To send back that Jubilee book?

My DS came back with the Jubilee book this week. I didn't know anything about it (the Jubilee wasn't something that I was remotely bothered by) but apparently every family with a primary aged child is getting one. I'm massively annoyed by this book... It strikes me as an enormous waste of money, especially at a time when so many people/organisations/schools etc are struggling. I also hate having patriotism shoved down my (and my kids') throat. But it's mainly the money...

WIBU to send the book back (haven't figured out to whom yet. I'm guessing not the queen) with a note saying 'no, thank you'?

This is not an act of “protest”, it’s petulance that will barely be noticed by the recipient.

Whilst £12m sounds a lot we’re talking order of magnitude in NATIONAL budgets for what, 4.5m primary aged school children? divided by each school and on a per pupil basis it’s barely enough for an ice cream each. School budgets are tight (I know) but an extra few hundred quid does not solve the problems facing schools. Big ticket items like property maintenance and teacher recruitment and pay are the real issues. £200 as a one off to chuck at a stationary budget has little to no impact. You might not like it, as is your right. Not everyone agrees and it’s a memorable keepsake for some that is encouraging reading.
