To be annoyed with guys walking around town topless??

Whenever the sun comes out you're guaranteed to see a few guys wandering around topless. I'm not a prude, nor do I want to bodyshame anyone. I mean, wear as little as you like on the beach or pool. Just seems arrogant that they believe women or girls are impressed or that other guys are intimidated and jealous

I find it needless. Beach, pool, park, your garden, fine and do what you want. In the street, pub, restaurant, supermarket - put a top on. And hide that sweaty bum crack while you are at it. I say that whether a guy is fit and buff or not.

Discovereads · 13/07/2022 13:02

Yes it’s a double standard but one I’m not fussed about. It’s just not comfortable to go around topless as a woman because my boobs need support so I’d not do it anyway. But happy to see topless men. Being jealous of them is kind of silly really. It’s like being jealous they can pee standing up or don’t have to experience childbirth to get kids.

DillAte · 13/07/2022 13:06

I think you're overthinking things. You see more topless men the hotter it gets, the same as seeing more coats as the weather gets colder. The simplest explanation is that people wear less clothes as it gets hotter because it's more comfortable.

British weather is sort of chaotic. I can understand getting caught short and not having a lighter top to switch into.

I also don't think there are any laws against women being topless in public.

BuenaVistaAntisocialClub · 13/07/2022 13:09

I agree OP, men topless in town centres, walking along the road etc seems so unnecessary and out of context.

And why is it only British men who feel the need to do this? From memory I can’t remember seeing topless local men strolling through the streets in Italy, Thailand, Singapore etc - where temperatures are a lot higher than they are in the UK.

Itsbackagain · 13/07/2022 13:09

Are they trying to impress / intimidate anyone - to me (and I don't like it either), they're just hot and don't give a toss what anyone else thinks. Just like I hate seeing girls with those skin tight shorts on and the latest underboob trend - I think they look worse than the guys but it's their body so they can do what they want!

Julystheme · 13/07/2022 13:11

Hate it. My dad was terrible for constantly taking his shirt off.

It’s totally grim and it always seems to be guys who don’t work out so definitely don’t have bodies worth showing off… The middle aged guy across the road from us does it all of the time. He’s easily nearing 50 and is not attractive yet he does things like cleaning his car in his driveway for 3 hours shirtless like we all want to see his sweaty hairy moobs.

Gawd. Are only buff young bodies to be displayed then? Jesus, how horrible. If you don’t wish to see him or his body offends you, just don’t look at him. Insulting him by way of argument says more about you and your values than him and his moobs.

You are wearing something. They are not (on their top halves, anyway).

Not on my legs I’m not 🤷🏻‍♀️ Hence that choice for comparison.
If you don’t want to see it, fine.
But I find it weird that OP thinks it’s done to impress or intimidate.

GladAllOver · 13/07/2022 13:13

The double standards of this annoys me every time I see a man walking around topless. Women would be asked to cover up if we did the same. The police would probably be called.
But again it would probably be women who complained, thus insisting on the double standards. Men would be content to enjoy the view.

In this weather I'd prefer not to have to pull on a shirt to go out, but there we are. It's to please other women.

It’s yuck.

I always remember the time when dsis felt something furry on her arm whilst browsing the magazines in WH Smith. She squealed when realising that it was a hairy chest 🤣

Hahahaha, minging. Hope your sis has recovered

MissMaple82 · 13/07/2022 13:18

But your assuming they want to impress or show off?? Maybe they are just hot!!

Same sort of logic could be applied to how women dress. Would that be acceptable?

Like the rest of the world, they ould deal with it without prancing around half naked though

I agree it's a good trade off and same comparison.

I've seen woman wear hot pants type shorts that literally shows your bum cheeks guys don't usually wear super short shorts.

and woman have cropped tops nowadays so I don't get why the OP has an issue with a bit of skin

Hotinnit · 13/07/2022 13:22

Just seems arrogant that they believe women or girls are impressed or that other guys are intimidated and jealous do they? I mean that's like saying women dress to impress men.

10HailMarys · 13/07/2022 13:23

Aren't we supposed to be teaching kids to be body-positive?

I don't really care whether men take their shirts off because they're showing off or simply because they're hot. I don't find men's bodies disgusting or offensive, so it has absolutely no impact on me whether they wear a shirt or not.

DP has sat on a beach in Florida before now wearing a baggy t-shirt and long shorts and not going in the sea because he was too self-conscious about his body to take off his shirt off like everyone else, and that made me feel sad. So if people feel OK about wandering down the high street with no shirt on when it's a hot day, I'm just happy for them that they've confidence.

darisdet · 13/07/2022 13:23

I don't know that all will be trying to impress, as I saw many shapes and sizes topless in the city centre.

the80sweregreat · 13/07/2022 13:24

It is a pet hate of mine , even if they are buff or have something to show off etc
Most of them don't though

DillonPanthersTexas · 13/07/2022 13:25

To be honest most of the time it is a certain type of person who does this, swaggering down the street, usually carrying a can of beer and sporting shit tattoos.

Stop staring at him for 3 hours and go and do something else then. And what's with the body shaming:(

Agrudge · 13/07/2022 13:26

Theres no law stopping male or females walking around topless .

Although outside of a seaside/pool environment its unnecessary

Beefcurtains79 · 13/07/2022 13:28

It’s gross and scummy, I hate the double standards by of it too.

mackthepony · 13/07/2022 13:28

Very distasteful

So can I clarify is it that they are showing off their bodies and 'flaunting' them to show off how buff they or is it that they have the confidence temerity to show off their 'disgusting' and less than perfect bodies and don't care enough about what people might think of that?

I assume you would say the same about a woman who wears shots with fat /cellulite on their legs or with fat arms who goes about in a sleeveless top?

I don't particularly like to see a man without a top on because it makes me feel uncomfortable but if I am honest, I find women who wear very skimpy clothes also make me feel uncomfortable, whatever their bodies are like. These feelings of discomfort are my own issue, unless the person who is wearing (or not wearing) the clothing that makes me feel uncomfortable is actually doing something directly at or to me
