I'm getting married on Sunday

No reason for AIBU, just posting in a panic because it's supposed to be 34 degrees in London.

My make up is going to melt, I'm going to have a sweaty crotch, and my hair is going to be fucked.

If you've gotten married in stupid temperatures please post your tips to not be a sweaty slime goblin. Wedding is at 1, reception starting at 4, dinner at 5. Evening guests from 7.

Do I literally wipe and re-do my makeup at 6.30pm? I've asked the venue to provide ice ice cold water both still and sparking, and bringing iced bottles of water to ceremony for 2 young bridesmaids.

Im honestly tempted to bring a white cotton beach dress and change into that at 8pm. My wedding dress is lined lace 😂 which would have been fine in October 2020 when the wedding was originally planned for - note: wedding is now due to terminally unwell MiL so not really our choice to have a roasting july day.

Wtf England, you're usually 23 and drizzling on this date.

So to conclude I need advice on eyeliner melting, sweaty vag in lace dress, and to help children not faint in London on Sunday. FUCK.

Thank you.

I went to a fab wedding a couple of years ago and the bride and groom just changed into T shirt and shorts after the ceremony and encouraged everyone else to do the same. 27 degrees ,it was boiling! Get your photos taken quickly then change!!

I’ve always run very hot and pre menopause was always on the sweaty side. I also have oily skin. I’m not sure what your budget is, but these are what I find works best (after testing practically everything on the market).

Mascara:
Clinique Lash Power on the bottom lashes, and Bobbi Brown No Smudge on the top (you could just use Clinique on both though it doesn’t give the same length/volume for a special day if that’s important. Lancôme Lash Idole waterproof is also very good on top lashes.

Base:
Clinique clarifying lotion (3 or 4 depending).
Estée Lauder primer
Estée Lauder double wear sheer foundation
Clinique Super powder or Stay Matte, both pressed (I like Laura Mercier loose powder too but Clinique is better for oily skin in the heat).

With some bronzer and the rest of your makeup quite natural looking it’s not heavy feeling or looking (imo), but will last.

If I think I need extra staying power I also use Urban Decay All Nighter fixing spray.

Deodorant: Odaban. I would step this up leading up to a special occasion. Apply before bed with a cotton wool pad which makes it less harsh, as well as armpits I’ve done back of neck, underboob and inside thighs. Then use Mitchum or similar after showering on the day.

Fan: I keep a hand held (old school) fan in my bag at all times anyway, but have also recently bought a small rechargeable folding fan from from John Lewis which is £12 and is bloody brilliant. You could keep one with you, or a couple strategically placed near you.

Bit over detail there maybe, but it might be helpful 😊

It’s not ideal I know, I had the opposite and we had a storm on our wedding day 28 years ago, the blackest clouds I’ve ever seen when we came out of the church, some of our photos are very dramatic. But it will be OK and you will have a wonderful day. Congratulations.

Are you not?

You didn’t ask me but I don’t get this either. Literally or cognitively (in that I don’t understand it). I wonder if that’s why I don’t understand when people talk about chub rub either.

However, this thread has been brilliant, I often get a shiny face and makeup slides off so I’m going to get some of that blotting paper.

@doggygogadog my mam got married on Saturday and although it wasn't in the 30's it was late 20's

We all used, smashbox photo ready primer, elf translucent powder, MAC studio fix foundation, NARS cheek palette and Urban Decay All Nighter setting spray and none of our make up moved all day! Including my mam (the bride) and she basically cried all day, it was very emotional, I had tears too, at one point I touched my mams face and it was wet from the tears BUT her make up was still PERFECTLY intact! 100% recommend the all nighter setting spray! Congratulations and best of luck ❤️

I’d treat it like you were in the Caribbean. Little make up, tell everyone dress code is linen or cotton and if there’s bridesmaids and men in suits let them know to dress down or at least bring something to change into…

it Will be fab. I went as a guest to a wedding in heatwave, it was fab.

The wedding is on Sunday, bit late to start changing the dress code!

Rosessmelllike · 13/07/2022 10:27

Tell your guests to ditch formal frocks and suits and wear proper summer dresses and shorts, or at least bring some to change into after a more formal wedding. Or just go thr whole hog and have people in shorts, it'll be funny . Buy a load of sun cream for people to use. Buy summer parasols / brollies for people to use.

Madmog · 13/07/2022 10:34

We went to a wedding on a very hot day. The bride wore her wedding dress, had photos taken, but changed when she got to the venue. Obviously wear makeup, but I wouldn't put too much foundation on - that way if you want to pat your face with a cool pad it won't leave obvious patches. I'd take my makeup and just touch up.

I know it's going to be a hot day, but I woke up with the attitude I was going to enjoy myself, no matter what.

kingsleysbootlicker · 13/07/2022 11:06

This stuff is great for crotch/under boob sweat, just let it dry completely before getting dressed

I'm getting married on Sunday
ItWasTheBestOfTimes · 13/07/2022 11:12

Congrats on your upcoming wedding. I have hyperhidrosos and my face sweats a lot, even in winter. Odaban stops the sweating completely, even in these temperatures. It isn't pleasant as it stings/itches when you first apply it. You must do a patch test first too if using on your face. I've done 2 applications this week as I'm attending a wedding on Saturday. I would be lost without it.

