As above.

How does compare to what you pay please?

Couple of weeks ago I paid £58 - depends who does it (large chain, black & grey frontage).

I have it done very short and let it grow till I start finding hairs in the food or it gets in my eyes during karate class - about six months.

WhileMyGuitarGentlyWeeps · 10/07/2022 12:50

It's around £35-45 here for a trim and blow dry (north midlands.) I haven't been to the hairdresser for a 'blow-dry' for a quarter century though. In fact I have only been to the hairdresser about half a dozen times in the past decade (for a cut.) Last time was summer 2019.

I have cut it myself since, and also coloured it myself too, with hair dyes from Boots/Savers/B & M etc. Highlights/having your hair blonded costs between £70 and £85 at the hairdressers in my area. Box set from the shops costs less than £5. I think hairdresser prices are extortionate and I won't pay them. JMHO.

And yeah yeah yeah, they do blow dry it well, and it looks better than when you do it yourself. But as soon as you wash it, it's gone. Confused If, for the £35 to £45, it stayed that way for 5-6 weeks, it would be worth it maybe ... But it literally lasts for a few days. Ergo, not worth the money IMO. And as some posters have said, people who spend £250-£300 on having their hair dyed/bleached just elude me. I would never spend that. I can think of much better things to spend £300 on than a fucking hairstyle and colour, that will last a few weeks.

CambsAlways · 10/07/2022 12:52

35 pound where I live I go once every 8 weeks very happy to pay it

Anxiernie · 10/07/2022 12:54

£10 for a pair of hairdressers scissors. Put it in a ponytail every couple of months and cut the end off.

You're brave. I've seen these end up terribly wrong on YouTube

SirenSays · 10/07/2022 12:56

I was paying that 10/15 years ago

That is exactly what I was thinking... just dry it yourself at home?

I can’t blow dry my own hair and I assume some others can’t also.

AnotherAnxiousMess · 10/07/2022 13:00

I pay about £50, but only get my hair cut like every 6 months.

Why? Confused Why can you not blow dry it yourself?

Wexone · 10/07/2022 13:01

200e every three to four months for a wash cut colour and trim. and it's worth every penny. I often get my hair blow dried straight for 25e every few weeks if I have something on. I have very long thick hair which I can not nor have the time to blow dry myself. love it when a hairdressers does it for me plus means I don't have to touch it for nearly a week. I don't get this begrudgery of paying a hairdresser. they are not forcing you to pay it. they are skilled trained people some who have trained for years who have overheads to pay for and provide a service. didn't lockdown show how much we missed them. I wonder how reading things like these make haidresers feel about their jobs and how little people think of their job

AffIt · 10/07/2022 13:01

Glasgow city centre, £80 but that's for a curl specialist.

Fortunately, I only get my hair cut a couple of times a year at most.

How mean. OK.if ypu can't afford it. I have my hair blowdried twice a week
I can imagine being unable.to afford.it but in.life, I can't imagine wanting to be that tight Iver something so regular. I wish I could see your hair 😀

Perhaps the poster has a disability or limited mobility?

Disability

Can't do it because you're crap at it

I'm sure there are other reasons why!

Anxiernie · 10/07/2022 13:04

I used box sets for years. The issue is I either want my hair blonde or purple. When I used purple box dyes, if I didn't just get the roots when I redyed, then the middle to ends just lost their purlepness, they were oversaturated with colour and were just too dark and not bright. To get the bright purple, I'd need to bleach the ends first then put the colour on. Or just get the roots which is hard, and you can end up with "hot roots" where the roots are much brighter than the rest of your hair.

To be blonde, I have used many box jobs at home and it ruined my hair. I end up going orange or yellow, and once I am the light blonde I want to be, I eventually have to do the roots... And I can't just get the roots! And then my roots are a different shade of blonde (or yellow) compared to the rest of my hair. Horrible. I melted the ends off one time because I couldn't get it how I wanted it and over bleached it. Tried to tone it with purple shampoo and it all went grey/lilac from how damaged it was. I had to cut it all off.

So, I'm done with box dye. I started paying to get my roots bleached and then toned to match my hair because I couldn't get that result at home. Too much effort to try and just get the roots and goes wrong for me every time.

Now, I am aiming for a balayage look which lasts months and months btw (not a few weeks) as it's low-maintenance. My hair is a bit short for it atm so when my darker roots show too much, I get root highlights to blend to my bleached hair. Then when my hair is longer it will be balayaged.

It's well worth the money to me. Being happy with my hair is important to me.

It as very easy to box dye my hair when I had a pixie cut as a teen, or box bleach it, the damage didn't really matter because it would grow out and get cut off so quickly to maintain the short cut. But I want long hair now.

Because a ‘blow dry’ from a hairdresser with a rounded brush and their trained hands is very different from rough drying it yourself with a hairdryer.

A blow dry has you leaving the salon with bouncy beautiful Kate Middleton hair. It’s not comparable with just blasting it off at home!

Violet790 · 10/07/2022 13:06

My salon - £70 for a full head of colour, cut and blow dry. It's just gone up as well- was £60.

Suprima · 10/07/2022 13:07

I pay £45 for wash, cut and blow dry in zone 2 London. Not an upmarket salon but clean and nice enough. A fancy place would be £70ish.

i always time my visits with going out to dinner or a party so my hair has been done, and I get the most out of the visit.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 10/07/2022 13:07

I can blow dry really well but still can get it as shiny and smooth as my stylist.

grey12 · 10/07/2022 13:14

Comedycook · 10/07/2022 10:35

Yeah pretty much the same here in suburban London

Same 🤷🏻‍♀️

Bombshell101 · 10/07/2022 13:15

Had mine done for free last week. I offered to be a hair model and the salon has a great rep. Next week they are dying it for me too!
They checked I was happy with what they wanted to do and I said yep sounds great. I'm happy with it

lickenchugget · 10/07/2022 13:17

Very cheap

whiskersonkittenss · 10/07/2022 13:23

That would be £30 with the salon owner at my local in north Birmingham.

How do ppl manage to only get their hair cut twice a year.

I would look like I'd joined a Rock band if I did that. Mine needs every 7 to 8 weeks.

Can't imagine now how we managed in lock down but we did.

I'm like this - hate having my haircut.

Basically I have long hair with long layers so when it grows it just looks longer, rather than really misshapen.

I cut my hair into a bob twice in lockdown and it went so well (I have a bit of a curl in my hair so it's forgiving) that recently I did it again. Better than sitting through a couple of hours of chit chat while being primped and preened then walking out of the salon and tying it up anyway.

For some of us, our hair isn't awfully important, I guess.

Theredfoxfliesatmidnight · 10/07/2022 13:45

Ridiculously cheap. I am green with vomit inducing envy (London)

livelyliz · 10/07/2022 13:51

To those of you who are hairdressers, do you hate it when customers just ask for a wet cut? I am tempted to because having my hair styled is becoming an expense I can cut down on but dont want to upset my hairdressers
