To be annoyed with guys walking around town topless??

Whenever the sun comes out you're guaranteed to see a few guys wandering around topless. I'm not a prude, nor do I want to bodyshame anyone. I mean, wear as little as you like on the beach or pool. Just seems arrogant that they believe women or girls are impressed or that other guys are intimidated and jealous

I hate it too! TWO men in my local supermarket the other day had their top off, it's SO unhygienic. Both had larger breasts than me, and yet it would be wholly unacceptable for me to walk around a supermarket topless.

If a woman walked up the street with no top on they'd be "asking" to be cat called, stalked, you name it. Yet men walking around topless is completely acceptable. Its gross, I hate it.

If it's ok for guys ti be topless, then can a wear my bikini top around town? No I'd get stared at or people would comment because I'm not young and stick thin, but fat men do ... double standards. Shirts on is a reasonable request in public unless at the beach/pool/park

It seems from this thread that Men who are not young or stick thin equally get stares and comments, so I'm not sure of your point here?

FabFitFifties · 13/07/2022 14:42

If walking around and keeping their distance, doesn't bother me. If bumping into me, or sweating onto seats etc, bothers me lots.

Harridance · 13/07/2022 14:42

What gives me the ick much more is any kind of thong on the beach. I really don't want to see people's bums

Abra1d1 · 13/07/2022 14:46

I don’t like it and discouraged my son from walking around shirtless off the beach/playing football in the park. My husband wouldn’t do it either.

I once saw a topless man in Tesco leaning over the apples scratching his chest with one hand, reaching for fruit with the other.

His chest hair fell onto the loose apples when he scratched his chest 🤮

D0lphine · 13/07/2022 14:47

Ick - put your pointless hairy man nips away!

craftsupplyhoarder · 13/07/2022 14:49

It's gross, no argument there, but I wouldn't automatically assume they think they're attractive/intimidating. They could simply be rather rude. 😂

ChampagneLassie · 13/07/2022 14:49

I used to think this. But I now live in a very sporty place and all the men I've seen jogging oast topless have quite frankly been the highlight of my day (FTM, stuck at home with tricky baby)

D0lphine · 13/07/2022 14:49

Bonus points if you're sunburned and drinking a can of larger.

MyNameIsAngelicaSchuyler · 13/07/2022 14:50

It’s disgusting and extremely common.

1000yellowdaisies · 13/07/2022 15:00

Its very annoying when men walk around half naked.
Sorry but even if its hot they should keep something on their top half in public....women manage it after all

That story has traumatised me! 🤢🤢🤢🤢

Naunet · 13/07/2022 15:01

It’s gross and should be just as unacceptable as it is for women. The worst is on the tube during rush hour, being forced up against some guys sweaty chest and armpits 🤮

Inthesameboatatmo · 13/07/2022 15:03

Because they can and its hot, ever thought of that !

Aren't we supposed to be teaching kids to be body-positive?

I don't really care whether men take their shirts off because they're showing off or simply because they're hot. I don't find men's bodies disgusting or offensive, so it has absolutely no impact on me whether they wear a shirt or not.

DP has sat on a beach in Florida before now wearing a baggy t-shirt and long shorts and not going in the sea because he was too self-conscious about his body to take off his shirt off like everyone else, and that made me feel sad. So if people feel OK about wandering down the high street with no shirt on when it's a hot day, I'm just happy for them that they've confidence.

Here bloody here!!

DH is like that these days because of the amount of women who comment negatively on bodies. Funnily enough he's never had a man give him negative comments.

Womenandwomenfirst · 13/07/2022 15:04

It’s irrelevant (or should be!) what the topless man looks like. And frankly the poster complaining about the “nearly 50” bloke washing his car sounds judgemental and mean. He’s on his own drive!

what is unacceptable is going topless near other people - in shops, on public transport or anywhere that is not the beach, a swimming pool or - just maybe - the park. Actually this applies to women scantily dressed too. Any areas of sweaty skin are gruesome.

Pocolovo · 13/07/2022 15:04

It’s beyond grim! Supermarkets and shops should ban it.
it’s gross and unhygienic!

darisdet · 13/07/2022 15:28

I agree it must be for the tan. Though I've seen a fair few lobster red. Ouch!

riesenrad · 13/07/2022 15:32

Any areas of sweaty skin are gruesome Indeed!

riesenrad · 13/07/2022 15:33

I’m happy to see a nice looking bloke with no shirt on in the summer

if they've got ripped abs you can see them through a t-shirt anyway

riesenrad · 13/07/2022 15:35

Aren't we supposed to be teaching kids to be body-positive

yes but sweaty cooked-by-the-sun bodies smell. As I said in my first post, if you get on a bus or train in summer you can smell a fleshy smell like in a butchers. It's really yucky and I am not even vegetarian! And you actually stay cooler if you have a top on.

MsFannySqueers · 13/07/2022 16:08

Reminds me of a former teaching colleague. She told the story of a school trip many years ago accompanied by some parent helpers. It was a very hot day. One of the Dads suddenly whipped off his top to reveal the words ‘mild tattooed above one nipple and ‘bitter’ tattooed above his other nipple.

bluenameblue · 13/07/2022 16:10

what about those roofers working and sweating in the hot sun.... swoon 😅

Mumabear170 · 13/07/2022 16:16

Personal opinion
It gross. It's just not acceptable.
Doesn't matter how fantastic the body may or may not be. As far as I'm concerned it's just not nice.
You see it everywhere. Even in supermarkets.
