Literally panicking at my feet, to think this is diabetic foot!

OP posts:
anotherbrewplease · 20/07/2022 05:43

@Waitwait - most useful and interesting post - thank you!!

PlopPlop · 20/07/2022 06:07

Athletes foot.

Herejustforthisone · 20/07/2022 06:15

Wait, so the OP doesn’t actually have diabetes? Just drinks and insane amount of Diet Coke? What?

Probably trench foot from sweating in Crocs all the time. Which is painful.

cherrytree63 · 20/07/2022 06:24

@Waitwait I had the same, I'd had athletes foot in the past and this wasn't the same. I was prescribed Terbinafine for my fungal toe nails and the hard cracked skin cleared up really fast.
OP hope you got answers and treatment.

Oblomov22 · 20/07/2022 06:29

The thread reference to diabetic feet, as a diabetic myself, is insulting. I at least 'TRY' to take care of my diabetes. I have an annual foot check. And the moment I see any problem, foot or otherwise, I'm on to GP.

This is not the same. It's like one of those tv programmes, dr pimple popper or something: Yeah ... I've had this humongous lump for eight years now and I've done nothing about it but now can't walk. Hmm

Not that I know of but I am worried as since I had HG I drink 8 cans of Diet Coke a day :/

8 cans of Diet Coke a day? You might not have diabetes but you will have done serious other issues as it’s so bad for you, have you not seen the videos of people using it to remove rust and limescale?

Go to a foot dr who specialises in this area and cut the Diet Coke habit.

Oh God you're not that woman from Jersey are you?

I’m intrigued who that is, but it’s not this poster, as A&E is free in Jersey.

iloveeverykindofcat · 20/07/2022 06:42

Pretty sure you don't go from callouses to amputation overnight.
More like years of uncontrolled diabetes plus wound plus untreated infection over time.
Also you have to have diabetes first.

Typw 1 or Type 2?

You are being ridiculous. Look up the sign and symptoms of diabetes, then be fucking grateful you don't have it, and stop wasting everyone's time

ImFuminHun · 20/07/2022 06:49

Well that escalated quickly. 😵‍💫

There is no such thing as "diabetic feet"!! People with diabetes sometimes get infections if they have a cut or graze that they font clean properly.

What you have is hard skin that has got soaked and needs to be buffed off. Go see a podiatrist abd leave A&E for those who are in more need than you.

You are incorrect. Type diabetic foot into google scholar, or any medical journal, and you will find endless articles. Diaberic foot covers a range of issues in the foot area caused by diabetes (both types), including Charcoat foot, ulceration, and plantar fasciitis

ParmaLily · 19/07/2022 23:46

I’m privately funded.

You don't pay for wasting time in aan nhs e and e, which is where you intend to go

OP is in the Channel Islands which are not in the NHS.

Flyingbymypants · 20/07/2022 07:00

Agree this thread is insulting to anyone with diabetes.

OP you don't have diabetic feet - you have manky feet. Agree it looks like trench foot from sweating in crocs on background of poor foot care.

The chances of you developing an acute bacterial infection of both feet at exactly the same time is very low - so I think it's unlikely you'll end up in a septic heap.

arrogantorwhat37 · 20/07/2022 07:04

and of course, the op has not returned with an update. Presumably they were sent away with a flea in their ear, and hopefully some advice about what diabetes is and is not

Well yes, this reflects the significant problems that people with diabetes have with their feet. But there’s no such thing as diabetic feet as a separate issue - i.e. in someone who doesn’t have diabetes, like the OP, apparently…

oooh. Which woman from jersey? Im there. Might know her!

PinkButtercups · 20/07/2022 07:07

Looked like hard skin to me, could be wrong though.

Maybe you ARE the woman from Jersey? 😂

oodledoodle · 20/07/2022 07:11

Hopefully it’s just dry feet and nothing sinister.

HauntingScream · 20/07/2022 07:11

I mean this kindly but please start looking after yourself. 8 cans of Diet Coke a day is not healthy and if you're worried about health issues that run in your family, please pay more attention to your overall self care.
Hopefully, you'll get yourself checked out and sorted then use this as a bit of a wake up call.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 20/07/2022 07:11

i think you need to wear socks, at least cream and wear cotton socks at night

BreatheAndFocus · 20/07/2022 07:18

Looks like thick, dry skin with a fungal infection to me. Obviously that can be painful if it cracks and painful to walk on but I wouldn’t think it was an A&E issue. Has it not bothered you before?

SpaceFarce · 20/07/2022 07:19

You’ve just got a shedload of hard skin and you need to go to a podiatrist, I reckon. What did A&E say?

georgarina · 20/07/2022 07:20

Diabetic foot is the result of years of poorly controlled diabetes, not the first sign in someone who doesn't have it.

It's like me saying I'm worried about second-hand smoke in the pub and think I have emphysema.
