but I was so proud! How wonderful for all the children in the stands to see that women can be whatever they want to be

Boiledbeetle · 31/07/2022 21:00

I'm Scottish, but even so Well Done England!

Augend23 · 31/07/2022 21:00

I also don't normally watch football but made an exception for today - what a historic moment!

And I did actually enjoy the game - felt like there was more "play" than in a men's match but I can't put my finger on why I feel like that.

Forestgate · 31/07/2022 21:01

It was brilliant to watch. So much more enjoyable. The players all seemed to be much more normal and really passionate about sport rather than status as you feel in the men's. Don't think I'll ever watch anything else now! Go girls!

Forestgate · 31/07/2022 21:02

Men's is so much more defensive and boring in comparison. Everyone thinking about themselves/ avoiding injury and not getting stuck in. Women's is the way forward!

Topsyturveymam · 31/07/2022 21:02

Amazing night for the game and women.
So inspiring to the see the drive, passion and resilience of these women pushing through barriers. Such pure spirit compared to some of the commercialised bollocks that can surround the mens game.

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 31/07/2022 21:05

Delighted for them!!! 🥰

from me 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 to you 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 🥳

Begoniasforever · 31/07/2022 21:05

That was a fantastic match, much faster than mens football.

I love that these young women, many of whom are only early twenties, are going to become role models for young women and girls everywhere. Strong, fit, healthy, sporty, driven, successful, team players.

well Done the lionesses.

smine1 · 31/07/2022 21:06

Absolutely fantastic GrinFootballGrinFootballGrinGrin

ghostyslovesheets · 31/07/2022 21:08

My daughters were never allowed to play in school - despite both playing every weekend - one decent PE teacher let my eldest skip netball to join the boys team - she was given repeated detentions - both still play - I am so very proud tonight of England - let this be the start of a change - let girls bloody play football in school!

Stargazinggal · 31/07/2022 21:09

Really inspiring. I hope it helps many girls and women believe in themselves, and wakes any male doubters up to the realty of how amazing we are!

Agree. This was a team United without any flashy prima-Donnas. Just sportswomen getting on with their game and smashing it.

TheGetaway · 31/07/2022 21:12

The ONLY slight thing that pissed me off was the token black player subbed in at the end.
I’m surprised no-one else has mentioned the lack of diversity in our team

TBF this was discussed in this programme. They are aware and addressing. If I remember rightly they talked about the location of clubs?

fantastic
women can !

langdale2016 · 31/07/2022 21:17

The best thing to happen all year. Well done to our wonderful Lionesses. This is a pivotal moment for women AND our lovely girls. My daughter who is 18 started a girls football team at her school with her friends when she was in Year 5. They won many matches against local schools in their area, but it was always a surprise to me that there hadn't been anything in place until they set this up (obs with the help of a willing PE teacher) but this was only 8 years ago! Go girls you can do this. Follow your dreams😍

Stylishkidintheriot · 31/07/2022 21:20

Another Scottish woman in to say well done. Delighted for you all

DonnaHadDee · 31/07/2022 21:21

I really enjoyed watching that. Atmosphere in the stadium looked fantastic. Well done England! Thoroughly deserved:)
