Covid positive - would you go to a hospital appointment?

Have been testing positive for Covid since saturday but have a hospital appointment today. Just tested and still positive. DH thinks I should still go because they are hard to get and we're now living with it. NHs website still tells you to isolate. It doesnt feel quite right to me. What would others do?

My trust, particularly says on my appointment letters, not to attend if you have Covid or in close contact with a person with Covid. You have to call and rearrange the appointment if you require face to face, or they may offer a telephone appointment.

Electriq · 20/07/2022 07:39

Your appointment letter would have told you NOT to attend with covid symptoms or covid positive, they will fit you back in relatively fast, I was having surgery and only waited an additional 16 days.

tobi21 · 20/07/2022 07:39

how is this even a question? you aren't supposed to enter a hospital if you even have covid symptoms never mind a positive test, would be insanely selfish to go

SheWoreYellow · 20/07/2022 07:40

You will probably not have to wait as long as usual for another appointment, so many people have covid that there will be lots of cancellations.

Pottedpalm · 20/07/2022 07:40

My teacher friends are told they should attend work after a certain number if days even if testing positive ( as long as not unwell, obviously), as was a friend who is an ICU nurse.

Ducksinthebath · 20/07/2022 07:41

Why are you asking randoms on the internet? Check your appointment letter, check your hospital’s website, phone your hospital - in that order.

If only…

MintJulia · 20/07/2022 07:41

Do as the doctors advise and isolate of course.

MrsElijahMikaelson1 · 20/07/2022 07:42

You should have phoned them on Monday so they could have given your appointment to someone else on the waiting list; you”ve been really selfish, you were never going to be negative by today.
and no, don’t go-because then you could add stupid to the list. You could give it to someone vulnerable and they could die.

Aprilx · 20/07/2022 07:43

I am in favour of getting on with life now too, but no, I would not go to a hospital appointment. They tell you not to, so don’t.

PMAmostofthetime · 20/07/2022 07:43

NHS still wear face masks and use all precautions.
The advice is not to attend any medical setting with Covid.
Very vulnerable people will need to be at that hospital. Call them and explain.

When I have to call we were given a new appointment for the following week.

That’s not quite true. People can and should still seek medical help in emergencies even if you’ve also got covid. Hospitals will have procedures for dealing with this. Routine clinic appointments don’t fall under this category.

That will rely on people not waiting until the day of the appointment to cancel!

TimeToGoUpAGear · 20/07/2022 07:46

If you go, you are basically saying you couldn't care less if you pass it on to the many vulnerable people there. Covid is still very serious for cancer and transplant patients, for example, and there are a lot more of them at a hospital than in the parts of life where we carry on!!

PLEASE DO NOT GO. You could be responsible for the death of vulnerable patients.

Fireflygal · 20/07/2022 07:46

Don't go but can you ask for it to be online/phone call?

YouCantSpellAmericaWithoutErica · 20/07/2022 07:46

Well your choices are: follow the advice from the NHS, who, it’s reasonable to assume know about this kind of thing. Or do as your husband says. Who is being a selfish twat and presumably doesn’t know about this kind of thing.

Tricky.

converseandjeans · 20/07/2022 07:47

I waited several months for a hospital appointment. Got covid and they did a phone appointment. It would be really selfish to go.

Lizzy1980 · 20/07/2022 07:47

I wouldn’t even attend a hospital appointment if I had a bad cold

Themintwiththehole · 20/07/2022 07:49

Ring the hospital and ask. If it is an urgent appointment they may still want you to go. This happened to us with my son. The hospital said it was important for him still to attend, and that they had covid protocols in place.

PandaOrLion · 20/07/2022 07:50

A friend found a breast lump recently, and tested positive a few days before the hospital appt for it. She rang them and they did half the appointment over the phone (taking details, history etc) and then did the physical side at another time. You won’t be the first person it’s happened to so ring and ask them what they suggest as a rearrangement.

Moomoo75 · 20/07/2022 07:51

NO absolutely not. Madness to consider going.

NoSquirrels · 20/07/2022 07:52

It sucks to have to rearrange but to be honest you should have done it on Monday. Of course you shouldn’t go if you’re testing positive.

Jossfromtenko · 20/07/2022 07:53

He sounds like an all round price. Hopefully none of his family will die from a selfish prick like him.

misskatamari · 20/07/2022 07:57

Of course you can't go. Ring and cancel, depending on what it is, they might be able to offer you a phone appointment (this happened to us with an appointment for DS last week, when i had covid), or hopefully an in person cancellation. I know it sucks, we've had to cancel a few things this time round, but it's unforgivable to knowingly go and infect people who are vulnerable/medical staff who could be taken out for a week+ and the knock on effect to others

olympicsrock · 20/07/2022 07:58

Ridiculous! You shouldn’t go to a hospital with Covid unless you need emergency care.
do phone them though - it might be possible for the consultant to telephone you instead to discuss results or will get the ball rolling.
Please don’t put vulnerable others or your doctor who needs to work at risk.
