To reduce the number of showers I have each week

Let's be honest here. During lockdown probably most of us that worked from home rolled out of bed to their laptop and started the work day (in pjs)

I believe my need for showers daily took a nose dive. Don't get me wrong I went old school and did a daily clean with a flannel and yes still brush my teeth twice a day. I was showering twice a week.

Now back into the swing of things, working face to face (twice a week) I find my routine has stayed the same and the need for daily showers has gone. Obviously if I go work out I will do but I'm talking daily no.

What's other people's experience? Has everyone resumed normal life or are there people out there like me who are now content doing a flannel wash instead of a daily shower????

I am waiting for the gross comments but honestly I don't feel worse for it and my water bill has dropped!

For me I find a shower every other day is fine in the winter. I wash my hair every 3 or 4 days. I will carry on with it this year in an effort to cut our water and fuel bills.

Daily showers in hot weather remain a must.

I shower about 3 times a week and wash old school the other days. I started in LD too. I wash my hair weekly, down from every two days. My skin has definitely thanked me for it. Smooth and hydrated. My hair is in great condition too. I know I don't smell. Even my extremely fastidious and straight talking DD, who thinks it's 'grim' too, has to reluctantly acknowledge that! I don't eat meat or processed foods, which reduces both sweat and odour, and rarely drink alcohol. If I do drink, I definitely have to shower, as i know that comes out of my pores and smells.

BoJoGoGo · 07/07/2022 19:26

I had to miss a few days recently because I had some operations and not showering wasn’t as bad as I though but then again I was just sitting around resting and not getting sweaty,
I don’t think I could ever miss a day out of choice.

It's so weird how the "1+ a day otherwise it's grim folk," are so adamant that they absolutely know how your body works and how anything else is wrong

Smelling other people, especially when you have to touch them, is pretty grim.

Swabbing someone’s skin and seeing brown appear on the once white swab is also grim. These could be well dressed, fully made up women as much as scruffy unkempt men, but they obviously aren’t clean.

Showering every other day will not make your skin that dirty and smelly

mackthepony · 07/07/2022 19:26

I hate the whole flannel wash thing.

I shower every other day and that's only because I have greaseball hair

Yes. But it all goes back to the fact that showering every other day isn't the cause of the uncleanliness. That's likely caused by not washing for considerably longer.

No-one gets THAT filthy living a average sedentary lifestyle and showering every other day.

I thought flannel washes were for the days when people only had a bath in the house? So one full bath a week and flannel washes in between. I agree with PP that flannel washes are a faff and just make a mess - showers are just much easier. What if you turned the shower off in between rinses?

They're not. I have a shower that reaches to the toilet. That's where I wash. Showers are a real chore for me

Babdoc · 07/07/2022 19:28

I couldn’t face the day without my soothing soak in a nice hot bath every morning. I have long Covid, and the heat relaxes my muscles while the steam helps my lungs and sinuses.
Even without the Covid, I feel far too sticky and grubby in the mornings to consider getting dressed without a bath first.

Why would anyone lie about showering daily on an anon forum? 🤔

People like about all sorts of things in anon forums. Take everything with a pinch of salt!

SweatyChamoisPad · 07/07/2022 19:30

I shower every day because I have to wash my hair daily. It’s very curly and if I don’t I look like the bastard child of CrystalTipps and Sideshow Bob.

camdenl · 07/07/2022 19:31

I feel like, do what’s best for you, but I hate being around people that stink. It’s not like I can turn my nose off. So many colleagues with awful breath or extreme BO, it genuinely does make work unbearable at times

saveforthat · 07/07/2022 19:31

People are different of course but I showered everyday in lockdown and continue to do so unless I am seriously ill and when I am ill the sign of recovery is I can't wait to shower. As someone said upthread why faff about with a flannel when you can get under a stream of lovely hot water. Those of you who don't shower everyday, do you poo every day? I shower in the morning after doing the business and would feel dirty if I couldn't do this.

Tabbouleh · 07/07/2022 19:20

The people who think other people don't shower daily and are lying are leaving out the many of us who come from a different cultural background or from hot countries. Where it is considered grim to not shower daily.

DH definitely smells if he doesn't shower daily and so does DS. They take the Tube.

Which is probably true. I'm sure your DH and DS smell 24 hrs after showering.

But not everyone else does.

GrazingSheep · 07/07/2022 19:32

Shower every day - 3 minutes.
Wash hair once a week - shower extends to 5 minutes.

I poo at different times of the day...

You literally poo at the same time every single day?
What would you do if for some reason you needed a poo at 2pm and you were at work?

Spodocomod0 · 07/07/2022 19:33

I shower three times a week ,have very dry unruly hair,so shampoo once aweek, flannel wash otherwise. I'm amazed at how many people think they are grim and sweaty if they don't shower everyday .maybe a diet problem?

I know. It's so gross washing their bits in the same sink as brushing their teeth. Takes a few minutes to have a clean shower, I would think it takes longer faffing around with a flannel.

itsmellslikepopcarn · 07/07/2022 19:34

Every other day for me, I very rarely sweat and have dry skin, so unless it’s boiling or I’ve been attacked by pollen it isn’t daily.

Westfacing · 07/07/2022 19:34

A quick shower is as quick as a wash in my experience.

I don't wash my bits in a sink and it takes me a lot longer and struggle showering.

Yes, they must be exceptionally smelly. But then MN is also the place where posters think people who eat garlic or spices daily smell too. There was a long thread to that effect...So I don't put much faith in MN's collective nose.

Im the same time every day,, get up, do a wee, have some water, go back, do a poo, have a shower.

Sundays365 · 07/07/2022 19:36

Showered every day, sometimes twice a day - before, during and after lockdown.

Takes a few minutes and I feel fresh. It’s up to you, though. If you don’t stink and you don’t need the wake-up or relaxing effect of showering, crack on.

Sheffieldissunny · 07/07/2022 19:37

I shower every other day now. Unless I feel I'm really sweaty

littlepeas · 07/07/2022 19:38

My dh can get away with a few days and not be smelly/greasy. No such luck for me - I could prob manage every other day and not be smelly but my hair would be an oil slick.
