Facebook 'Friend' who I get on well with is on holiday abroad. They just posted 75 holiday snaps on Facebook AIBU to think this is excessive. Incidentally they have dozens of random "Friends" so they've just told the world that the house is empty so please burgle it.

I think FaceBook is the modern photo album. People don't bother printing and keeping albums, phones run out of memory etc.

So it's probably not just about sharing (although clearly a lot do love to share) but for their own memories.

I put photos on more for my memories than for anyone else's viewing really.
But it's the posts of kids or personal stuff that people now share on groups , what's this all about. It's so annoying!!

I post holiday pictures. It's the quickest and simplest way for me to share snaps from our holiday with Dd. It serves as an additional back up too. My parents, MIL, siblings, etc actually ask to see pictures. They al go in one named album and posted once a day at most, so it's one post to scroll by - incredibly easy and quick for someone to do.

I only have Facebook friends and family who I know. I regularly cull so don't have people from random places I can barely remember. My family and friends already know I'm on holiday so no different to telling them in person safety wise. My account is private with the privacy set, as is Dd's account. We don't use our full names as our FB names and we aren't easily searchable on there. Individual posts and albums also have privacy settings in place. None of the pictures bar the cover one are visible to non FB friends.

I warn people that I will be posting and ti feel free to unfriend, unfollow, snooze or scroll on by. If they chose not to then that's their problem of me posting a message and photo drop once a day is an issue.

If we followed all of MNetters rules in what we can and can't post on FB nothing would be posted ever. It amazes me why some people even have social media they way they want to police what others post!

Besides I enjoy seeing my own friends and families photographs. The odd FB friend I have who posts 'too much' of stuff I do t want to see I have on unfollow and just check in every so often. Again - easy solution.

I'd just scroll by, maybe a half second sympathy that this friend can't be present on the holiday.

Ha ha! Comments like these always amuse me.

Like the posters are claiming that you can't enjoy a holiday if you have a spare 2-3 minutes to upload some photographs. It takes so little time to upload a post!

Do you seriously not have any chilling time in your holiday days?

I'm currently away. Had some busy city days, some longer 'adventure' days and today is a chilling by the pool morning. Dh and Dd are in the pool. I was reading and then got distracted by a large lizard strolling by so picked my phone up for a snap picture, then sat for 10 minutes reading a bit of news online, checking the weather forecast and then scanned briefly on MN. We often have a spare few minutes whilst the rest of us are showering or getting changed, whilst sat in the balcony or by the pool, during a train journey when moving locations, etc. I don't believe anyone goes in holiday and never has any spare time whatsoever!

Totally agree. A few pages back, there was a puke-makingly twee posts about how people who share posts on Facebook are ‘missing out on lovely family time’ 🤮 Seriously, we’re not living in the age of film cameras, where you’d spent ages eyml

CuntyMcBollocks · 31/07/2022 05:30

When I was on Facebook I'd post pics on there as an easy way to keep them in one place, not because I think anybody wanted to actually look at them.

Taking photographs does not diminish my holiday experience. Photography is a hobby of mine and I spend a lot of time and money enjoying my hobby at times. Some times I might just use a phone camera, other times it might be a good quality compact which links to my phone storage and other times I'll be using a bigger SLR digital camera and various lenses. Even if I posted 40-50 snaps each day it's probably nowhere near what I actually take or reflect on the time I spend photographing things.

Some people like to spend hours cycling, at the gym, crocheting, hiking or whatever. Taking photographs doesn't prevent me enjoying my holiday; it's often a delete rate part of my holiday plans!

And no, posting you're on holiday to your or privacy protected social media where you only have known friends on there doesn't invalidate most people's insurance.
