Literally panicking at my feet, to think this is diabetic foot!

OP posts:

I doubt ParmaLily will be back. I don't blame her, it's not easy to share personal health related pictures on the net and then get tactless and nasty replies back.

That said she hasn't pulled the thread which I certainly would have done.

Irridescantshimmmer · 20/07/2022 19:12

Both my feet are also diabetic.

I use a ped egg after a bath then a chrystal foot file wet to smooth the skin but not agressivly and not for too long.

Both my diabetic feet are more than happy because there are no cracks, I do have one toe looking at me and another looking for me but thats for another thread.

I use flexitol heel balm, its good stuff.

Both feet have been T1 diabetic for 40 years on 29th of August 2022😁

GettingItOutThere · 20/07/2022 20:31

how are you OP?

Not sure if you know what diabetic foot is, or whether this is meant to be amusing. Diabetes causes changes in the blood vessels if blood sugar is consistently high. Over time this damages the nerves in the feet - diabetic neuropathy. This can cause numbness, tingling, pain, or a loss of feeling in your feet. It also means that if you get even a minor injury on your foot or lower leg it can take a long time to heal, or may not heal at all because the damaged blood vessels can cause poor blood flow in your feet, leading to ulceration and infection which can then cause gangrene.

Diabetics have a higher risk of developing Charcot foot - a condition that affects the bones, joints, and soft tissue in the feet and ankles. It can develop as a result of diabetic neuropathy, which makes it harder to notice the amount of pressure on the foot or if it is being stressed. The result is ongoing small injuries to the bones and ligaments that support the foot, which, if you don’t know they’re happening, you continue to walk on, and cause bone and joint damage.

Blood vessel damage from diabetes can also increase or change blood flow to the feet. This can lead to bone loss. Weakened bones in the feet increase the risk of fracture and injury to the foot signals the body to produce more inflammation-causing chemicals which contributes to swelling and bone loss. Diabetic feet are anything but happy.

I don't think the replies were either tactless or nasty, the OP declared an illness which was not diagnosed and then disappeared when questioned in more depth re same.
I can't help but think she does the same in real life, but I do hope she gets the help she needs re her feet and did take the helpful advice on board, of which there was a lot, especially re podiatry, chiropody etc.

Really awful replies to someone who is clearly very anxious after growing up with a grandmother whose feet were amputated.

QueenofDestruction · 20/07/2022 22:39

As a type 1 diabetic I find your post offensive.

Have you RTFT to see where her anxiety and thought process stems from?

HappyDays40 · 20/07/2022 22:46

Why would you have diabetic feet if you don't have diabetes?
And I'll say again like I do on all these "what is wrong" threads where people post a list of symptoms and pictures. SEEK QUALIFIED MEDICAL HELP. Not a load of unqualified people on Mumsnet 🙄

Oblomov22 · 20/07/2022 22:49

@Dontwanttoberudeorwastetime
Yes we have. I've read every single post. I can't grasp the original, but referring to it, as something serious is offensive to those that do. I've been type 1 diabetic since aged 1, nearly 50 years, and I find it offensive. Nearly every diabetic on the thread has said that they do too. Are you disputing that?

I’m not disputing you’re offended. I’m just mentioning that there is a really traumatic memory that has been a catalyst for her concerns.
I’m surprised by the complete lack of empathy for her.
Her grandmother’s feet were amputated because of diabetes. She is now having issues with her own feet and her fear has made her spiral.

PestorPeston · 20/07/2022 23:17

@ParmaLily you have HG, so you are pregnant?

How are you doing now?

LadyAnnabelsTapestries · 20/07/2022 23:25

Wow projection much?

This is what I mean.

MissMaple82 · 20/07/2022 23:39

You need a foot file for them

No, conclusion based on the fact the OP has not in fact returned. Nor has she an actual diagnosis of diabetes.
