To wonder why William and Kate don't walk out of Wimbledon?

Why are they putting up with Kyrious swearing and shouting?

Would love it if they did? Also wish Novak would complain about it?

He is spoiling the final with his ranting and his commentary. Can't believe Wimbledon are allowing it?

Wish someone would grow a pair and put a stop to it?
Wish they would walk out with George.

What a hot-headed and nasty character. Do something BBC.

Must be a young crowd on MN tonight, I can just about remember McEnroe’s very explosive antics at Wimbledon, now he does commentary on the Beeb!

IcedPurple · 10/07/2022 20:39

The Kate and William angle is a bit weird as I'm not sure what it had to do with them, but I was amazed at what Kyrgios was getting away with. Isn't there a way to reprimand a player for such blatantly disrespectful behaviour?

McEnroe was nothing like this. Not at all.

yes andrew castle has got a ribbing for his crap about kyrgios he gets fined but nothing changes

and hes awaiting being charged back home for assault

Where are people talking about Castle? It was really odd. Innocent until proven guilty of course, but such hero worship for a man charged with DV?

I think the invention of extremely accurate electronic line judges would make most of McEnroe's ranting redundant today.

I couldn’t decide who was worse, Djokovic or Kyrgios. Then Andrew Castle starting talking and I realised I disliked him more than either player.

dirotgea · 10/07/2022 20:44

He should have been spoken to about the swearing, but I'm not sure what good that would do.

I wouldn't be glad he didn't win because of it though.

Beelezebub · 10/07/2022 20:44

It’s disgraceful

limitededitionbarbie · 10/07/2022 20:45

I've not watched any of it! Is Kyrios like the happy Gilmore of the tennis world?

WisteriaLodge · 10/07/2022 20:46

SnowyLamb · 10/07/2022 20:14

The BBC commentary was weird. Andrew Castle seems to actually be in love with him.

He said things like "I known his behaviour isn't ideal, but he seems to have a deep kindness within him" Hmm

I'm sure the girl he assaulted thinks that too....Andrew Castle is an apologist for the foul mouthed bully.

Marraduse · 10/07/2022 20:46

"Grow a pair"? That's sexism. Sorry but I've got to challenge it. Stop discriminating against men by reinforcing the stereotype that it's a man's role to be tough when women are supposed to be just as capable.

CallmeAngelina · 10/07/2022 20:47

I remember McEnroe! And Ilie Nastase.
For their day, their behaviour was shocking.

IcedPurple · 10/07/2022 20:48

I must say, it was almost surreal to see the Wimbledon crowd cheering Djokovic.

They always seem to have it in for him, which makes me kind of like Djoko despite his occasionally obnoxious behaviour. The annoying Wimbledon crowd just have that effect on me.

Marraduse · 10/07/2022 20:49

Except McEnroe was VERY strongly warned and punished. Then, he was rewarded by the BBC for having behaved badly on-court but got his job there on the basis of being one of the tennis greats. Also, he's not known for being offensive off-court.

Yes, but they rarely swore and they'd have one or two outbursts every few games, not this continuous ranting through whole games and as far as I know, neither of them was ever charged with assault.

RosesAndHellebores · 10/07/2022 20:51

At least McEnroe used to get told off by the umpires and rightly so. I am obviously not part of the young crowd.

However, I'm not too worried about young Prince George, he'll have heard his Great Aunt Anne telling everything and everyone to Feck Orf, from the Dorgis to Cap'n Tim.

Marraduse · 10/07/2022 20:51

'Speaking' to Kyrgios wouldn't do anything but the docked points penalties that would follow would. I didn't watch the match but it sounds as if the umpire didn't apply the rules very strictly.

MikeWozniaksMohawk · 10/07/2022 20:53

He’s been to the football with his dad plenty of times hasn’t he? I’m sure he’s heard it all before…

meadowbleu · 10/07/2022 20:54

I didn't want either of them to win really. Kyrgios did get a code violation against him though and at one stage it seemed as though he had complaints against a member of the crowd being vocal during play, although his comment that it was the woman who'd had about 700 drinks was probably a bit over the top
😉

They both came across a lot better when the pressure was off, which, to be fair, is understandable.

I footballer would have been sent of for some of the things he said to the umpire.

WisteriaLodge · 10/07/2022 20:55

I don't think I've ever wanted Djokovic to win so much....

MikeWozniaksMohawk · 10/07/2022 20:55

And I was at Kyrgios’ match against Tsitsipas which was very firey. I was on the front row. I didn’t hear things which were picked up in tv. I doubt they can hear much of what he’s saying on court even from the Royal Box.

MikeWozniaksMohawk · 10/07/2022 20:55

on TV*

Marraduse · 10/07/2022 20:56

McEnroe and Nastase were shocking "for their day"? I don't know about Nastase but McEnroe smashing ice buckets and sending ice cubes flying into line judges, and destroying rackets under foot or by smashing them into the court was easily as bad as anything seen today.

MikeWozniaksMohawk · 10/07/2022 20:57

SnowyLamb · 10/07/2022 20:54

I footballer would have been sent of for some of the things he said to the umpire.

Leaving 10 other players to continue the game, not handing the match and championship to the other player.

And I actually meant he’s probably heard it all from the crowd.
