I'm with 3 Mobile, unlimited data. Was paying £24 a month but it's just gone up to £29 a month, SIM only. I can't afford this every month, I'm going to cancel it even though I know there will be a fee attached. I'm only in the contract until September so hopefully it won't be too high.
Just interested to know what sort of prices people are paying, I'd like something with as much data as possible as I use it a lot, minutes and texts are less important.

£8 for 15gb data and unlimited calls and texts on O2 sim only. I get 30gb through Virgin Media O2 Volt, plus double broadband speed of 350 mbps.

girlfriend44 · 10/07/2022 00:32

£15 for 25gb and unlimited texts and calls.

I have never changed my provider ever.

So am I. Unlimited everything…. £16.72 a month, sim only.

Good grief! I'm with three, unlimited everything but pay way more than that. It's contract with upgrade latest iPhone every 24 months for free. It's £48 per month. Is that reasonable with the phone included?

DH with them too for £11 month not unlimited but more than he will ever use, can't remember what it is.

Kite22 · 10/07/2022 00:42

£7.50 a month Talk Mobile.

LemonMuffins · 10/07/2022 00:46

I pay £16 a month with 3 for sim only, unlimited everything. Have a look on MSE and see what the latest offers are. I like the price but I do frequently find 3 coverage quite sketchy.

£48 per month for the latest iPhone sounds like a good deal if there was no upfront payment. What model is your phone?

24 x £48 = £1152
Assuming that you have an iPhone 13 pro which is about £950.
£1152 - £950 = £202
£202 / 24 months = £8.4 per month for minutes, texts, and data. Rest of it is the cost of the phone.

Silverswirl · 10/07/2022 00:48

£45 for me and £35 for DD but we both wanted iPhone 13’s. How do you all afford to buy new phones outright? iPhone 13’s are £850 each!

I do too. However in some places, like where I am now, they are the only network available.

Trade in previous mobile. I received £470 for my old iPhone 12 pro max. This brought the cost of my current iPhone 13 pro down to £480

larkstar · 10/07/2022 01:02

iD mobile £6pcm for 4Gb but data rolls over so often I can have close to 8Gb unused when I don't use much one month - it carries over.

GreenLunchBox · 10/07/2022 01:04

£0 with virgin as an offer with my TV package. 5GB per month and any unused data rolls over. It's not a con either because they offered it to me when I came to renew my TV package and I managed to negotiate the same TV package price as last year but with the added free mobile SIM. So I cancelled my existing sim-only deal with another provider.

You are crazy to pay £29 per month. My friend has the latest iPhone with unlimited data, paying monthly, and when I read out what you're paying they said "that's a LOT!"

Who needs unlimited data anyway? Do you not work?

Well, people have the money. It costs money to be poor, basically.

If you have the means it makes no sense to pay for things like phones, insurance and cars in instalments. You're basically throwing money away.

There are many decent alternatives to an iPhone and I like (don't love) Apple products - I have a 12.9" iPad Pro, a Mac Mini M1 and while they are very strong in some aspects they are quite poor in some aspects - they aren't outstanding products in all areas at all - I wrote software for 20+ years and have owned a lot of computer gear.

What is it you really want from your phone? Look at the specs on not even a top end Chinese phone £300 - 5000mAh battery life and charges to 50% in 15 mins, 120Hz refresh rate, 6.67“ FHD+ AMOLED display, 128GB memory, 108MB camera, macro lens for closeups - it's loaded with good features - only £300 - it's be down to £200 by xmas no doubt.

BritWifeInUSA · 10/07/2022 06:14

I can’t believe these prices. I’m in the US and our bill for 2 lines is $203 a month. We will soon be switching to T-Mobile on their “over 55” plan as my husband now qualifies for that. Then it will be $27.50 per line per month although I believe there are some data limits.

We also pay $155 a month for Internet. And don’t get me started on car insurance…

CirreltheSquirrel · 10/07/2022 06:25

12.90 for unlimited data on 3, SIM only. It's a really old deal which doesn't have a price increase clause in the contract so I'm hanging onto it until they find a way to chuck me off it.

Londonrach1 · 10/07/2022 06:27

£6 a month plusnet. Enough data for me

blebbleb · 10/07/2022 06:28

£10 with 3. I get 30gb data per month.

bloodywhitecat · 09/07/2022 21:47

£6 a month - Plusnet

Me too! Unlimited calls and texts and 3GB data. More than enough when it’s connected to WiFi for most of the day

I don’t have the latest model, I currently have an iPhone 11 plus and but reconditioned. They are like new with a 12 month warranty. Which means I can buy outright and pay £6 a month for data only. £39 a month saved over two years on a contract is £936.00. The difference between an 11 and 13 for me is negligible.

Cervinia · 10/07/2022 06:43

Sorry for sim on,y not data on,y!

maravais · 10/07/2022 06:55

Three, £7.50 unlimited data and texts. 5GB a day international data, SIM only.

You could argue that if you can't afford to buy your phone outright then you can't afford a contract to pay for it in installments either.

There's loads of decent phones available for a fraction of the cost of high end iPhones, which are ridiculous money in comparison.

I pay about £8 a month to GiffGaff for the service and buy a new phone when I think I need it, currently have a Motorola G7 which is 3 or 4 years old and cost me the grand total of £75 after cashback on a black Friday deal. Plus I sold the old crappy Huawei that it replaced for £60 on ebay so my actual phone costs are currently pretty much zero, although I am getting to the stage where I could do with getting a new version.

Having said that if you 'have' to have an iPhone and can't afford to pay for it in one go you could get a credit card with a 0% purchase offer and use that to spread the cost and is likely to be cheaper than a full contract.

Drivebye · 10/07/2022 07:01

If your contract ends in October then I assume you will then have finished paying for your phone. You can then switch to any provider you want.

We have always bought our phones and then just done sim only however sometimes it is actually cheaper to get a contract. You need to look at total cost over the term and then subtract what you can buy the phone for and then divide what's left over the term to see what your actual monthly cost is. Look at mse.
