Covid positive - would you go to a hospital appointment?

Have been testing positive for Covid since saturday but have a hospital appointment today. Just tested and still positive. DH thinks I should still go because they are hard to get and we're now living with it. NHs website still tells you to isolate. It doesnt feel quite right to me. What would others do?

Of course you can’t go, don’t be so stupid and irresponsible.

comealongponds · 20/07/2022 08:01

FFS of course you shouldn’t go to a hospital appointment when covid positive! Your DH is supremely selfish and stupid for suggesting it, and so are you for even considering it!

Lapland123 · 20/07/2022 08:05

Of course you can’t go. Im
sure it says so on your outpatient letter and on website. So if you can read that, then follow the instructions! I can’t believe you are even questioning it. You could take out the department for a couple of weeks.

kegofcoffee · 20/07/2022 08:09

Call them up and explain that you have covid but are worried about going to the back of the waiting list again.

See if it can be moved to over the phone or if you can go on a cancellation list. A similar thing happened to my mum and they called her the next week to give her a same day appointment because someone else had cancelled

That said. We don't know what the appointment is for, if it's something that could be life limiting or is time urgent they might still want to see you. But would need to know you're positive on advance so they can take steps to minimise risk

Your husband is selfish

there are many of us for whom COVID is still very dangerous.

In a hospital, there are going to be a higher quantity of vulnerable people than anywhere else. Plus, if you give it to your consultant or other hospital staff, that is going to have a knock on effect for other people's appointments/treatment.

Do you have to see your consultant face to face? Or could you ask for a phone/video consultation instead?

tobi21 · 20/07/2022 08:17

@PurpleDaisies yes but in this instance it isn't an emergency. Talking about things that can wait

My teacher friends are told they should attend work after a certain number if days even if testing positive ( as long as not unwell, obviously), as was a friend who is an ICU nurse.

NHS staff can only return day 10 if still testing positive and haven’t had 2 negative LFT.

legosunqueen · 20/07/2022 08:23

Obviously don't go!

Yummiliscious · 20/07/2022 08:23

I work in an NHS hospital - Do not come .

onlythreenow · 20/07/2022 08:24

A hospital is the last place I would be going with covid!!!

TitoMojito · 20/07/2022 08:27

Definitely don’t go. The hospital is full of sick people, people who might not be able to fight off COVID.

TenoringBehind · 20/07/2022 08:28

of course you can’t go!

BeyondMyWits · 20/07/2022 08:29

Ring them up and ask. They may have procedures in place... they may not... just ask...

RoseAndRose · 20/07/2022 08:30

Ring the unit, and only go in if they tell you they can manage an infectious person safely.

Not fair on either staff or other patients to do otherwise.

sammylady37 · 20/07/2022 08:31

Jesus Christ. Are people really this stupid and selfish?

megletthesecond · 20/07/2022 08:31

Of course you should cancel.
If you make NHS staff ill then other appointments will have to be cancelled.

Anothernamechangeplease · 20/07/2022 08:33

I'm amazed that you have to ask.

You clearly know that it would be the wrong thing to do, so why are you even considering it?

Prescottdanni123 · 20/07/2022 08:34

@tobi21

That is why I said that OP could ask to have a telephone or video appointment instead, if that is doable. That way she can keep her appointment but not have to enter the hospital.

Echobelly · 20/07/2022 08:36

No, do not go. I tested + on Monday and cancelled a face-to-face GP appointment for something else, as healthcare settings are the last place you should be going if you have COVID and are being seen about something else.

LIZS · 20/07/2022 08:41

It is minimum 5 days from day after test, so no you are Day 4 and positive. They will not want you to attend.

TheGoogleMum · 20/07/2022 08:43

Ring and ask! In my department in some very urgent situations we will still see positive cases but need to know so we can wear correct PPE and let vulnerable staff avoid if we can. If it is something non urgent they will probably rearrange

newbiename · 20/07/2022 08:43

No of course you shouldn't go.

AlisonDonut · 20/07/2022 08:43

Jesus wept.

35hjnjknku · 20/07/2022 08:43

This is an operation and obviously cannot be done remotely. I had called them earlier in the week but was advised to wait till the morning. I will not be going but was wondering whether others see it the same as me or DH.
