Covid positive - would you go to a hospital appointment?

Have been testing positive for Covid since saturday but have a hospital appointment today. Just tested and still positive. DH thinks I should still go because they are hard to get and we're now living with it. NHs website still tells you to isolate. It doesnt feel quite right to me. What would others do?

I didn’t update the thread. Good decision. Your husband is very, very selfish.

WomenFootyPlayersSpitLess · 20/07/2022 10:03

it’s not about you OP. Think of the damage you could do.

@JellyBellyNelly and thats what am concerned about.

I can well understand.

I have a cousin who’s husband was classed as vulnerable because of chest problems and she wanted the world to stop turning during Covid to protect him (and others) but she just didn’t give a stuff about all the other casualties of Covid because hospital appts were cancelled etc.

Ive accepted my situation but it will be a long time before I spend any time with her again.

SarahSissions · 20/07/2022 10:08

Stay at home. If in doubt call the hospital, but yeah you shouldn’t be going

GrapefruitGin · 20/07/2022 10:08

OP, it depends what the appointment is for. I attended an appointment a few days after testing positive but unfortunately had no choice. Hospital were aware. Call and explain as others have suggested?

Thinkingblonde · 20/07/2022 10:10

Your post is confusing. Your husband is the unreasonable one not you . But in a way you are. I voted unreasonable but then changed it then changed it back.
I voted unreasonable in the end because you’re unreasonable to even question if you should cancel. Of course you should cancel.
I had to cancel, I didn’t have to wait long for a new appt.

balalake · 20/07/2022 10:25

Good outcome that it has been rescheduled. Glad to know you care about others.

PinkButtercups · 20/07/2022 07:27

We might still be living with it but it's the selfish reactions of those like your DP who are inflicting already vulnerable people with COVID. Of course you don't go to an appointment with covid. If you were in labour and had covid then it's completely different but an appointment? Absolutely not.

If you could get another appointment a week later, all the outrage on here would be justified. But you don't know how long the OP has been waiting, or how long they'd have to wait for another appointment. It could be next year!

Phoning and asking is the best option in these cases, in case accommodations can be made.

riesenrad · 20/07/2022 10:27

Glad to see they've rescheduled the OP for next week.

SofiaSoFar · 20/07/2022 10:28

Surely if you turned up for an operation they'd test you, find you're positive, then send you away anyway?

Somethingneedstochange · 20/07/2022 10:29

No definitely don't go you might pass it on to someone visiting a cancer patient who then passes it onto them. Your entering a building with multiple sick people in who's immunity is likely to be low.

35hjnjknku · 20/07/2022 10:31

@SofiaSoFar I've attended quite a few things so far and have never been tested for Covid not for screening or biopsies or anything like that. DH is basically concerned that if treatment is delayed, am in trouble. But I wont be going anyway

OP posts:
Jennybeans401 · 20/07/2022 10:31

No no no. Stay home and risk giving it to someone more vulnerable.

MikeWozniaksMoustache · 20/07/2022 10:33

The hospital has told you to wait until the morning to see if you’re testing negative. The implication that if you’re positive the morning of the op they’ll reschedule. I’m not sure why you needed to ask on here then?

Are the hospitals not doing tests a few days prior and asking to isolate anymore? They still are in my district.

hoorayandupsherises · 20/07/2022 10:40

I hope your operation goes well next week and, although I don't agree with your DH, it sounds like his concern for you was making him think a bit irrationally.

Léighméleabhair · 20/07/2022 10:41

My friend’s DH is in the middle of a course of Chemo treatment and tested positive for Covid so couldn’t go in for his scheduled appointment.

Luckily, he wasn’t very ill with the Covid and was able to get his chemo done the following Monday instead, so not a huge delay.

IrishEyesNotSmiling · 20/07/2022 10:43

Haven't rtft, sorry if this point has already been raised, but it isn't just about how passing covid on may affect others is it? Covid may well have an affect on how well you handle, and recover from, the op so it's potentially best for you to cancel until sure the virus has cleared.

CaptainMyCaptain · 20/07/2022 10:44

I voted YANBU in that you are not being unreasonable to disagree with your husband but most people seem to have interpreted it differently.

I had an audiology appointment which was on Day 5 of Covid. I phoned them and they rearranged the appointment. You should do the same.

CaptainMyCaptain · 20/07/2022 10:45

Sorry, didn't read the whole thread and it seems to have been resolved.

beethecrackon24995 · 20/07/2022 12:00

I had an urgent hospital appointment booked for tomorrow (bloods pre ct lung scan) but called and told them despite being day 11 I still have a positive test so has been moved to Tuesday. They are calling me Monday to check in to see how I am. I'm not happy about going to a hospital with positive covid test. My take on it is if I'm seriously ill what difference does a few days make so my tests are put back a bit

uncomfortablydumb53 · 20/07/2022 12:07

Just.., Don't

I'm so sorry that you are in this position, what a worry for you for your own health. My mum is currently going through cancer treatment and I'm sure you understand how devastating it would be for all the the patients waiting for their ops if a full theatre worth of staff had tested positive and had to cancel 10 days worth of operations.
The waiting for the operation was the worst part as you are in limbo before any other treatment can begin and I thank you for being sensible and honest even though it will no doubt cause you another 6 weeks of worry and anxiety.

Take care and be kind to yourself

That's interesting regarding lack of testing. Both of my parents have had surgery in the past 6 months and were tested before the day of their ops and then again when they arrived at hospital.

I totally understand your DH's point, though, by the way.

I hope you get the treatment you need next week and that things go well. Flowers

Icanstillrecallourlastsummer · 20/07/2022 15:05

I wouldn't go to a hospital with Covid. They already have so many staffing issues due to this, they don't need more. Plus all the CEV people around. Yes we are meant to be living with it, but still need to exercise some common sense.

LibrariesGiveUsPower · 20/07/2022 15:08

No way.

you don’t have to isolate but to deliberately take it into a building filled with ill people and staff who are stretched beyond anything is just wrong.
