Sanitary towels are atrocious

Had DS via Section about a month ago, still bleeding on and off and can't use tampons until 6 week check so using Always towels.

Have they always been this bad?! I remember using them as a teen with no major issues but these are awful! My vagina is trying to eat them, they move constantly, they're so uncomfortable that I keep wanting to rub the area (so I probably have thrush too!) and I'm pretty sure my baby doesn't have diaper rash but I do!

Just a lighthearted rant.

I think a lot of them are now scented which really doesn’t help skin irritation.

I find body form better than always.

KangarooKenny · 08/07/2022 16:33

Can you go onto period pants yet ?

ShirleyPhallus · 08/07/2022 16:34

Why are you using sanitary towels and not maternity pads? Try those, they’re not scented and softer

ofwarren · 08/07/2022 16:35

I never use Always these days. They are coated in plastic which makes you sweat and itch.
Try some of the cheapo cotton coated ones. Usually shops own brand.

B0ssAssB1tch · 08/07/2022 16:36

Bodyform are much better.

BiscoffSundae · 08/07/2022 16:37

I think they are fine, I can’t use tampons and not had any issues using pads everyone is different 🤷‍♀️

DramaAlpaca · 08/07/2022 16:38

Another vote for Bodyform. IIRC they are not plasticky and unscented.

Mally100 · 08/07/2022 16:39

There's either something wrong with the way you are using them, or you are not actually using the right sizes. They are not atrocious and many get by just fine. The problem could be that you need to be using maternity pads not sanitary pads 'that are eating you up'. Confused

Hugasauras · 08/07/2022 16:39

Reusables are far better. Normal sanitary pads are awful in comparison.

snowflake29 · 08/07/2022 16:42

Slim maternity pads are your friend here! Also I buy Always sensitive (in the pink packets). They're unscented and usually 99p a pack

Oldraver · 08/07/2022 16:42

If you want to use disposable, try own brand cheap ones, without wings etc

Yes they look bigger but usually have a soft cover as it's not 'pressed' into the towel

Thursday37 · 08/07/2022 16:42

The thin maternity pads are great, I still use them occasionally. Always are awful, give me thrush.
But it’s very much trial and error and they also need the right pants!

Curlywurlycazza · 08/07/2022 16:43

You need Tesco maternity towels. The thin ones with wings. If they still make them.

But I agree. I had to pinch a sanitary towel the other day when I had an emergency. It felt horrible and like I'd wet myself. Don't know how 15 YO me did it.

SarahSissions · 08/07/2022 16:44

What on watch is up with Always? I can’t believe they are in business anymore- does anyone actually buy them out of choice, or just because they’ve been caught out and that’s all the petrol station stocks.
they absolutely stink-I’m always paranoid tgat people can actually see the scent following me down the street like I am Pepe Le Pew.
I can only guess they were designed by a man who hates women and has only read about a ‘period’ in a teen novel.

Summernights19 · 08/07/2022 16:44

Maternity pads all the way. Much more comfy.

FancyFelix · 08/07/2022 16:45

Once I tried reusables I couldn't go back to always

SweatyChamoisPad · 08/07/2022 16:47

I think Always are trying to win market share by shelf space. If you look in the supermarket Always have about three shelves full of their product and everything else is crammed in below eye level.

dudsville · 08/07/2022 16:48

There's a company "Eco by Naty" that do nicer ones.

Greensleeves · 08/07/2022 16:49

I can't bear Always. The stench of them makes me feel sick, and the horrible plasticky feel of them. Horrible things. I sometimes find really cheap unbranded ones are better, not "scented" and don't have the revolting plastic topsheet. They're all pretty poorly designed though tbh. Reusables are disgusting.

Yep. No wonder, they are owned by P&G. In my opinion Asda ones are same quality and cost around 50p.

dudsville · 08/07/2022 16:50

Or was it "Natra Care"? Either way, there are some better brands out there, you poor thing.

BreadmanAndCake · 08/07/2022 16:51

Reusables are fantastic. The larger ones I use for day 1/2 and overnight would certainly work as maternity pads (bloom and Nora maxi and mighty sizes). Failing that, cheap Tesco own maternity towels have no scent or irritants.

Hugasauras · 08/07/2022 16:51

Natracare pads are super nice. I've used their maternity ones with both DC. Very fluffy and soft.

ThePumpkinPatch · 08/07/2022 16:52

Disposables never stick! I've tried Cheeky Pants reusable pads and whilst the wings clipped together which is great, I found the pad moves up & down. I keep having to shove my hand down my pants and pull it back, hoping nobody saw me!! 🤣