JudgeJ · 13/07/2022 11:12

I recall having an Evian spray left over from an Indian trip and spraying my daughter's neck at the altar, it ws the hottest day on record, then at least.

chesirecat99 · 13/07/2022 11:30

I've been to a few weddings in 40+C temperatures.

As PPs have said, hand fans are amazing and look pretty, water misting sprays (just don't spray on your face), ice applied to pulse points (wrist/behind the ears), chafing cream anywhere that might rub (shoes, seams etc, even if you have never had issues before), talc, Odaban or similar.

DaphneeBridgerton · 13/07/2022 11:43

seriously hire some aircon units for the tents / teepee and keep the hog roast set up as far away from guests as possibke

Wheredoestheblackfluffcomefrom · 13/07/2022 12:46

Spare knickers, buy some lovely ones. I would t normally condone this but Femfresh. Not on your actual foof but, with knickers on spray between legs, up to underwear

Twinsandsome · 13/07/2022 14:00

what skin tone are you @doggygogadog estee Laurder do a BB cream which I use in summer instead of foundation and then I put on loose powder and setting spry and it doesn’t budge whether as foundation just slides down my face. I’ll try and get you a link to it. Also if it was me I would pack 2 wee bags with change of cotton pants, bra if possible and then a bar of soap face cloth and deodorant and make a point twice of going to toilets and taking off dress and freshen up nd dress again

tootiredtoocare · 13/07/2022 14:01

Are your bridesmaids in floofy dresses? Maybe you could rush out and just buy cute simple cotton ones instead. Or at least let them get changed as soon as the ceremony is over. Obviously, lots of water for the little ones. I have zero tips about makeup, I'm afraid, I wear it about once a month 😁

viques · 13/07/2022 14:07

I think changing into a summery dress /sandals for the evening sounds a brilliant idea. I would actually email all your guests and suggest they plan to do the same and make a feature of it, everyone will be more comfortable and relaxed and you will be all able to enjoy the cooler evening without feeling like a wrung out dishcloth.

AngeloMysterioso · 13/07/2022 14:16

CBA to read all the replies but I’d recommend

Benefit Porefessional primer
Estee Lauder double wear foundation
Urban decay all nighter setting spray
Mac blotting powder

You can get travel sizes of the primer and setting spray and if you go and get colour matched at an Estée Lauder counter you can ask for a sample of the foundation and they’ll give you a tiny bottle that usually has enough for a few weeks so you won’t have to spend a fortune.

You have sweat glands on the vulva just like on nearly all your skin, so yes you can get sweaty there. I find my inner thighs (kind of like chub rub but just sweat, not chafing) and the joint between thigh and vulva are worse, but the actual vulva can sweat too, especially on top.

InstaHun88 · 13/07/2022 15:08

I got married in 37°C. It was fine, my makeup did not melt BUT it was professional make up. I really think you should go to a professional, they’ll have very good products that can stand up to the heat. I didn’t have to touch up my make up at all except for a bit of powder around midnight.

LoobyDop · 13/07/2022 15:22

My wedding day was unexpectedly roasting hot. Fortunately, my dress was quite wafty, and I think the bridesmaids and I were the most comfortable people there. My poor husband and his best man had wool waistcoats and jackets, but they didn’t seem to mind. I think changing into a lightweight dress later is a nice idea, but actually if you’re outside you might find it cools off a lot anyway. I’d also consider messaging guests and telling them not to worry about ties and formal shoes (although maybe you’ve already done that for a tipi wedding. Also, get on etsy and get yourself a fan- I was actually looking yesterday, and you can get fabulous ones- ostrich feathers etc.
In practical terms, if you have time to change anything, make sure there’s enough cold beer and more white wine than red- most people prefer it in the heat.

Calmmedownn · 13/07/2022 16:10

Yes
Laura mericer powder, urban decay all nighter and mac prep and prime spray. I was going to say the same 3 things. All abit pricey but it will do the job!

Blondeshavemorefun · 13/07/2022 16:10

First wedding was Antigua and very hot !

i Had a strapless dress delib

hair up and not a lot of make up

def get a light white summery dress to change into

Tubs11 · 13/07/2022 16:29

guest at a wedding where the temp was 35 degrees with extreme humidity, tbh everyone was a sweaty mess inc the bride but it was an awesome wedding and certainly most memorable
suggest a fan for the ceremony and then cut loose after that

Summerfun54321 · 13/07/2022 17:17

Get a hand held water misting fan - they are amazing.

JustDanceAddict · 13/07/2022 17:39

I got married in 30c heat! It was v hot but the venues were air con and outside was shady so manageable.
i can see if you don’t have that it would be uncomfortable.
My friend did my make up and touched it up after the photos.
