I'm getting married on Sunday

No reason for AIBU, just posting in a panic because it's supposed to be 34 degrees in London.

My make up is going to melt, I'm going to have a sweaty crotch, and my hair is going to be fucked.

If you've gotten married in stupid temperatures please post your tips to not be a sweaty slime goblin. Wedding is at 1, reception starting at 4, dinner at 5. Evening guests from 7.

Do I literally wipe and re-do my makeup at 6.30pm? I've asked the venue to provide ice ice cold water both still and sparking, and bringing iced bottles of water to ceremony for 2 young bridesmaids.

Im honestly tempted to bring a white cotton beach dress and change into that at 8pm. My wedding dress is lined lace 😂 which would have been fine in October 2020 when the wedding was originally planned for - note: wedding is now due to terminally unwell MiL so not really our choice to have a roasting july day.

Wtf England, you're usually 23 and drizzling on this date.

So to conclude I need advice on eyeliner melting, sweaty vag in lace dress, and to help children not faint in London on Sunday. FUCK.

Thank you.

So if you don't usually wear make up, then don't wear it on Sunday. You obviously feel more comfortable being natural, so go with what works. There's no rule that says you have to slap it on when you get married.

Siameasy · 13/07/2022 06:53

I got married on the hottest day of that year and yes I was a bit shiny (“glowing”) but make up now is amazing and it certainly didn’t come off. You will be fine

anotherscroller · 13/07/2022 06:54

I would do anything to have this heat for my wedding. Imagine you’re in Italy. It’s going to be absolutely magical and sexy.

Go commando and air your sweaty flaps.

Excellent general lifeadvice 😂

No there's no air conditioning, because I'm a silly person. We're in a field with tipi type tents all connected together. Hog roast and an open bar. They're providing big still and sparking water urns which is great.

So nobody would be dehydrated but I'm complaining that my makeup is going to look shit.

Honestly I'm usually a dungarees and maxi dress doc marten bird but I'd planned to wear make up this weekend and I'm such an oil slick it's going to slide off.

If you usually don’t wear makeup, go for the bare minimum and definitely take a light short dress to change in to! You’ll have an amazing day and won’t care trust me!

Bless you OP. I would be feeling your pain but you have lots of great top tips here. I particularly like the idea of bringing copious sets of fresh underwear and a new fun, floaty dress to wear in the evening after the photos. make a virtue of the conditions!
and have fun! x

doggygogadog · 12/07/2022 21:28

Thank you! Blotting paper and spare underwear is a good shout.

Omg I've said to DP it's going to be hot, and if he's pissed and sweaty there willl be no wedding night sex. We've been together over a decade!

I'll be too hot grumpy drunk Sunday. I'll offer a shag tonight.

Surely wedding night sex isn't compulsory in 33 degrees

Lol I love this!! Does anyone actually have sex on their wedding night? I was too tired and hot and drunk!

PortMac · 13/07/2022 07:10

Your wedding sounds awesome.
I got married in Melbourne and it was 39!!

I was very concerned as I tend to sweat a lot but didn't notice the heat really, I was too excited.

Your reception will be a beautiful temp later in the evening.
Lots of strong deodorant, primer for make up, blotting paper and pressed powder to stop the shine.
Have a great time 😊

dottiedodah · 13/07/2022 07:11

Many congratulations. You picked a good day .its our wedding anniversary! Well hot when we married too.had long sleeve high neck dress. Had lovely day .reapply powder often .yes why not have wedding service in wedding dress and then change into something cooler for reception. My sons birthday last week. Went to restaurant wore sun dress 👗 😍 instead of monsoon frock bought specially!

DeathMetalMum · 13/07/2022 07:16

Haven't RTFT. I'd reccomend the Mitcham cream stick antiperspirant for top of legs/bikini line. Works really well for controlling sweat in the area.

mistermagpie · 13/07/2022 07:36

I bought L'Oréal infallible 24 hour matte cover foundation the other week. It's not expensive, got it Amazon. Quite full coverage so you only need a tiny bit.

Anyway, my son literally blasted me in the face with the garden hose on Monday and it did not budge. I went for a run last night after work so had it on still and it did not budge. The stuff is bombproof! Worth a go if you can try it before the weekend.

