Port of Dover Critical Incident

AndreaC74 · 22/07/2022 09:27

Why are we blaming the french? they didn't vote for Brexit and aren't responsible for increasing/paying for extra capacity at the French border posts on UK soil.

Stamping passports is what happens to 3rd country nationals & that adds time, a lot of it, when dealing with 100s of '000s of passengers, plus having recently been to France, i ve seen UK people arguing with French officials because they don't want their passports stamped!

The UK seems incapable of organising anything at the moment, the numbers travelling across the channel is entirely predictable and delays we are now seeing were talked about pre 2016, i remember seeing the graphs on how long the queues would be for just a few seconds of delay for each passenger.... all Project Fear.

I've got no time any more for the non regretful Brexit voters they have helped to ruin our country for sweet fa. They should own the bureaucracy and chaos and are far worse than the mindless vandals that smash up say a bus shelter because now the consequences of their choices are smashing thing up on an epic scale.

100% agree. Absolutely sick of being sneered at for being a loser and then being told we should get behind Brexit and make it work.
a) Why should people who actually find Brexit abhorrent be responsible for making it work? That is on those who dragged us out against our will and stripped us of rights and freedoms that were infinitely precious.
b) what the fuck does this mean anyway? No amount of smiling happily and believing in this utter shit is going to clear the lorries, restore the fish, ensure easy touring for musicians, restore Erasmus, stop our farmers from being undermined, is it?

Bunch of bloody vandals.

Fucking scum and they know it would have been more truthful.

Yes, insults and abuse always very helpful and constructive.

It's this expectation of Brexiteers which makes them double thick like custard. If you don't like the public amenities, then by all means pull them down - even if you know half of your neighbours would like to keep them. That's not being thick. Just selfish.

But to then stand around and organise a chorus of "who's gonna fix this now" really is the definition of dim.

As France is a sovereign country, it's entirely up to them how they operate their system for entry to the EU. If they are able to arrange an "EU citizens" channel, good for them. The withdrawal agreement allows for it.

Ah, get the French to sort it out again...

I don't know the port that well but the news reports seemed to show the queues starting miles back from Dover.

For there to be any real advantage to segregating EU verse non-EU you'd need a dedicated feed in/traffic lane for "EU citizens and EU residents only" that started way back from the port facilities, on UK highways...

Any thoughts on how popular that might be?

The tories basically got rid of all their good and the great and demonised them and turned them into a version of Ukip led by an amoral narcissistic liar who has spent his time smashing up the evolved organisational structures of a civilised state. If this is the EU responses to these criminals tearing up the Northern Ireland protocol bring it on.And if you still back these fuckers shame on you.As I said scum and report and delete this post if you care. I've given up arguing our house is on fire time to call out the arsonists.I know who the real traitors are for Johnson shook off his security detail partied with an ex KGB spy with official papers whilst foreign Secretary like I said scum doesn't touch the sides of this one. If you don't follow Steve Bray on twitter then I suggest you do he trolls these bastards outside Parliament with much hunour every day 🙄

Sometimeswinning · 24/07/2022 17:58

The first few posts in explained there was just a covid issue with the ticket booths. Did this just turn into an angry at Brexit thread or did many just choose to ignore the reason behind it because it didn't suit the narrative?

SueSaid · 24/07/2022 17:59

'If you don't follow Steve Bray on twitter then I suggest you do he trolls these bastards outside Parliament with much hunour every day'

The frothy bloke with the foghorn? Hmm I just might give that a miss thanks.

I can't believe they're giving 650 quid one off payments to low income households plus £150 quid to those who receive ve PIP, which isn't a means tested benefit. They really are 'scum' aren't they.

Walkaround · 24/07/2022 18:00

@Sometimeswinning - this is clearly more than a covid issue.

Well, given that this is a drop in the ocean, and they have chosen not to tax the Tory donor energy companies, who are massively profiteering, yes they are.

Confirmation of that this was caused by Covid please.

Looking back at the start of the thread people here speculated it was Covid related. That was in the very early hours of the incident but ultimately even the senior French government official involved, who issued statement Friday PM/evening didn't use Covid as as an excuse (it would have been a handy one), he simply said the staff were late.

So take a mix of a temporary staff shortage plus peak holiday traffic via Dover plus increased times needed for passport processing due to Brexit and bingo, you will get a thread like this.

vera99 · 24/07/2022 18:17

A drunk Nadine Dorries at Johnson last PMQs shouting boring boring at Sir Keir. Have you people no shame at what you have enabled ? Have you no morals or ethics left or is it just mindless tribalism stuck in a rut of at least he's not Corbyn and riffing of a third rate Thatcher tribute act whilst the country burns.Hopefully at the next election we will get a coalition that will bring in voting at 16 , Pr which the Scots will lose and we can destroy the tory Party as a party of government forever. I will happily dance in that grave.

liliainterfrutices · 24/07/2022 18:21

Those on the ground seem to know what’s causing the chaos.

take back control, my arse.

Sometimeswinning - They haven't got anyone to be nasty to on the Brexit board anymore which is why they've all flocked over to this thread. Think they must be getting bored with each other over there. Same old same old ........

Never Brexits fault as the cult dissemble and deflects and lies. Its the bull elephant in the chia shop. Apparently according to its disciples we need more of it or a better version.Nothing to see here move along and was yourself in remoaners tears. Anyway my batteries failing so I shall to forbid you adieu. If I was at home I would be ready to fight in this thread sadly that can wait.

cakeorwine · 24/07/2022 18:28

Was watching the news this morning - and it had to be dragged out of the port representative that Dover does not have the infrastructure or even the space to cope with new checks, especially on peak demand days.

No doubt the Government will say that everything is fine, I just hope the MP for Dover has more success in telling them that they need to plan better.

But shouldn't that be the case for every country/Continant we holiday to? Europe, Australia, America?? Why is this only an issue in France if its Brexit? 🤔

Given who the MP for Dover is, I think there is very little chance of anything sensible happening on her initiative.

liliainterfrutices · 24/07/2022 18:36

The MP for Dover is telling the French to apologise.
Mind you she’s the one who joined in a demo chanting ‘Shame on you’ before she realised it was directed at her.

Bovrilly · 24/07/2022 18:39

@Sometimeswinning
If this is a genuine question, we have never had freedom of movement with Australia or USA so the necessary infrastructure has always been in place. Plus very few people go there through ports and it's much easier at airports. I flew to France a week ago and it was absolutely fine.
The channel ferry crossings have a unique set of problems and Dover-Calais is the busiest route.

liliainterfrutices · 24/07/2022 18:41

Sometimeswinning · 24/07/2022 18:35

But shouldn't that be the case for every country/Continant we holiday to? Europe, Australia, America?? Why is this only an issue in France if its Brexit? 🤔

Because Dover is the busiest port and doesn’t have the infrastructure to cope with the increased delays. That’s why there was a crisis with the lorries at Christmas. And that’s why they’ve had to build lorry parks. The port asked the government in 2020 for extra booths to be provided at a cost of £33 million and the government said there was no need. It’s all kicking off at Folkestone now apparently. It will be worse next year when we have to show visas.
