I'm getting married on Sunday

No reason for AIBU, just posting in a panic because it's supposed to be 34 degrees in London.

My make up is going to melt, I'm going to have a sweaty crotch, and my hair is going to be fucked.

If you've gotten married in stupid temperatures please post your tips to not be a sweaty slime goblin. Wedding is at 1, reception starting at 4, dinner at 5. Evening guests from 7.

Do I literally wipe and re-do my makeup at 6.30pm? I've asked the venue to provide ice ice cold water both still and sparking, and bringing iced bottles of water to ceremony for 2 young bridesmaids.

Im honestly tempted to bring a white cotton beach dress and change into that at 8pm. My wedding dress is lined lace 😂 which would have been fine in October 2020 when the wedding was originally planned for - note: wedding is now due to terminally unwell MiL so not really our choice to have a roasting july day.

Wtf England, you're usually 23 and drizzling on this date.

So to conclude I need advice on eyeliner melting, sweaty vag in lace dress, and to help children not faint in London on Sunday. FUCK.

Thank you.

You’ve had good advice already for the make-up.

Knickers don’t matter, just shower later.

You HAVE to get this for your hair, hot or not. It will seriously keep it in place alllll day and stop it looking greasy if hot.

Good luck 🤞

A relative hugged me so tightly my hair came undone. I just rocked two hair styles for the day, it’s fine. I would go with something off your neck and, depending on your hair, some loose curls so if it does drop down it’ll still look stylish without getting hit by the heat.

Tell guests to wear what makes them comfortable. Definitely change after the ceremony into a lovely, light dress. See it as a chance to be a bit indulgent.

Don’t worry about wedding night sex. We didn’t have wedding night sex and most of my friends haven’t either. There’s plenty of time for that after (when it’s cooler).

If you have money spare (I know, I know) then I would lean into the heat and try to make it like the school holidays when you were a kid. I’d say quite cheaply you could buy a couple of cooler boxes and ice pops, include a moment when everyone has an ice pop. Have cooling mist/spray dotted around the tipi for people. Add some paddling pools (if it’s a field the water might get covered in grass after a few hours so you might want to change the water). Put some watermelons out (you can fill with booze if that works for your crowd) and have some fruit kebabs. The hog roast still works but you want something light and sweet too. If you have a bit more budget you can get cooling towels on Amazon and eBay and you could have a stack of those. Ask the bar to have a big source of ice and ask them if they can do iced cocktails like grown up slushies.

I had a winter wedding and the make up woman slathered me in make up that really didn’t suit me- it’s about the only regret I have tbh! So my advice would be: see it as carte blanche to be yourself. Wear your usual minimal make up and do the important photos first thing in the morning- yes, before you’re married.

Then just accept it for what it is and enjoy your day. Congratulations!

Spongeboob · 12/07/2022 21:12

Also urban decay all nighter setting spray

This!! That stuff is magic.

JorisBonson · 12/07/2022 22:15

And have an amazing day!

bakewellbride · 12/07/2022 22:15

No advice but I attended a wedding in boiling temperatures back in 2018 and the bride / photos looked amazing! You'll still have a great day.

Rachie1973 · 12/07/2022 22:16

I’m crap with make up so can’t help there, but I think your idea of changing into a light dress is fab!

have an amazing day! Xx

redlou123 · 12/07/2022 22:17

I was bridesmaid when sister got married in the middle of a heatwave a few years ago. As others have said, cooling spray and a little mini fan are essential, and definitely have your hair up. I'd also recommend spray deodorant, not only for your armpits but also handy for anywhere else that gets sweaty inside your dress (we basically sprayed our entire bodies that were inside the dresses - back, boobs, legs, the lot!). We also had a good supply of good old fashioned talc on hand as well. We put some in the toilets for guests to use along with deodorant, wipes etc and the talc was actually surprisingly popular. We also made sure we had plenty of make-up supplies to top it up as the day went on but to be honest by the evening, we really didn't care anymore! I hope you have an amazing day x

MixedCouple · 12/07/2022 22:18

I got married in Aug and I avtually wear Hijab so I was fully covered it was during a heatwave.
I actually opted for lighter makeup which was powder based and where I could use waterproof formulas - eyeliner / Mascara and Lipstick. I also applied All Nighter by UD.
I also gave my bridesmaid a cute little bag with things to touch up on - Laura Mercier setting powder with a small face brush. Handheld fan much more elegant then a battery operated on - nice photos. A small can of face mist.

Due to pandemic was a garden wedding.
But I did take regular "breaks" to cool off.
I opted for cotton under my dresses.

Aaaand after the wedding I also changed. I had a super quick cool shower changed into a cotton white dress all fresh for when I left the party.

We had a cool box full of ice with all the drinks placed inside foe the guests and me. Bridesmaid was tasked with makong aure I stay cool 😆 and to check my makeup

junebirthdaygirl · 12/07/2022 22:24

I am just back from ltaly where it was 34 every day and while it was hot it wasn't impossible. My hair wsn't affected in any way. I had a blow dry from salon before l left and it never moved. Granted l wasn't wearing a big dress but have a freezing cod shower in the morning before getting dressed and that will keep you cool for a stretch. Most important is shade for your guests..lots of umbrellas up around. And do change into a lighter dress after photos.
And yes to ice pops/ cool drinks. And tell guests to wear comfortable airy clothes. Have a supply of sun cream in case people come without.
Have a fab day.