It sounds quite a casual wedding (in a good way), I had one too - we got married on a beach in Scotland. Up until lunchtime on the day when the rain finally stopped I was fully prepared to get married in my waterproofs. I think if you embrace the elements and try to see the funny side you can make the best of anything.

faw2009 · 13/07/2022 07:48

Got married on a record breaking hot day many years ago. We had electric fans and also many of the ladies had hand fans. Yes, lots of top buttons undone and evening temperatures were great. Happy memories!

Blossom45 · 13/07/2022 08:02

Another vote here for Urban Decay setting spray, it’s a godsend! Urban Decay also do a primer for your eyelids pre eyeshadow which works very well. I know you said you’d be putting ice cold water out for the young bridesmaids but it might be worth putting water out during the ceremony for everyone, along with a fan (old fashioned ladies style fans). I went to a wedding in summer in Malta and they did this, it was so well received. Most of all, have an incredible day! Best of luck!

itsgettingweird · 13/07/2022 08:08

My original thought was wedding - photos and change dress!

In all honesty I would. Especially as you'll want to be happy and relaxed.

Other than that no one will know what you're wearing under your dress. Is be looking at some cycle shorts of some sort to keep your legs cool and not sweaty and rubbing.

ItsAllInMyHeadImFuckingUpAgain · 13/07/2022 08:10

You don't need eye liner.
Get individual fake lashes. 😊

Congratulations and good luck. It'll be awesome!

thethoughtfox · 13/07/2022 08:20

Skindenavia Bridal Setting Spray is the best and is specifically meant for brides. Use this. Are you doing your own make up? Watch youtube videos for make up for hot climates. Nikkietutorials is a professional and really good. She is all about full coverage make up that lasts.

BashfulClam · 13/07/2022 08:21

Get mattifying primer and setting spray. Take some blotting sheets ad you just press them to your face and they lift away excess oil. Don’t stress it’ll be fine.

goldfinchonthelawn · 13/07/2022 08:26

We got married on a hot day and bought lots of cheap paper fans which we scattered across the tables at dinner. People said they loved them. I would do that for guests. You could get a big stylish fan to match your dress.

I would definitely change in the evening into a really gorgeous flowing long but cool dress and sandals. You only need the bridal gown for the ceremony and wedding breakfast.

goldfinchonthelawn · 13/07/2022 08:27

Ice cubes rubbed on wrists , over the whole ear and back of neck are very cooling.

Pleaseletmeconfirm · 13/07/2022 08:42

I think it sounds like a lovely wedding. Hopefully your guests will be dressing casually.

I'd wear as little makeup as possible. I've oily skin too. I'd do minimal make up and blotting paper!

katscamel · 13/07/2022 08:48

I got married on an island that was about eleventy billion degrees - I had my hair up which I think helped and only minimal make up - I don't think it was too bad (except the choice of groom). I'd go for the low/no make up look and lighter dress for the evening.

Icanstillrecallourlastsummer · 13/07/2022 09:00

I would probably be inclined to have a lighter dress to change into should you need to, and flip flops or other sandals to avoid painful swollen hot feet. I would also go light on the make up and wear your hair up. The hottest wedding I've been do ensured lots of shaded seating areas (under trees etc, rather than in an enclosed tent) and had parasols for guests. Also fans are a good shout.

xogossipgirlxo · 13/07/2022 09:26

First of all, congratulations. Second of all, my husband is kind of "sweaty" person. I can imagine you will be sweating in 34 degrees like him in 25 lol. On our wedding day, he used the whole can of antiperspirant (spray one) and not even a single drop of sweat. It's just for one day, I would really consider this if I were you.

Are you having professional make up done? Mine lasted all night with all these primers and setting sprays.

xogossipgirlxo · 13/07/2022 09:27

Oh and he used his antiperspirant all over him, including under knees etc. Basically everywhere.

Wotrewelookinat · 13/07/2022 09:40

Our wedding day was (many years ago) during a heatwave in august. No air con at the venue. I had to let expectations go…hardly got any sleep the night before as so hot, I gave up on any make up, just did bare minimum, no foundation etc…all the button holes flopped after 20 mins, and we told our guests they were welcome to bring casual summer clothes, shorts etc, to change into for the reception, which most of them did. It didn’t affect the day and when everyone looks back they remember how hot it was!!
