McDonalds price increase

Sally090807 · 27/07/2022 08:55

I see that McDonalds are increasing their prices so from today their cheeseburgers are going up from 99p to £.1.19, a 20% increase.
I don’t eat there often but as the company made $12.58B last year, a 29% increase from the previous year, then I think it’s sheer greed to put their prices up.

YABU - the cost of living has gone up and therefore they should increase their prices
YANBU - they make massive profits therefore they should keep their prices on hold.

getting a delivery of McDonalds to your door really gives me the shivers. I’m not sure how you could be lazier

I KNOW! Always makes me wonder who does it? It can't get any easier than driving there, ordering through speaker, picking up and eating in a car. You don't even have to walk :D

Nc830 · 27/07/2022 14:21

They made 312k profit per restaurant. I would say a good portion of that is paid to tax

Nc830 · 27/07/2022 14:21

@xogossipgirlxo crazy isn’t it! It’s almost as if every person on this planet has a car! Can’t afford one? Nope that’s not a problem! Disabled? Not an excuse either.

Squiff70 · 27/07/2022 14:39

YABU.

Doesn't bother me one bit if they add 15-20p onto the cost of a menu item. It's very rare we have a McDonald's but in fairness to them, most of their prices have remained the same for many many years. They might be making a lot of profit BUT they do help charitable causes and the cost of their own overheads will have gone up too - not just the cost of the food but fuel and energy too.

We ALL need to eat and we're ALL aware of the rising cost of living but fast food is entirely optional and nobody is making anybody eat there.

TimBoothseyes · 27/07/2022 15:03

Don't buy them then...there you go £1.19 saved, just like that.

girlmom21 · 27/07/2022 09:03

You think that's bad? Order on Uber Eats. They'll charge £4 deliveries plus add 20-50p to each item.

Yet the fact that enough people still do this (which is completely mad to me!) counteracts the argument that people will struggle to afford it!

Let's face it, this isn't choosing between heating and eating, nobody needs McDonald's delivered, particularly at such a premium

SurfBox · 27/07/2022 15:28

Also a lot of McDonalds are franchises so those billions aren’t necessarily seen by the people running that specific restaurant

Only a certain amount of mcds are owned solely by mcds I read, most are owned by a franchisee.

QuestionableMouse · 27/07/2022 15:32

The wages haven't gone up a penny despite the prices going up.

SurfBox · 27/07/2022 15:35

being able to buy a 99p burger isn’t sustainable and shouldn’t be something we aspire to. Meat has been too cheap for too long

how much meat is actually in it?

SurfBox · 27/07/2022 15:36

I have seen lines at the drive thru where you'd easily be there 45 minutes.

PoseyFlump · 27/07/2022 15:41

How much will they be when the meat tax is added?

SofiaSoFar · 27/07/2022 15:41

I think it's appalling that you're being forced to spend money at McDonald's against your will, OP.

GreenLunchBox · 27/07/2022 15:44

This is a bit of a mental thread, considering most people want capitalism. You can't have it both ways 🤔

Well, it can get easier, obviously. Getting it delivered to your door is clearly far easier than getting into your car, driving however far away, queueing and ordering and driving home again.

Amazed that has to be explained, tbh

The burger itself is 100% meat. The bread isn't.

I was expecting some sort of stupid response like this. Yeah, I bet 100% of these orders are from disabled people or those who don’t own a car🤪

That's what happens when Uber Eats and co charge 30% of sales + vat for their services....

Ooh, another one who does it and feels offended by those who find it funny

They don’t. There seems so be a new cohort on MN. Who want everything and expect everyone else to pay for it. Studied for 10 years? That shouldn’t qualify you for earning more than someone who didn’t. Tax it and make sure no-one earns more than anyone else.

DisforDarkChocolate · 27/07/2022 15:49

You better not nip into M&S, some of their food price increases have been shocking. I think ours will end up closing.

Actually they are "socialists" until it's about them giving something up😉 like with eco stuff

I've never ordered a mcDonalds delivery and I couldn't care less who does or doesn't.

You missed the point which was basic logic. The poster inanely stated that getting delivery to your door is no easier than driving for miles to order and drive home, which I imagine you can tell is wrong.

Then again, perhaps you can't.

TBF last time I saw such queue was in lockdown when it was only entertainment for people to drive to mcdonalds. I think when you order on weekends, waiting time for home delivery is also long.

gogohmm · 27/07/2022 15:55

It's 20 years since they last put up the price - if they had kept pace with inflation they would be £1.41 apparently
