Scottish woman here.
Fabulous game and super proud of what the Lionesses have accomplished!

AtrociousCircumstance · 31/07/2022 20:32

Earp the goalie was a legend! Speedy Meady, you rock! 🏆😄

heidihigh · 31/07/2022 20:33

I don't usually "do" football but what a moment. Absolutely fantastic how far women's football has come.

NotDonna · 31/07/2022 20:33

DH and I watched with our 3 daughters. I cried!! All the way through our girls were saying win or lose this will change womens sport. But so so proud of those ladies and everyone behind the scenes supporting them!!

DataColour · 31/07/2022 20:35

Absolutely loved it! DS 13 and DD 11 were hooked, it was an amazing match and we'll deserved win for the Lionesses!!

TFMinx · 31/07/2022 20:36

Your move, gents; why not have a go to see what it feels like Grin

dudsville · 31/07/2022 20:38

As the guardian article said, imagine it's 1920 and telling these women that's it now, you can't play anymore because you're women and it's not seemly.

This is wonderful. What a boost! I teared up with the sight of the stadium full of young girls. I don't care about football/sport, but this is a fabulous, fabulous thing.

My neighbourhood football pitch must have hosted a viewing, it was so nice hearing the women being cheered on.

My Mum was not allowed to play football at school in the 70s.

When I was at school in the early 00s, playing in front of a huge crowd at Wembley was a dream only available to the boys. My school didn’t have a women’s team because not enough girls wanted to play (and who could blame us with such poor prospects?!). You couldn’t even earn a wage from being a female footballer.

I am 29, similar age to most of these girls. So as not really a football fan, I am absolutely SOBBING at this team because they have built this dream from something that was totally unimaginable to their younger selves. They have literally done something that they couldn’t even have dreamed of as kids and today there will be thousands of young girls inspired to play sport, knowing that these kind of moments are available not just to men but to women also.

Their conduct has been impeccable, no negativity, just a team, working together, inspiring the nation!

Nidan2Sandan · 31/07/2022 20:38

I've already seen posts on FB comparing the win to the mens team beating Germany in a euros game.

Cant let women just have the win, after playing phenomenally (and i dont watch football full stop, but watched today)

Anothernamechangeplease · 31/07/2022 20:39

Lovely to see the generous comments here from Scottish posters.

The women's team have overcome so much adversity to get to this point. I'm so proud of what they have achieved, and hope now that the women's game will now start to be valued in a similar way to the men's game. It's about time!

Wouldloveanother · 31/07/2022 20:40

Amazing!!! I had goosebumps watching them celebrate!

it was incredible to watch the women do what the overpaid and overconfident men have failed to do for over 50 years.

DowningStreetParty · 31/07/2022 20:43

Fabulous game, fabulous tournament, hope the Lionesses are celebrating hard! So inspiring and so brilliant.

thereisonlyoneofme · 31/07/2022 20:45

Well goes to show you dont need to pay a player millions, I believe they get a very small wage compared to the men. And they appear to be better !

Tiredalwaystired · 31/07/2022 20:46

Totally inspiring! Had a few friends in the crowd who bought tickets for about £20 a year ago - can’t say I’m not a little bit envious.

MyNameIsAngelicaSchuyler · 31/07/2022 20:46

IT CAME HOME!!!!

omg what an amazing match, team, achievement. This is huge. I hope it’s the start of something like Gabby said at the end of the commentary. It’s come home, let’s keep it here.

FourChimneys · 31/07/2022 20:46

I'm not interested in football normally but this was fantastic.

In the 70s at school, some girls asked if they could play football and were told it was only for boys. If the Head of PE is still alive I hope he regrets that attitude now.

Yes, as others have said, brilliant to see so many young girls in the stadium. I hope they all go home and kick a ball about tomorrow.

MarneyM · 31/07/2022 20:46

History made. So proud. What a team, I’ve never been so emotional at the end of a sporting event. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

Another Scot here. Well done England!! So proud of what the English women have done here. I hope their legacy will be that more girls will get into football.

Awesome!! 👏🏻🏆🥳💕

TwoOwlSocks · 31/07/2022 20:47

Brilliant! I was in tears.

I don't watch football. My DH doesn't watch football. But we've both been completely hooked by the women's game. No diving, no stupid show-offery, just talent and professionalism.
Long live women's football.

A large part of the reason for the ban was because they were becoming more popular than the men's games. Hence it's very pleasing that they had a record attendance at Wembley today.

Its thirty years since I put on my first pair of football boots, as a new undergraduate - the first opportunity I had to play - and I still play. I played yesterday. We've come a long way but we still have a long way to go to get parity with the men's game and for women to have the same opportunities.

littlbrowndog · 31/07/2022 20:49

Scottish here. Omg the lionesses. Fucking awesome

medianewbie · 31/07/2022 20:50

Such an important day for women's sport.
Well Done Lionesses 👏

MrsOvertonsWindow · 31/07/2022 20:51

A brilliant match and so important for women's sport.

Wineinthegarden · 31/07/2022 20:52

Absolutely brilliant! And so pleased the bbc stayed with all the celebrations and let them have their time to have that win so rightly enjoyed! It was fantastic!

Saucepanwarrior · 31/07/2022 20:53

Scandinavian family here, watching with 19-year old son. We’re soooo happy it’s finally coming home! Well done England!
