Literally panicking at my feet, to think this is diabetic foot!

Diabetic foot runs in the family, my Nan had her feet amputated so you can understand my concern.

So she just woke up one day and needed her feet amputated? Or did she have poorly controlled diabetes for many years?

ParmaLily · 19/07/2022 23:46

I’m privately funded.

Please do not go to a and e. It is for accidents and emergencies and this is neither. Even calling out of hours is completely OTT.

Sarahcoggles · 19/07/2022 23:47

ParmaLily · 19/07/2022 23:46

OOH suggested going to A&E so I’m on my way.

111 tell people with a broken finger nail to go to A&E

Tillsforthrills · 19/07/2022 23:47

Diet Coke is horrendous.

As you’re in a lot of pain the OOH will be better able to diagnose than anyone on here from a couple of pictures, they’ll be interested in your family history of diabetes too.

Private A&E? Never heard of such a thing.

katesbushh · 19/07/2022 23:47

People with diabetes can get "diabetic feet/osteomyelitis"
But you'd have to have diabetes in the first place.
You don't just get the foot part.

It really doesn't look like diabetic foot either. It looks like you need to see a chiropodist.

IdiotCreatures · 19/07/2022 23:48

Not medically trained but that looks like a fungal infection to me.

katesbushh · 19/07/2022 23:49

And this is exactly why people wait 7 hours in ED 🙄🙄🙄

Ridiculous.

ParmaLily · 19/07/2022 23:49

Channel Islands do not have NHS. It costs to visit any medical department.

Not that I have any experience with diabetic feet but what do they look like when not been in water for ages

Gitfeatures · 19/07/2022 23:50

You don't have 'diabetic foot' or 'septic foot'

You have 'sore foot.'
Go to bed.

Tillsforthrills · 19/07/2022 23:50

I thought they might send you to A&E.

Many people die of sepsis and undiagnosed conditions so that’s your priority, not snidey comments trying to make you feel ridiculous.

OldFan · 19/07/2022 23:51

If you don't have diabetes then you won't have diabetic feet.

It looks like something else to me, but you need to see a doctor. It's worth the money for your health and peace of mind.

I wasn't aware that "thick skin on feet" was a sign of sepsis.

Channel Islands do not have NHS. It costs to visit any medical department.

That's a relief.

ParmaLily · 19/07/2022 23:53

And the wait to see A&E is around 20 minutes. Thank you to those who have been supportive. I am quite worried but glad I’ll be in safe hands shortly.

People who die of sepsis have sepsis. OP has dry feet. It's not the same.

IdiotCreatures · 19/07/2022 23:57

@ParmaLily let me know if I was correct re it being a fungal infection...

Duckingheatwave · 19/07/2022 23:58

Burnedoutdr · 19/07/2022 23:23

Oh fgs. Firstly if you had 8/10 pain you wouldn't be posting on here. Secondly you don't seem to understand diabetes or sepsis and are jumping to conclusions. Thirdly you are weight bearing in pic 2 so I doubt you're completely unable to walk. This is a GP issue.

I hate it when I see comments like this.

I was posting on mumsnet whilst laid in high dependency with sepsis, having blood transfusions and hooked up to IV antibiotics.

I'm not saying the OP does have sepsis but it's ridiculous when people say you can't have XYZ or be in terrible pain if you're posting on mumsnet.

Yes you can.

NotRainingToday · 20/07/2022 00:03

Not as random as it might sound, but are you a smoker?

Summerfun54321 · 20/07/2022 00:03

I had infected bursitis in my heal and it was very painful to walk on. Didn’t look like much but the GP sent me to A&E and said if I’d left it any longer I would have been on a drip. Sepsis can be very dangerous. It’s easy to be rude online to others but the whole point of MN is to share and offload. Glad you’re getting seen OP.

CentrifugalBumblePuppy · 20/07/2022 00:05

I’m a diabetic (with a dad who was diabetic & had forefoot amputations on both feet) & neither of us had feet like that! And he didn’t go from 10 little piggies going to market to 1 1/2 piggies on each foot stump overnight.

I have little knowledge beyond my own hooves, but they look like they’ve been macerating (if that’s the right word) in their own juices all day. Mine get wrinkly if I’m in & out in Crocs for hours.

If there’s pain, obviously get medical advice.

Herani · 20/07/2022 00:05

Dry feet and callouses. I suffer with them on one foot. Steep your foot in some dettol and water to kill any bugs, slather with Vaseline and put on socks overnight. Repeat every night until gone.
I sympathise with the pain - my heels and toe skin would crack from dryness and were beyond painful to walk on, but that doesn’t mean infection, just open fissures in the skin that were disproportionately painful. Rather like cracked nipple pain when nursing.

Unless you have a temperature or puss oozing out, I wouldn’t bother with A&E.

Gawdimold · 20/07/2022 00:07

That just looks like hard skin which has become soggy feet . Defo doesn’t want a hospital visit
