Covid positive - would you go to a hospital appointment?

Have been testing positive for Covid since saturday but have a hospital appointment today. Just tested and still positive. DH thinks I should still go because they are hard to get and we're now living with it. NHs website still tells you to isolate. It doesnt feel quite right to me. What would others do?

Isolate obviously. If you give it to your consultant, they're going to have to cancel other peoples appointments. What good will that do?

TipTopHat · 20/07/2022 07:12

Please don't. I manage a busy surgical speciality in an acute hospital, lots of our patients are oncology patients and sitting In a waiting area with someone who has Covid could be devastating for them. Rearrange your appointment.

sparepantsandtoothbrush · 20/07/2022 07:12

Of course you can't go! I know it's frustrating as appointments are like gold dust but a hospital is one place to avoid when you're testing positive

No she isn't. Her DH is

Zampa · 20/07/2022 07:13

Don't go to hospital. They are buildings full of vulnerable people and you don't know to whom you could pass on the illness. You could also send up taking out your doctor, making out even harder for people to get an appointment.

I'm sorry. It sucks but this isn't just about you.

DrinkFeckArseBrick · 20/07/2022 07:14

Really?

Follow sensible NHS advice, or

Take a disease that is potentially deadly for vulnerable people, into a building full of vulnerable people

Tricky

Babyiwantabump · 20/07/2022 07:14

At our trust we ask patients to rearrange appointments if they have covid - or at least call and ask as they may have procedure in place so that you can still attend but the proper precautions are put in place - they might move your appointment to the end of the day for example

milkysmum · 20/07/2022 07:15

Oh my god no of course you shouldn't go. I've just had covid and isolated for the entire 10 day period my test showed positive. I felt absolutely terrible and would not have gone out and risked spreading this to others who were more vulnerable.

dizzygirl1 · 20/07/2022 07:15

Don't go! Have some sense! 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

EV117 · 20/07/2022 07:16

Sure, go spread Covid in a hospital where there are countless vulnerable people, also passing it on to more nhs staff who then in turn can’t go into work when there is already a staff shortage…

No, OP is for asking THE most stupid question in the first place

Sirzy · 20/07/2022 07:17

Of all the places you should avoid with covid (unless so ill you need medical help in which case you follow all protocols) a hospital is surely top of the list?

Your DH is irresponsible.

But I have to say, if you've been testing positive since Saturday then how come you've not spoken to the hospital before now? Your appointment could have been given to another patient.

I hope you're not feeling too rough and that you're better very soon.

PurpleDaisies · 20/07/2022 07:18

How is this even a question?! Of course not. The nhs is stretched to the limit (or beyond) at the moment. The last thing it needs is more staff off with covid.

wishuponastar1988 · 20/07/2022 07:19

Ring the hospital and ask them. I had a growth scan when I tested positive and they wanted me to still go into the hospital but they rearranged my appointment for the end of the day and I was in a separate room.

110APiccadilly · 20/07/2022 07:21

Ring the hospital/ department and ask.

We don't know how urgent your appointment is - hopefully your consultant does!

I imagine in some urgent cases they'd ask you to come in but would wear PPE; in other cases they'd ask you not to come. That's just my common sense guess though.

Sallycorriander · 20/07/2022 07:23

No I wouldn't and didn't last week when I tested positive. I was lucky mine has been rescheduled for just two weeks later.

I didn't isolate completely, still went for walks etc, but I couldn't go into a hospital full of vulnerable people knowing full well I had covid.

PinkButtercups · 20/07/2022 07:27

We might still be living with it but it's the selfish reactions of those like your DP who are inflicting already vulnerable people with COVID. Of course you don't go to an appointment with covid. If you were in labour and had covid then it's completely different but an appointment? Absolutely not.

Heckythump1 · 20/07/2022 07:27

Please don't go, imagine if you passed it on to the outpatients reception staff/doctors/nurses, it wouldn't just be you missing your appointment then, but loads of people!
What i'm saying is, it's not just the vulnerable patients you have to think about when potentially taking covid into a hospital.

alnawire · 20/07/2022 07:28

NHs website still tells you to isolate

Do that then.

exLtEveDallas · 20/07/2022 07:31

You shouldn’t go to the appt of course, but I understand your DH.

DD tested pos on Fri she could go back to school today, even though she is still pos. Actually even sooner as under 18s are 3 day isolation, so she could have gone in on Mon/Tue. Those are the ‘rules’ now and it’s only advised to keep away from CEV people for 10 days.

I think it’s bonkers personally. DD has a clinic appt Thu and I have emailed them to state that I think it should be moved, as it’s very likely she’ll still be pos. Their answer was that she has to test first thing Thu morn and let them know. The appt is at 9am! If they had postponed it yesterday when I emailed they could maybe have got someone else in that is needing an appt. Instead if DD is still pos then the appt time is wasted.

Rhumba · 20/07/2022 07:32

As others have said call the clinic as they may be able to do a remote appointment if appropriate

redhearts · 20/07/2022 07:37

No.
I cancelled ours a couple of weeks ago we had been waiting 9 months for. They profusely thanked me for telling them and gave me an appointment for 6 weeks time
