To reduce the number of showers I have each week

Let's be honest here. During lockdown probably most of us that worked from home rolled out of bed to their laptop and started the work day (in pjs)

I believe my need for showers daily took a nose dive. Don't get me wrong I went old school and did a daily clean with a flannel and yes still brush my teeth twice a day. I was showering twice a week.

Now back into the swing of things, working face to face (twice a week) I find my routine has stayed the same and the need for daily showers has gone. Obviously if I go work out I will do but I'm talking daily no.

What's other people's experience? Has everyone resumed normal life or are there people out there like me who are now content doing a flannel wash instead of a daily shower????

I am waiting for the gross comments but honestly I don't feel worse for it and my water bill has dropped!

Can someone explain to me in detail how a strip wash or flannel wash actually works? Is it just poking a damp flannel at your crack? If you put soap on it, how do you get it all rinsed off again?

I shower twice a day but that said its a detachable shower so often just undercarriage etc.
Like some PPs I always wash after a poo. I'd feel really gross if I didn't.

Ok....

I fill the sink with warm water and stand nude in front of it. I use a very gentle cleaning product and create a foam in the sink.

Then I start broadly from bottom to top. Feet, legs back, tummy, armpits then nethers.

Fresh water in the sink and go again.

Rinsing the cloth between change of body parts.

Then I have a whole different routine for my face Smile

"the price of a 10-minute shower between 69p and £1.88".

metro.co.uk/2022/04/13/how-much-does-it-cost-to-take-a-shower-16445932/

So between 20p and 55p for a 3-minute shower.

So pennies then. why on earth would I cut back

girlfriend44 · 07/07/2022 20:37

Everyday and sometimes twice.

Craftybodger · 07/07/2022 20:39

Showers haven’t changed. I have to shower daily, fresh deodorant on clean pits each morning is a must, for me and those around me! But hair washing has reduced from every 2 or 3 days to every 7 to 8 days as I now twist my hair up and it’s longer than before.

Those energy bills are going to cut back on people showering?

Just one of my many attempts to cut the bills by changing habits @mumda , obviously not enough on its own! I’ll try anything as I’m really worried about how we will manage this winter when our monthly E&G bill will be more than we used to pay annually.

Shitscared123 · 07/07/2022 20:41

Never done a flannel wash in my life. I don’t think it’s necessary to shower daily, however, I personally couldn’t do it. Daily showers are a ritual before bed.

MsOllie · 07/07/2022 20:41

I shower most days as I exercise most days. Probably skip a day every 2 weeks when I don't exercise. No smell, my nose is capable of working out if I smell Grin
But when I shower, I shower. Soap first as a base clean on a flannel, legs, feet, the lot and then a body wash. Body scrub if I need it
Not one of the people who thinks suds running down your legs cleans your feet!

TowerRavenSeven · 07/07/2022 20:41

Daily shower at least every other day. I feel sticky otherwise!

onlythreenow · 07/07/2022 20:41

I used to sometimes have a shower every second day in the winter, now I shower every second day all year around. Honestly, for most people a daily shower is not necessary. I just love how some MNers can tell exactly how long ago a random person had a shower!! As for hair washing - I do it once a week, and I can assure you my hair does not smell.

Isaidnoalready · 07/07/2022 20:41

As ever it depends on your shower older showers cost more than newer ones I've had some showers last 12 months this one has lasted a couple of years the difference was that the old area had severe hard water those is mild hard water (its housing association I cannot do a thing about it)

TowerRavenSeven · 07/07/2022 20:42

*regular shower

Purpleavocado · 07/07/2022 20:47

I just love the feeling of being fresh and clean, and it only takes 5 minutes.

senmum7 · 07/07/2022 20:47

Totally the same here. I was a one shower a day minimum. Often 2 before covid. For 40 odd years. And I'm including hair washing in that as I used to have really greasy hair. Lockdown cured me. I now only wash hair 2-3 times a week and bath or shower when needed but not necessarily every single day.

onlythreenow · 07/07/2022 20:48

Incidentally, in real life I don't believe I have ever had a discussion with anyone about how often they shower. My friends could be showering five times a day or once a week, I wouldn't have a clue.

LetMeInYourWindow · 07/07/2022 19:02

It’s not that your need for daily showers has gone, it’s that you are accustomed to your own scent.

way back before we were aggressively advertised to, and sold the idea that we had to be squeaky clean at all times, we didn’t bathe so much and thought we were fine. That’s because everyone was the same. We are now very used to everyone smelling fresh and clean.

I work closely near people and, even in a mask, it really is noticeable who doesn’t have freshly washed hair and who doesn’t bathe as often as you’d hope. Sorry!

My husband doesn't notice when I've not showered, and he's a militant showerer. I'm sorry, I just don't believe you'd notice that I don't shower every day!

avocadotofu · 07/07/2022 20:52

Daily showers are definitely more my thing. But if it works for you go for it!

MN is not real life. It is far removed from real life. I use this site for entertainment.

ouch321 · 07/07/2022 21:01

Daily shower for sure. Why would you not want to be clean?
Especially in this hot weather.

Notanotherwindow · 07/07/2022 21:04

We don't have a shower so I have a bath 3 or 4 times a week and wash with a flannel on the days in between.

Thatswhyimacat · 07/07/2022 21:04

Flannel wash sounds like a massive faff to just be less clean. Jumping in the shower is so easy?

fudfootedfannybangle · 07/07/2022 21:07

I’m in the highlands. The environment is not known for being hot and sweaty. But I think a lot of people use shower gel rather than soap so no wonder they get stinky & slimy.

Goldencarp · 07/07/2022 21:07

I shower daily mostly because of the menopause and the constant sweating!

My undercarriage doesn't smell unless I've exercised excessively. If yours does you might need to see your GP.

HardRockOwl · 07/07/2022 21:08

Well I don't think you're disgusting but I wouldn't do it myself

Mind you, I am the Mumsnet cliche - I shower every morning and I have a bath - for relaxation purposes - very evening. Without fail. I also change my bedding twice a week and towels 3 times a week

So that suits me and it's how I like to live. It's what I like to feel fresh.

If a shower a couple of times a week suits you and you feel fresh, then who am I to argue with you?
