Who pays for the meal when dating a teenager? 🤔

His mum and dad? 😅

🤭

Two (presumably) consenting adults?

I fail to see how it's anyone business, least of all judgy fuckwits.

ultraviolet4753 · 30/07/2022 00:29

Fine to me, they are legal, consenting adults.

My uncle married a woman half his age, now they have two kids and been together over 20 years. Great couple, kids are wonderful.

When I was 17 I married a 30 y.o. been happily married nearly 20 years! All the crap people say about power imbalance didn't apply to us, never had a bad fight or split up.

SunscreenCentral · 30/07/2022 00:44

I doubt either of them think it's love&marriage but tbqh I'd not be delighted at all if this were my son.

His brain hasn't formed neurologically speaking, so she's enjoying his cock and potentially fucking up his future relationships.

MeditationAndMusic · 30/07/2022 00:13

His mum and dad? 😅

Do 19 year olds not have jobs then? Does a 40 year old woman have no money?

Honestly you sound like you're kids gossiping. Women have come along way since you were a child. I guess.

😂 Someone has no sense of humour I see.

I'm glad it's worked out for you but surely you can see that you're likely to be a real exception to the rule?

You don't think there is a power imbalance between almost all 17 year olds vs 30 year olds?

Life experience wise, financially, earning power, independence etc.

There will always be exceptions to any rule but I think that the majority of 30 year old men who date 17 year old girls, for example, have a hell of a lot more life experience, earning power, independence etc than those 17 year old girls.

Hence the power imbalance.

This 100%. At 17 a girl has no idea what else is out there.

Nope. You're not funny.

I think you're a bit cringe. Sorry.

Happy to think different to you. I wouldn’t want the same thoughts and humour as someone that thinks dating someone age 19 when you’re 40 is ok. Why do random people on the internet trigger you so much? 🧐

Dinoteeth · 30/07/2022 01:19

Raquelos · 29/07/2022 23:38

Would we really? Boris 58, Carrie 34, age difference 24 years. No one batted an eyelid.

She's 34 a fully grown adult. He's not double her age.

A better comparison would be a certain Prince Andrew who was about 40 with the 17 year old!

Florenz · 30/07/2022 01:23

I think the half your age plus seven rule should be written into law.

Some fairly obvious issues around consent make prince Andrew a particularly stupid example. If you don't see that then your moral compass is too out of kilter for anyone to take what you have to say about a consenting 19yo adult's choices seriously.

Last I checked it was AIBU. This is where people disagree.

Funnily my 12 year old uses the word triggered. At 40 I don't. It's for people who have suffered abuse/ptsd.

I'm merely replying because I disagree. There is a difference. You're not funny imo. Others may find you hilarious!!

Sometimeswinning · 30/07/2022 01:39

@MeditationAndMusic
Oh god sorry 🧐

Triggered seems suitable. I chose the word purposefully for you.

SherbertLemonDrop · 30/07/2022 01:46

If my son in a few years went out with a 40 year old I'd be livid and think there was something wrong with her.

Do you know what triggered means??

I don't think you do. Luckily for me it's not brought up terrible things from my childhood. (That's what it means)

I just don't think you're funny. I'm sorry. You've obviously found it difficult.

It doesn’t have to be related to childhood. You could be triggered and be so defensive because of the circumstances of your own relationship. I will always think that people in their 30s+ dating teens is wrong. There will always be imbalance, they will be or at least should be at very different stages in their life and the older one will have a wealth of experience in probably every area.

Nope. Check it. You're wrong.

I don't like misogynist jokes. I see them for what they are the older I get. Not triggered. Just my opinion.

Karenxo · 30/07/2022 06:57

I think you need to let it go @Sometimeswinning, you're reaching by calling that misogynistic. And triggered is not offensive ffs. Saw somebody upset by the use of 'therapy' in a joke in a completely different context not related to childhood trauma, most likely because they disagree with the poster. Not because they're actually offended.

All she said was 'mum and dad' paying, bloody hell

Marvellousmadness · 30/07/2022 07:15

Bahhahaha that is a joke surely
If it was for sex...than maybe (??????) I could understand . No actually i wouldnt.

A 19yo is a kid that JUST went legal a year ago. Basically.

I would question the 40yos sanity tbh.

Runnerduck34 · 30/07/2022 07:27

As a mum of a 19 year old i would be very concerned if they started dating a 40 year old. As pp said their brains dont stop developing until they are 25 so there is a massive inbalance in maturity and experience.
I really cant see why a 40 year old would want a relationship with a 19 year old, they are pretty immature and can be self absorbed at that age, different stages in life and experiences.

I suppose its about sex and will burn itself out.