Somatronic · 12/07/2022 22:24

Since coming off the pill for PCOS a couple of years ago I've had major problems with oily skin. My makeup would start sliding off after a couple of hours every single day and it drove me to despair. For me using a niacinamide serum has completely solved that problem. I couldn't believe the difference. I use 10% serum by the Ordinary but if you could find a 5% version it would be better as apparently niacinamide can be irritating for some people at first (I had no problems despite usually having very sensitive skin).

We got married on a very sticky humid day-if you can look half decent until the photos that's enough. After then who cares? Have fun and congratulations!

Ravenclawdropout · 12/07/2022 22:26

Do you have access to a hotel room or can you book one so that you can totally refresh between events? I.e. have a sponge bath with cold water (to maintain makeup) fresh underwear, freshen make up. Lie down for 20 minutes in a cool room? Plus maybe a change of dress? Being on the go for hours with no break in the heat would be my concern. Is there a cool room for kids to watch movies at the reception to prevent tantrums and break downs from the heat?

spotcheck · 12/07/2022 22:27

My friend got married in sweltering heat. Nobody could bear to have their feet in shoes for long, so I would look at fancy flip flops.
Mist people turned up in hybrid shorts/ nice top outfits and that worked.

I also recommend the cooling spray

Nat6999 · 12/07/2022 22:33

Take something cooler & get changed after the meal & speeches.

SomethingAboutNothing · 12/07/2022 22:34

I second the recommendation of a cool bath on the morning of the wedding, for as long as you can manage, should keep you cool for a while.
For your face I recommend la Roche serozinc spray - it's a toner spray for oily skin and I've found it works well. Plus the excellent urban decay setting spray. Good luck and have a wonderful wedding day Flowers

Shoemadlady · 12/07/2022 22:41

I got married abroad in august so know how you feel. Freeze two small water bottles and put them on the floor and fill your feet back and forth over them to keep cool.
Make sure you wear your hair up, otherwise it'll make you even hotter and look a sweaty mess.
Try not to worry to much, you'll have a great day xx
Oh, take shorts and T-shirts as can guarantee you'll want out of your dress sooner rather than later as I did! 😘

DrinkFeckArseBrick · 12/07/2022 22:42

I got married in intense heat.

We changed the timing of things a bit and had photos at sunset and ceremony a bit later so it was cooler

Lots of cold cocktails. I had an air conditioned room that I kept running back to and fanning myself

We gave paper fans to everyone

Also those shine control papers from superdrug were amazing at sopping up the sweat.

I go red in the heat and should have used some greeny make up in hindsight to balance it out

Can you get a fancy parasol or something

Hop27 · 12/07/2022 22:44

Hi OP - I live in the tropics, it won't be as bad as you think. Often go to formal events in mid 30's - got married on a hot day.
Avoid misting sprays etc they will cause havoc with make up hair etc. that's asking for your face to slide off and your hair to fall out. Complete disaster. Wear your hair up if you can/want to. Your MUA will do your make up so it won't move. If your worried go to your nearest beauty counter and get a good matt primer. Get traditional fans not the battery operated ones, that fold out you should be able to find a bulk order on Amazon that will deliver in time if you want them for all your guests. Wear liners, they will help absorb sweat or get nude bamboo knickers and change into your wedding lingerie at night.
Stay in the shade, where you can.
You could always get your pictures done before the ceremony if that's an option.
Be careful sunscreen doesn't stain your dress, it's a nightmare to get off white things. Kick your shoes off, dance and get changed at night if you want to feel more comfortable.
Don't sweat the small stuff OP, have a fabulous day 💕

Water sprinklers fun for the guests who don’t mind getting wet and kids will love running through them 😬

HelloBunny · 12/07/2022 22:59

We got married in a hot place.
This is what I did...

Light make-up for the pics.
Wash & go with hair, keep it simple.

Wore a summer dress / sandals during the hottest part of the day.
Changed into our wedding gear later on, for photos / dinner.

Wedding morning sex. In the shower. You’ll have a smile on your face for the rest of the day!

Your wedding sounds like a nice summer affair, so I don’t think you (or your OH) need to get trussed-up.

007DoubleOSeven · 12/07/2022 23:09

Also order some sweat block wipes from amazon and use them into your hairline and other tricky areas. Lifesaver for stopping Melt Face in this heat.

Superstrength anti perspirant that you apply at night is also a good call. Just make sure you skin is dry beforehand - I use a light dusting of talc which I then brush off. (Wet skin makes it sting).

In fact, talc is also pretty good for helping keep skin cool and fresh under clothes in a heatwave.

You can buy neck fans now too.

Congratulations and have a wonderful day!

IRunbecauseILikeCake · 12/07/2022 23:10

Bring a spare dress for the evening.
As long as you prime and use a decent powder/setting spray your makeup should be fine. Have a bridesmaid carry lippy around for you and extra powder if you're worried.
Shoes - if you're in heels, bring comfies. Your feet will love you for it.
Drink plenty of water throughout the day.
You will have an amazing day regardless, from a bride who got married in crazy temperatures almost six years ago xx

Twoshoesnewshoes · 12/07/2022 23:15

Great ideas, and it will be fabulous!
just to add, ask guests to bring parasols and gazebos if convenient.
get sparkly flip flops
panty liners in the fridge overnight beforehand!

Dogmum40 · 12/07/2022 23:17

Buy some driclor tomorrow, apply every evening before bed, and start it tomorrow night and you shouldn’t sweat under your arms at all by Sunday! It can burn and itch if your not careful but it’s definitely worth it not to have sweaty armpits on your wedding day

Have a fab day, take a few moments during the day to watch from the sidelines what’s going on as it goes so fast and as your centre of it you won’t have time to look around and take it all in

xx
