To go to a restaurant with Covid

User112 · 14/07/2022 16:06

Mil has covid but zero symptoms. It’s her birthday on Saturday, AIBU to keep our reservation at a restaurant for a family meal? What are the current rules around covid? We have been at inlaws house, SILs kids are still there (she looks after them and their schools break early).

NONE of us are positive, incl FIL. Mil tested because she went out with someone who tested positive.

If she feels well enough to go I wouldn't worry. Everyone had been vaccinated now anyway.

Apart from the under 5s?

Yerroblemom1923 · 15/07/2022 10:41

Well the 3 million anti vaxxers have made their choice.. under 5s won't be in a restaurant for long anyway as they get bored quickly. We really need to crack on with life now and start treating Covid like nothing more then the common cold.

Yerroblemom1923 · 15/07/2022 10:44

@Mercurial123 yes but you probably won't be too ill as you're vaccinated. People need to stop treating it like the plague! There's also heck of a lot of people going around playing the Covid card as a get out plan of work/life/ family event they really cba attending etc

I disagree. I believe in taking responsibility. It's a dinner it can be rearranged at any time. When did people become so selfish?

I'm triple vaxxed and I was very ill.

It's a sorry state of affairs when people need a law to push them to do what's right.

For what its worth, my husband and I both have covid now. We're on holiday (in the UK) with our dogs. We've cancelled all of our plans and have stayed in the cottage with the exception of early morning walks with the dogs during which we haven't seen a soul (we know the area well enough to know where to go). I honestly wouldn't dream of going to a restaurant, shop etc when it's very unnecessary.

venusandmars · 15/07/2022 16:56

I struggle to understand the selfishness.

If you've got a highly contagious respiratory infection (e.g. COVID) or a highly contagious gastrointestinal infection (e.g. Noro virus) STAY AWAY FROM PEOPLE.

Maybe for you (or the person you know) it's like a cold. But it's not like that for everyone. I'm fit and healthy and not prone to chest infections but 6 weeks after having covid I have a worse cough than I did during it (and yes triple vaxxed).

People with covid go to a restaurant, or on a plane. People around them are exposed and so are the staff. Then the people who had covid complain bitterly when their plane is cancelled because the airline is understaffed (because some of the staff with covid are really unwell), or they complain because the restaurant is closed or offering a limited menu because the chef is sick...

HuffleWoof · 15/07/2022 17:53

I wouldn't worry about it if a poster is getting married with Covid tbh. A restaurant is a drop in the ocean

ddl1 · 15/07/2022 17:56

I would not risk making other people very ill. Vaccination makes you less likely to be very ill but doesn't totally guarantee that you won't. And even those who are moderately ill may have their lives disrupted significantly. They may have to take time off work without pay (this may include the restaurant staff), which may also aggravate the general problem of staff shortages. Or they may have to cancel planned holidays. Sometimes such things are unpredictable or unavoidable, but postponing a restaurant meal by a week or so is hardly a massive imposition.

1 person makes every bit of difference. It only takes 1 person to spread to 10 other people, and so on. I’m sorry your daughter works for a crappy company but that doesn’t mean you should accept their treatment of her as the norm and encourage others to carry on spreading without a care in the world.

Except this is now the norm. There are many many jobs that now expect staff to attend work even if they have covid and staff who do not attend are not paid.

Why are you paying for them, OP?

I’m triple vaccinated and got Covid and I’ve been really unwell. I’ve also now got Bronchitis that started during my bout of Covid. People need to stop minimizing what Covid is still capable of.

It’s the kind of thing people do when it’s someone’s birthday.
